Let's hope the price cut comes with some worthwhile exclusives..
I really want the Vita it looks like a nice piece of kit, but so far it seems like all it has going for it are handheld ports of PS2 or PS3 games. Gravity Rush sounds cool though.

I'd like for someone to prove me wrong? Smilie I'll probably just wait for the price drop anyway but a good exclusive Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts would sell it to me.

Both Oddworld:Abes Oddysey and Exodus are currently half price on the store until Wednesday, or £1 each for plus members. Az already mentioned the remake, but that's next year and these 2 games are classics, well worth the asking price

A wild PS Quadruple appared!

I'm genuinly hyped, any new home console reveal gets me excited... That is, if this is actually about Playstation 4.

Same. Really can't wait.

Apparently, PS4 and next Xbox to go on sale this year and compete during holiday season.

Sony said we'd 'see the future' of PlayStation on February 20th, and it appears to be true: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the company will not only reveal the next PlayStation at the event, but actually put the new video game console on sale later this year. According to the publication's anonymous sources, both the next PlayStation and Microsoft's next game system will compete head to head going into the holiday season.

Though Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and others had originally telegraphed that the next PlayStation might not be ready as soon as the next Xbox, it appears to have been a feint. We may see what the so-called PlayStation Orbis has to offer in as few as three weeks.

Excited. Will only get one of the two this years, so both companies have to impress me.

Probably same.

Always stuck with PlayStation and Nintendo for me. Unlikely to ever change.

When I first went multiconsole I was very pro XBOX and despite still being multiconsole I have so say I much prefer PlayStation as things are now.. I acknowledge Microsoft's success with the 360 but when I look at the past few E3s it's not hard to see what Microsoft's angle with entertainment is, the next XBOX won't be a gaming machine but an entertainment machine, it's gonna be a bona fide gimmick box with tons of power (ironic really). It's.. gonna become closer and closer to a kind of PC that's more entertainment focused I think.

PS3 started slow and has become one of my favourite systems of Gen7 and my currently most used Gen7 console. I'm definitely looking forward to what Sony do next, but unless it launches with some game franchises I really adore (Kingdom Hearts 3 would sell it day 1 but what's the chance of that) I won't be in a hurry to buy what's likely to be a very expensive machine right away.

It really will be interesting to see what sort of big guns they launch with. Bit of Uncharted 4 would be nice. Expecting FFVersusXIII to be a PS4 title, too. Not this year, though.

More rumours and rumblings:

Development sources with working knowledge of both next generation consoles have told us that PlayStation 4 will be more powerful than the next Xbox, will ship with a redesigned controller and launch by the end of the year in Japan and the US. PlayStation 4's European launch will follow in early 2014.

Sony is set to reveal its next PlayStation on Wednesday February 20th at an event dubbed 'see the future'. Sony Computer Entertainment released a teaser video last night to announce the event. Below, our sources revealed what to expect from PlayStation 4.

The controller

Sources close to the hardware have revealed to us that PS4 will ship with a redesigned controller which is the same size as an existing DualShock but features a small touchpad in place of the existing Select, Start and PS buttons. The tech is based on Vita's rear touchpad, and is similarly responsive in use.

A new Share button on the controller will, when pressed, launch a new feature that will allow screenshots and video to be distributed online. The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet.

The launch

We're told that PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan and the US by Christmas, with a Euro rollout following in early 2014, the delay attributed to the complexities involved in European distribution. Alongside the console, Sony will also introduce a new, improved iteration of its PlayStation Eye peripheral, which remains compatible with the PlayStation Move controller. Move will be available at launch, but it's not clear yet whether it will be bundled with the hardware. Sony has already earned an enormous amount of goodwill among studios working with PS4 development hardware. Privately, Sony representatives have conceded that the company made a mistake in creating such esoteric architecture for PS3, and its strategy for PS4 gives developers more opportunities this time around, notably because the hardware is much more PC-like in its makeup than PS3.

We have confirmed with sources that recently leaked tech specs are accurate. Though Durango devkits offer 8GB of DDR3 RAM, compared to Orbis's 4GB, Sony's GDDR5 solution is capable of moving data at 176 gigabytes per second, which should eliminate the sort of bottlenecks that hampered PS3 game performance. Importantly, we've learned that Sony has told developers that it is pushing for the final PS4 RAM to match up to Microsoft's 8GB.

Both platforms are driven by eight-core AMD CPUs clocked at 1.6GHz, with Microsoft opting for a D3D11.x GPU from an unknown source and Sony utilising a more capable solution in AMD's 'R10XX' architecture, alongside the so-called 'Liverpool' system-on-chip.

It's clear Sony has designed a system that, on paper, outperforms Microsoft's next Xbox. One source familiar with both platforms tells us that in real terms Sony's console is "slightly more powerful" and "very simple to work with".

Ultimately, the performance differences between the two consoles will have as much bearing on multiplatform releases as the differences between PS3 and 360 - very little - but Sony will be expecting big-budget firstparty releases such as the PS4 Uncharted sequel to demonstrate its console's superiority.

Take as a grain of salt, etc.

But the screenshot and video sharing is something that has people so excited. Some were hoping the Wii U would do it. Hopefully, the PS4 can provide it.

If the releases are true, bit of a shame if Europe release is early '14. Could be a problem if 720 comes in Europe this year.

I hope that rumour is wrong, a worldwide launch is what I'm hoping for. Sony have the ability to make it happen, and it's in their best interests. If I have to wait till next year I could easily get Durango if it's out, the cost of either won't matter, they will cost around the same.

First come. first serve, although I'm betting on Sony right now, the power and PC-like development gives me hope. I hope Last Guardian is being reworked for PS4, that would be a huge incentive for me getting PS4 first.

Prototype PS4 Controller

I just saw that too, I wonder if it's legit or just some mockup that got flooded around the net a bit too much?
Either way I'm probably not alone in hoping that's not the final controller! I'm sure it's not. However if the touch screen is that size, I can't see it being all that practical.

We'll see soon!

What's up Cubed3, we haven't talked for a while.
I have come here with a problem.

What lies before me is an 'ol rare, 60 gig, fully backward compatible PS3. She's awesome... but she may be in trouble. She runs for five or ten minutes and then just shuts herself off. Beeps twice, shuts down, and then flashes her red light until I turn her off properly with the master switch. She does this even on the start up menu.
My question is this, what do I do?
Is this the dreaded Yellow Light of Death? Or just a bad power supply unit?
If it is just a bad power supply I'd love to replace it as that's relatively cheap. But if it is the YLoD... might as well wait for the Megaton on Wednesday, right?

Anybody's expertise would be much appreciated. She's been like this for months and I'm dying to play all the cool stuff that's coming out. *Cough* Last of Us *Cough*

Wall Street Journal Claims PS4 Streams PS3 Games Over Net

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323478004578306663577439962.html

The consoles final name may be Orbis, due to Japanese's bad luck superstition surrounding the number 4.

That's very interesting, I could see that happening, at least in Japan. Maybe it'll have a different name in western regions, but it'd be funny to see a PS home console without a number attached to it.. plus risky. "PS2" still has so so much brandpower attached to it.

Unrelated but a Vita price drop was announced for Japan, both models are getting a drop to ~$215.

Ok to all you Persona 4 fans, I have just finished playing through Persona 4 Golden on the Vita. What can I say? Wow. I am pretty glad that I bought a Vita just for P4G, it was worth every dollar. In to some of my thoughts on the game and the Vita in general...

Playstation Vita
This thing is an absolute beauty. The screen is gorgeousssssss and I wonder how have I been playing 3DS games on such a smaller and inferior screen haha. The unit is very comfortable to hold and the battery life isn't that bad either. The 2 joystick thingies are also very easy to use and provies and almost console like control on a portable device. Me likes. However the negatives for me would simply have to be the library of games. It's not that the device is lacking in quality titles, it's more so that there isn't really anything that I'm interested in. If anything I will probably spend more time just catching up on the PSP games i've missed out on. Hoping that more games catered to my taste are announced/released and that Bandao Namco translate those damn Tales games so I can play them.

Persona 4 Golden
This game is GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. Now I know why everybody raves about how good this game is, it really is. Being the first Persona game i've played in the series, it was quite a refreshing game to play. It differed from most traditional JRPGs that I have played where there is an emphasis on building social links with other characters (practically a dating sim really haha) and with a bit of your traditional dungeon crawling turned based action. I clocked in 85 hours of the game on my first play through and I didn't even get the  true ending (sad face). I'm now starting my new game+ file and pretty keen to get everything I missed out on in my first play through... definitely worth getting a Vita just for this game!

To those that have played P3 (particularly on the PSP), is it worth it? (probably a silly question haha). I am thinking of getting it from the PSN store to supplement my Persona cravings.

On a side note, does anyone know when P4 Arena is coming to PAL land? This game came out so long ago in Japan/US... it's ridiculous. Must play... more Persona...

Persona 3 Portable is in my opinion the definitive version of the game. It's very much worthwhile, even after playing 4. The Anime scenes and town exploration took a hit in the downport to the PSP, but both serve to make the game more streamlined and accessible, and the combat and equipment improvements inspired directly from Persona 4 itself make for a far better game. You'll lose the FES post-game scenario that the PS2 game has, but that is quite tedious to play anyway and you could just Youtube it. Smilie

Arena has yet to get a solid release date, though late March is what the facebook page is saying for now.

I'm glad that Vita has gotten a price drop in Japn, hopefully the same will happen over here in time.

( Edited 20.02.2013 23:41 by Linkyshinks )

My stream keeps slowing down like a mo-fo, on every site i am using, looks like the servers can't handle the demand!

STUPID SHARE BUTTON... WTFLUXX... SUCH A DUMB IDEA!

USER HAS BEEN BANNED ( (ZAPP) )

Same here, really awesome ideas so far though. I'm missing Kaz Hirai. :/

Gosh, I can't find any stream that's remotely smooth to watch even on low quality.

Edit: How did I post twice in a row? This topic is kinda messed up.
