Has to be Japan then, surely. Guess it will be about 6 months from now then that we get it.
Anyone still playing FFXIII? D:

Doesn't seem to say. The video was a 6 second clip in Japanese, so a true official announcement has yet to be made. I'd wager it would be the Japan region, but who knows? Could be worldwide..?
Doubt it. So far they've been coming to western PSN like 6 months AFTER the Japanese release.
And I'm at Chapter 10 of FFXIII, still playing through
i've been grinding for the last 40 hours in chapter 10, i can finally beat a small mammoth creature. Might progress with the story soon almost reaching 999999 points
I did no grinding ^^; I did go from CH10 to 13 fight my way pass alot of really hard and close fights
im on the last boss but i gone back and doing some of the stones quests done all low and mid level ones just the high levels to do

I bearly grinded before I beat the story. Aren't you gonna be disappointed when you kinda fly through the final boss? :/ Also, reaching 999,999 points in what, attack power? Or just spare crystogen points?
For me now, I've 5-starred all the missions. I now have to work on mastering all roles, getting all equipment/acessories, and killing one of the strongest enemies in the game to get that platinum trophy.
So I got to Pulse earlier....OMGWTF!!! For a while I thought I felt I was a little overpowered, but now I realise I'm really not.
After reading about the Chapter 10 boss, I thought he'd be hard. But seraphic Ray didn't cause to much of an issue.

And yeah the amount of growth you get when you get to Pulse is huge, just do a few random battles that you can barely win and you'll be able to fight harder and harder battles. Quite awesome really.
For me, Chapter 9s boss just took a while, having to destroy the other parts first.
And Crystarium costs just rocket completely. Although on a characters main roles, you get more for the increased cost. And I guess you do earn more per battle

Yeh the crystogen points. I've maxed out the crystarium on each role for chapter 10, even the roles they aren't proficient in, so i'm set to move on now
@mage: That still begs the question, aren't you gonna be disappointed when it comes to fighting the final boss? :/ It sounds like you're gonna fly through the story parts of the game now with fully maxed characters.

Isn't that the point of final fantasy games?
In most cases in FF games, the final boss/bosses haven't been made with you having a max-powered party in mind. If you max your characters you'll destroy the final boss in moments with little difficulty. But I remember back in the day when I played FF7 at story's pace, and bearly grinded, and I kept getting whacked by the final bosses. Took me ages to finally beat all stages of the final boss in FF8 too. Perhaps that was just me being a young gamer though.
Perhaps it's different for some people, but I prefer to leave at least a bit of a challenge when it comes to getting through a game and I can safely say I would have been disappointed if I killed the final boss of FF13 straight away. Which is why it's harder to beat if you don't max your party. For me, the maxing out part comes for when you attempt to kill the secret/extra bosses/enemies in the games (the Weapons of FF7 and 8 or C'ieth mission monsters, etc).
Not criticizing how you want to play the game at all - just for me I would be disappointed at smashing the final boss with little effort because of a maxed party.

In FF8, all enemies scaled according to your level, meaning there was always going to be a challenge, no matter how much grinding you did
Yeah, I'm sure the majority of people found the final bosses of FF8 quite difficult their first go round.
So you can kinda consider the 'maxing out' of characters in FF8 as more about obtaining all the GFs and ultimate weapons to allow for the learning of more abilities and limit breaks which undoubtedly make you a lot stronger, as well as being able to then junction magic to more stats for increased defense, strength, speed, etc.

Well i don't really see the final boss of the story the real final boss in ff games. It's always the optional SUPER BOSS that i aim for, so grinding is mandatory

That's fair enough then XD
Where did you train to max up your crystarium?
Okay beat the story;
I found the best places to get CP are in the mines near the huge juggernaught. If you do laps of the mines you can get around 22,000 CP every 8 minutes or so. If not head to Siren park in eden and do laps of it. Takes about 15 minutes and you'll get around 66,000. Just pick what you prefer; three way fights in siren or extremely simple fights in the mines.
Just started up the Marks and 2,000CP off maxing Lightning's Commando Role, WOOOH!!!, just another 5 classes left and i'll be able to take on the A rank marks
FFIX is out on PSN in Japan from today. Still no date for North America :/
Edit: Final Fantasy in Itadaki Street Mobile is announced... with chibi Lightning! Japanese website here.
Probably never gonna see the light of day here, but worth posting all the same.

Oh can't wait for this looking really good
Scans!!!!!!!! ps oh fuck XD
Most of the discussion focused on three new screenshots. It will be a bit tough to follow most of this summary without seeing the screens for yourself, but here are some textual descriptions.
-1. A scene of main character Noctis standing on a cliff, looking out over a vast field, with a highway directly below, a desert clearing in the distance, and mountains in the far distance. The caption for this notes that you can walk as far as you can see.
-2. A scene of Noctis standing in front of a gas station. In the caption for this scene, the magazine notes that one of the themes of the game is a “road movie.”
-3. A scene of Noctis facing off against a giant creature in a city-like scene. The visuals here look extremely modern " you can see crosswalks and even bike lanes marked off on the road below. It looks like an in-game version of Tokyo, except for the giant beast.
The screens are all taken off real hardware, Nomura said. The game currently runs at the quality shown in the screens, said Nomura, and they’ll be improving the visuals even further.
Not only are the screens real time, but they represent the perspective from which you’ll play the game. The camera angle is for the most part what’s shown in the screens " from a third person view. They were originally considering switching to an overhead view when you moved into the outside world, but ended up keeping the the world as an open field in order to keep you close to the action.
Of course, actual screenshots will have menus and icons. According to Nomura, these bits were removed because they did not want to let details on the game out.
Nomura shared some details on a screen-by-screen basis.
Regarding the gasoline and field screen, Famitsu noted that the game’s sky color is finely detailed. Nomura said first that they’re using true physics calculations for the movement of the clouds. He also noted that it took the staff a while to determine the visual direction they would take with the game. They could do all sorts of different visual styles by changing such things as filters and sunlight color.
Regarding the field screenshot, Nomura said that the field is an “open field,” meaning you can walk through “nearly everything” shown in the field screenshot except for the mountains. He also said, “If you want to go to the end, it’s truly far.”
Regarding the city scene with the beast, Nomura pointed out that the beast is a military-use behemoth. It has a giant sword on its back.
The city scene is actually a battle screen. Normally, it would have a command menu and other information.
The menus and prompts aren’t all that’s missing, though. Noctis is shown fighting the behemoth by himself. In the actual game, you’ll fight as part of a party. The reason the party members aren’t shown in the screen is because Square Enix has yet to officially reveal the weapons and clothing for these characters.
Famitsu noted of the battle scene, the “Shinjuku cityscape is real.” The model for the area, said Nomura, is the surroundings of Square Enix’s Shinjuku office, right down to the bicycle markings on the street.
The three areas shown in the screenshots are all connected. The screen with the field and the screen with the gasoline stand are from the same location. The field extends out from the rear of the gas stand. These two areas are located immediately outside the city depicted in the battle screenshot.
It all looks like a pretty large area for what appears to be the game’s prologue location, Famitsu noted. No need to worry, though, as Nomura revealed that you’ll have access to a car. You can board and disembark your car whenever you like. Take your car out into the field area, and you’ll eventually approach the submerged area that was shown in past promotional trailers.
It looks like you’ll encounter monsters out on the field. Some will be roaming about, with Nomura citing an example of a behemoth walking around on a hill in the distance. In other instances, monsters will appear quickly.
In this week’s “Flying get” column, there was a bullet point about the game featuring both symbol and random encounters. I presume this is where these points come from. Nomura did not specially mention symbol and random encounters, though, so it may be a bit too hasty to picture an RPG-like system.
Asked if the field and battles will be seamless, meaning no loading or screen transitions, Nomura said that the battles will be for the most part seamless. When you move between large areas, and when there are event cut-ins, there may be some loading, although the staff is trying to make the game as seamless as possible.
The magazine closed off by asking Nomura when we can expect additional Versus XIII details. This is still a ways off, he said, but he added “We’re making preparations for a big announcement.”
"-
- All the screenshots in the interview are captured from the game running in real time.
- The movement of the clouds in the game are controlled by the physics engine in the game.
- The game employs an open field concept, so you can travel anywhere except into mountains.
- The encounter system is a mix of random and visible encounters? (Confusing point, the blog doesn’t seem clear either.)
- Battles are seamless. The only loading in the game will occur when moving between very large areas. They’re aiming for the ultimate in seamlessness.
- Objects along the paths of roads can be destroyed.
- Most people will not believe their eyes when they see the high quality of the battles in motion.
- The staff are highly motivated now.
- There will still be improvements and more polish on the visuals made, the visuals in the screens are the game running at the moment.

Ah yeah, I saw these shots yesterday. It's looking very good. Gives off an FF7 vibe.

From what I've seen so far, the game doesn't look like anything special though that's probably because they're taking an awfully long time to make it and also because they've shown very little past a couple of CG trailers.
I'm expecting something truly amazing with it taking this long to be completed.
They may even release a 360 version like with FF13.

hope not they have to cut the 50% of the game from any backtracking for missions eg FF13, its not like KH you are in a party they just dont want to show others yet

The game being watered down has nothing to do with the 360 port. The idea that the PS3 can run games that the 360 can't is just ridiculous.
FF13 would have been exactly the same as it is now had it remained a PS3 exclusive. The 360 version didn't change anything. Any cuts to the game would have always happened.
EDIT: Bascially, what SuperLink said.
For the 360 version of VersusXIII, they would simply have to switch disc whenever they wanted to travel back to a certain location. That would solve the problem with backtracking.
Also, Kingdom Hearts also has parties. Donald? Goofy? Same thing.
