As someone who has never played MK DS or Wii (still stuck with Double Dash ), was power sliding in Double Dash? I only know of some drifting there, is it that? Would appreciate if someone could enlighten me a little bit here.

Yeah, the 'snaking' we're talking about in MKDS was in Double Dash too, but it just wasn't as easily executable. When you power slide you hit left and right to get a mini turbo. Snaking is when you keep mini turboing along a straight part of road in quick succession, putting you well ahead. The shape you make gives a snake effect.
In MKWii (and MK GBA for that matter), you only needed to drift around a corner and turn into it to get your mini turbo.

Oh, so it was what I thought all along. That's really lame then if they didn't balance it out a little in MK 3DS. :/ I exclusively drift around corners in Double Dash to get that little boost which I thought was all it was intended for. Never even thought about doing that in a straight part in quick succession.
I've tried doing it in Double Dash, but it's much harder. I couldn't really do it; I think you have to be really quick. In MKDS, you still have to be quick, but it just comes off so much easier.
Once I learnt to snake, MK DS was ruined for me because I could win 80% of matches that way. All you needed was a high acceleration kart (such as the tank) and you could destroy the opposition. What was weird is that there were several shortcuts that you could only do via snaking; so it was encouraged in some ways.

This really gets me in the mood to play SF64 again. I seriously hope Nintendo do a brand new SF game on the system.
