I'm with you, as much as I am a Nintendo fan - competition is good, and lower prices even better. I remember the days when a game cost £60. Now you can get games for as cheap at £10!

I'm still not convinced we need handheld gaming. Never been a fan of it. However, I am sure that Nintendo are working on an improved 3DS - aka 3DS lite - with bigger screens, longer battery life and better picture quality/3D effect. (Known as the DS Phat phenomenon).

Plus at this rate.. microsoft looks to be losing alot of ground. That is probably why they are going down the kinect route.

Well from there on, as far as I know, the GameCube remained at that price in Europe until it was removed from the market by Nintendo.

Well it's about time Nintendo stopped overpricing their products. Look how impressive the Vita is compared to the 3DS, and then look at the prices. Sony might be selling the Vita at a loss, who knows, but they're really going for it, really trying to bring consumers in. The 3DS is selling shit too. Nintendo better pull their finger out.

That said though, I'm still not as big on handheld gaming. I'm more interested in what the Cafe can do. It's about time Nintendo gave us a proper good gaming console.

I don't think there's a way that Sony isn't selling the Vita at a loss. It seems like a big gamble to me but it might pay off for Sony. Definitely interested to see how things are going to go.

It's actually great news for 3DS owners such as myself as healthy competition is always good for us consumers. Nintendo will have to really step it up and show tons of new stuff, whether it's completely new or just actual stuff from games we already know are in development(Paper Mario, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart etc.). While I'm really curious what Nintendo is going to offer for the 3DS, it can't be denied that almost all my attention is on Skyward Sword and their next console. I'm SUPER excited!

Sony's conference wasn't so bad really, it was definitely better than Microsoft's. It still wasn't very exciting though.

Uncharted 3 looked great and the PSVita had some interesting gameplay ideas. The pricing was also a shock, because I was expecting it to be much more. The 3D stuff I wasn't really bothered about, but for those who are interested in it, I would imagine you'd be pleased with what they had.

I agree with SirLink too. Competition is healthy and hopefully this will push Nintendo to make the 3DS a better experience.

For the 3DS, I guess we'll have to wait and see. Maybe they were advising developers to region-lock at around launch similar to how almost all launch games use the 3D(Cubic Ninja is the only exception so far AFAIK). I'm sure we'll see more non 3D games that take advantage of that extra power gained in the near future. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.

Okay, did some research. PS3 games are completely region free. So if you bought a JP game, it would work on your EU console.

Xbox 360 consoles are region locked, so EU consoles will only play PAL games (EU, Aus, etc). Same applies to 3DS.

Region locking is optional on 360 so some releases aren't locked. I'm pretty sure the 3DS is completely locked.

Indeed, I know at least some JAP X360 shmups that do run on PAL consoles.
