the first final fantasy was so different from the other final fantasy games

FFXIII is alright, but you could definitely do better. It doesn't represent the series very well.
I've not played the game properly, but I've watched it being played a few times. The combat system seems to follow the same fast paced way of FFX-2, which I am a big fan of. Turn based battles like FFX were a little boring, however there was a strategy behind it.
I have not fully explored the Paradigm system, but that does seem to add a twist to the game, and from what I can tell they seem to pick up the sphere grid again. Not my favourite way, but it works.
My initial order of FF playing was IX(9) > VIII (8) > X(10) > FFVII(7). The problem there was that I went from good (at the time) graphics to pretty bad, this jaded the game for me and I actually never completed VII, possibly because of it. We won't talk about when I tried to play VI(6).
Because of this, I think it's a good idea that Nintendo and Square are making remakes of the Final Fantasy games for DS, and rather than making them bad ports (see: FF I + II for PSP), they are making them a lot nicer, visually.

I did enjoy FFXIII but, in my opinion, the battle system didn't hold a candle to FFX-2's. There are similarities but I always felt more involved in X-2's battles.
The Crystarium in XIII is a lot more linear than the sphere grid, this is good as it keeps the characters more unique and situational even in post gameplay whereas in FFX things end up degenerating into Quick Hit spam. It works the other way aswell though, I felt like my characers just hadn't reached full potential after I maxed out the crystarium.
I ended up doing all the work for my treasure hunter trophy only to find I had missed something along the way... I think I'm done with it for now.
I loved X-2s battle system. Fast-paced and was just a lot of fun. Especially Yuna's Trigger Happy ability. Then again, I love everything about X-2. I really want a FFX/X-2 HD collection for the PS3.
I didn't like how you could only control the leader in XIII. I like to control everyone and hate the AI sometimes.
The FFI and II ports on GBA were pretty bangin', they were on one cart and all.
I actually played the FF games pretty much in order, and until earlier this year I had never played VIII and X.
IX - I - II - IV - V - VI - III - VII - XII - VIII - X - XIII
That's the order I played them in
I only played VII for the first time about 2 years ago, and I really loved it. I'm not sure why, the graphics are terrible and it's aged pretty bad!
Maybe I'm just playing it as it was released 10 years ago? Idk.
VIII - IX - IV - V - VI - X - VII - I - II - XII - III - XIII
My order was a bit more messed up. I didn't think too much of FF7s graphics. After playing the 2D games and then FFX, it was nice to go back to a PS1 style FF complete with world map/pre-rendered backgrounds etc.

VIII - X - VII - XII - III - VII:CC - VIIirge - XIII
That's my order. Screwed up I know but still they were played and completed Genesis has to be my favourite character, so when I saw the secret ending to Dirge I kinda jizzed everywhere
I've yet to complete either Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus. With the secret ending to dirge, I wonder if Square are planning any more FF7 games? Seems silly to leave the series like that if it was for nothing.
Well I hope they do, Genesis is epic and in the video he looked even more so. There's no point in wasting it
I didn't include any of the spinoffs in my list 'cause I play too many of them.
But I've played all the FFCC games in order of release, I love the world and the races in it.
Also I fucking love Crisis Core. Loads of people thinks it ruins FFVII, but I think it makes it better.
Mainly because I don't like Aerith at all in FFVII, and in Crisis Core you feel a lot more sorry for her.
Plus Zack. Just... ;_____;
Lol I've never played Crystal Chronicles. It wasn't really my cup of tea Then again, I've always been more partial to coffee anyway.
Zack. Just immense.
Yeah, I'm really liking CC's story. Zack and Aerith got hardly any proper character development in FF7 (Zack had virtually none) so it's nice to see their personalities shine through and interact more. Even Cloud is a joy in this.

So it was relieving to see happy innocent niceguy Cloud in Crisis Core.
N'aaw he wuz liek a widdle puppy Phaha!
Sorry I won't do that again ^^
I haven't played too many FF games but what the hell, I can try right?
FFXIII> FFXII: Revenant Wings> FFTA> FFTA2> FFXII> FFIII
I've heard Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus were awesome, albeit from different fanbases. I'd play 7 if I had a PS1, but I don't...so yeah.
I haven't played FFXII, but I have played FFXII: Rev Wings, it's really fun.
FFTA is amazing though. Especially when you get Dual Wield and Double Cast.
Crisis Core is great. DoC is good, I didn't complete it though. I don't know why, too many games!
You can play FFVII on the PS2, I don't know how the PS3 works, it may use an emulator like the 360.
I actually played and nearly beat Revenant Wings before playing XII. Barely played XII in fact.
The graphics of VII don't seem as bad, especially when you play them on a PSP. The prerendered backgrounds help to create a great atmosphere, and the battle graphics are pretty good anyway.
I'm glad they made Crisis Core and it seems they almost put just as much effort into as the original FFVII itself. I actually like how they added new characters and the secret army of Deepground introduced in Dirge, and not make them seem out of place despite FFVII already being out there. I'm sure a remake a VII will probably add a fair few new things seen in these games though, just not to make it seem too odd.
Apparently Square will eventually continue the FF7 series again, just not for a while. They said it could be a couple of years before we hear of anything again. But this was a while ago now, so maybe it won't be too long before we see something new.
I agree X-2's battle system was great, but I've actually always been a big fan of X's. I really enjoy the strategic element you get from taking turns and planning ahead after seeing who can attack next. It also felt very quick too, which is a big plus.
That said, I thought XIII did an impressive job of creating fast paced and action packed battles, despite only controlling one character. I suppose it would have been harder to implement if you could control all three, but I still really enjoyed it.

All 3 of these games handheld = heavenly.
I got really stuck in Revenant Wings. I stopped playing XII for the same reason I stopped playing X, other games came along. I love RPGs but boy do they take a lot of time.
I got way further in XII than in did in X though. I love it~ <3
Also I heard DoC was pretty terrible. It looks pretty terrible too.
Dark shooting RPG in the FFVII world focused on an incredibly uninteresting cliché character? No thanks...
Sorry to Vincent fans, I just can't stand him. He's in FFVII to be the "ridiculously cool grimdark" secret character and not much else imo.

I meant using discs on for the PS3.
How much do the games cost on PSN?
I kind of liked Vincent, but I didn't use him in my squad and his Limit Break was balls.

They cost £8 usually. Not sure how much that is it dollars.
SuperLink, you can play PS1 games on any version of PS3. It's the PS2 games that don't work on the later models.

Probably because I had it on PSP anyway by the time I got my PS3.

I'm English, don't worry about the latter part.
I love Final Fantasy games, but for some reason I can't finish them.
Part of me says it's because the final stretch of bosses are tough, but in reality it might just be the fact that I don't want to end the game (and therefore make the feeling of happiness last forever).
I love the fact that FFXIV will be online ^^
