I actually have more doubts now than I did before the conference started

My thoughts exactly.
They really didn't show anything different from last E3. Even from a third party perspective. Ninja Gaiden, Batman, Tekken, Assassins Creed etc etc were all mentioned, if not, shown in 2011. Then there's the fact that a lot of these games that they are showboating now will be old when it launches in 6 Months. Batman will be year old, Darksiders a good six months...you get my point.
So suddenly those 'Hardcore' gamers that they are trying to attract become practically non-existent as a very large wedge of them will have a 360 or a PS3 and can sit on that without having to fork out for a Wii U.

They still didn't announce the price of the Wii U...Yet another thing I am concerned about.

Some examples of how excited people on blogging sites/etc have been with it:

Many of these posts have hundreds, sometimes thousands of notes, likes, etc.
I don't see much disappointment, I'm seeing people sold on the system.

Can't wait, it looks amazing even off-screen

Hmm, what I don't get is why so many people are complaining about old 3rd party titles when there are new 3rd party games that haven't been released yet or are exclusive to the Wii U. We all know the 1st party support will be coming so whats the whining about exactly? I can't think of a home console that had a abundance of 1st party games at launch. Then again I am quite forgetfulSmilie

Anyway, I think alot of us tend to forget that we're the minority and we don't drive the sells of a console. Yes it would've been great to every Nintendo IP show up at E3, but at the same time the system hasn't been released yet so why expect so much? What this seems like to me is Nintendo is gunna let 3rd parties lead the way for wiiU and create that foundation to bring alot of the core audience back.

Yeah, Pikmin 3 looks excellent. I'm still curious how its going to control - in the conference they seemed to mention using the Wii U pad simultaneously with a Wii mote?

I don't see much disappointment, I'm seeing people sold on the system.

Well, for Nintendo's sake I hope so.

3rd parties lead the way

Third parties lead the way...with last year's games...

Wait so did AssCreed3, Rayman, darksiders2, aliens, and tekken tag 2 come out last year?

EDIT: Had to add rayman to that, It is an exclusive after all.

The connectors for the video output besides the HDMI are exactly the same as the Wii's, so if you have Wii Component cables and don't have a HDMI, you can use them for your Wii U.

What JTang said.

Rayman Legends is also new and potentially exclusive, ZombiU looks decent too.
And yeah, we know there are first party titles on the way, we just don't know what there are. What did the 3DS have? Remakes, what did the Wii have? TP, what did the Vita have? Well.. not much, besides PS3 games, and WiiU also does ports; so why is it being treated like it's a failure of a system when it's performing just as new consoles do?

Console launches are always pretty weak, WiiU's lineup looks kinda boss if you ask me and we haven't even seen much of it yet - the controller's features also look really awesome, it looks comfortable, it does absolutely everything.

Just watch the first half of the conference again, I won't deny the second half dragged on too much.

Every year I always wonder why I leave/take long breaks from C3 and gaming forums in general but stuff like E3 makes me remember- as fun as it all is it all quickly degrades to negativity and arguing.

I don't even know why I argue; every year without fail I buy these games and thoroughly enjoy them and will continue to do so. Smilie

It was a flippant comment meant to illustrate a point -- the Wii U third party titles don't really look to be providing anything unique or compelling. It's hard to really make a case for the Wii U on third party grounds when so many of the titles are indeed last year's games, or won't be giving you anything too different than you can get on the 360 or PS3 you already have. I'm not going to buy a Wii U to play Assassin's Creed 3. There's no reason to when I have a perfectly capable 360.

Not to be taken to heart as literally meaning there wasn't a single third party game that was going to be coming out this year for the Wii U simultaneously with the other systems. I definitely could have been clearer on that, but I'm a bit exhausted with the whole thing. And darn it I said I'd stop complaining. Smilie

That's actually a bit surprising. Having a bunch of different ports is bit costly, so it's nice of Nintendo to let you reuse your old cables. I expected it to be HDMI or RBG and that's it.

I don't see why people get so upset with debating anyhow. I enjoy making points, and I enjoy seeing other people's opinions. That's the whole point of a forum, right? The exchange of opinions? I think you're not doing it right if you're letting it effect your mood. Smilie

I see what you did there.Smilie

And apparently the battery life is very poor for the Game Pad. 3-5 Hours and 2.5 hours to charge...

Better come with a good length charging cable

I totally understood what you meant Jacob, but I had to come back at you with a response to that statement.Smilie

For me atleast I see it the opposite way. If ps360 are going to be getting the same new 3rd party games why not get a Wii U, where I can not only play the game in the same fashion as the ps360(WUPro) but I can also get a new experience that is exclusive to the Wii U(tablet) and theres still the yet to be announced Nintendo IPs to look forward to.

That's a tough one for Nintendo honestly. If you make the battery bigger, you make the pad heavier decreasing how comfortable it is for longer sessions.

If you make the battery smaller, and therefore the pad lighter and easier to hold...well then you can't play as long either.

I suppose in the end players will just have to buy battery packs to hot swap for long sessions. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either.

That's a good way to look at it too, and there's no questioning that its a victory for Nintendo that they're even getting those ports.

I just really wanted to see evidence of those first party titles we're supposed to be so pumped for, more than footage from Batman.

Yeah, my main thought is that they are not using a very high capacity battery. You get about the same time gameplay wise with the Vita and that has everything on board. It would be nice to see Nintendo increase this, or at least make sure the cable supplied is long enough.

Oh wow. That's a really short battery length time. It'll be fine for minigame type games, but when I play longer games like Zelda I put way more time into it. My Skyward Sword "sessions" were like 8 hours long haha.

Next E3 will be make or break for the Wii U as Nintendo will have to come out all guns blazing in answer to two supposed console announcements.
One can hope.

TGS should be pretty good too.

Yeah they'll definitely need something to combat PS4/Nextbox.
Still I thought that about Sony and MS' conferences this year and neither was particularly impressive games-wise either (Beyond looks cool though I guess)

EDIT: On battery life I'm gonna assume they'll make the cable long Smilie it is a beast of a controller with full TV output touchscreen so I'm not surprised I guess though it's a shame.

E3 as a whole was pretty meh this year. Which kind of makes sense given that this cycle is on its last legs.

Sony's did have some interesting stuff though:

+ Beyond
+ The Last of Us
+ God of War (if you're into that kind of thing, trash to me)

edit: Next year's will be intense though without a doubt. Here's hoping we see a Zelda HD that shocks us all.

( Edited 05.06.2012 23:18 by Jacob4000 )

Yeah, Microsoft's was piss poor, very similar to last year, relying on third parties to carry them through. Sony similar I guess. It's like the calm before the storm. At least Sony had some good new IP's which they were showing off as well as some older ones.

Anyone know whatever happened to this? Maybe I'm just tired, but I can't think of any that fit here.

Transfer downloaded Wii games to Wii U.

Fans who have purchased libraries of old games will not lose their downloaded game titles when they decide to upgrade to the new system, a decision in line with how Apple’s iTunes store operates regarding digital downloads of game apps. Moffitt said that there will be a bit of restructuring of how their login IDs/accounts work with the Wii U; he told us, “You will have an individual account based system. Each member of your family might have their own account.”

Each player will have saved gaming preferences, but it is unclear how Wii Virtual Console collections will be assigned to an account for ownership transfers on the Wii U eShop at this point. If this backwards compatibility continues through the next generation of systems, fans may never have to repurchase old games again. That may change if games are reintroduced in high definition (Wii, unlike its competitors, produced standard-definition video), but Nintendo has said nothing on that yet.

Happy days.

Uh oh. Not surprised, but still Smilie
http://kotaku.com/5916052/two-controllers-slows-down-your-wii-u-games

Bit of a shame but 30fps isn't really that bad.

Nintendo Network ID: LKR000               PSN: LKR000

Runner 2 for Wii U.

http://www.runner2.com/blog/2012/6/5/ok-you-got-us-runner2-is-coming-to-wii-u.html

A sequel to the award-winning and incredibly popular BIT.TRIP RUNNER, originally released on Nintendo's WiiWare Service, Runner2 boasts:

Retro Challenges playable on the Wii U Game Pad
Special chiptune guest star Disasterpeace
Almost 10 Playable Characters, including CommandgirlVideo, Unkle Dill, and Whetfahrt Cheesebörger
Fancy-Pants HD Graphics 10+
New Gameplay Abilities Achievements/trophies/leaderboards/whatever Nintendo's new thingie is Unlockable costumes
Difficulty modes and checkpoints
...and LOTS more to be revealed later!

The thing that scares me the most about the WiiU is that it'll underpowered for the next generation, perhaps even moreso than the Wii was for this gen. I'm afraid the WiiU has little more to offer than an hyped up Xbox 360. I expect that whatever Microsoft and Sony release, it'll blow the WiiU out of the water.

I really want to be wrong.

On a brighter note, I'm really happy to see that you'll be able transfer Wii VC games to your WiiU. I was always afraid those games would just be abandoned on my Wii.

I don't know about anyone else but the reason I'm being extra-flippant about Nintendo's show is because the Wii put a massive dent in my respect for the company. I'm just not convinced they care about the gamers they captivated ten years ago. From a business point of view, that's fine, but I'd agree with those who said this E3 did need to dazzle avid long-term followers. A HD Zelda, proper Mario or Metroid would have said - hey, we haven't forgotten about you, you are a priority. I definitely got the opposite impression. So even though those sort of titles are inevitable in the Wii U's life-time, the fact they're not first in the line says a lot. I am used to poor launches, lack of initial titles with pull-power. It's another thing to feel like the company just doesn't care about (or at least doesn't prioritize) these things properly.

The pretty poor battery life and halving the FPS with two game-pads is also pretty disappointing. At this point if I thought another year of work on the system would gear it up properly - I'd be all for it. To me, and I hate to be the first guy to say it, this already feels like a Dreamcast type scenario. This show would have been decent if it was last years. As others have said, we are six months away from launch. In a couple of years it's hard to see it competing with the new Sony/MS crop.

And I don't think the causal crowd (broad/ambiguous label I know) are going to be as mesmerized by the Wii U as Nintendo think. It's a tablet in a controller, it looks big and clunky and complex. It's the opposite of the magic wand that you wave in front of the tele. Furthermore, a big chunk of the stuff third-parties were doing with the game-pad could easily be done on Microsoft's silver screen thing (or whatever it's called) - on their aged, current-gen console.

At this point, my registered interest is pretty much zero. Word on a full-blown Mario or Zelda might have strung me along for another system cycle (like I was with the Wii) - not a chance on the basis of this E3. But hey, once a sucker, always a sucker. As long as nobody checks my post history all will be well whatever. Smilie

Any word on the specs? That was a big talking point heading into E3 but haven't read anything about that.
