THE NEWS: The E3 Wii games were actually running on a bunch of WIi demo kits tucked inside of a Gamecube.

Why the hell were the E3 games so graphically crappy? According to the Nsider message boards, the Wii's you saw were nothing but empty boxes with a light. People spotted multiple wires leading behind the consoles, into what appeared to be a black Nintendo Gamecube!
This has actually been confermed by nintendo, stating that ""The Wii hardware we exhibited at E3 2006 was made specifically for the E3 show and is not the final mass-production version. Some of this hardware was cased in Nintendo GameCube housing,"

So, there you have it. The graphics will improve. Those were not Wii guts. Those were not Wii graphics. Wii may be even more powerful than Xbox 360!

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the Wii's graphical capabilities, just because they weren't as good as the 360 or PS3 doesn't mean that they were shithouse. They were fine. It's great that the graphics will be better, but I would've had no qualms if they stayed the same. Come on MasterStyl, look at it realistically, we both know Wii won't be as graphically powerful as the 360Smilie

I thought they were fine as well... Then again if they're going to get better that's in no way a bad thing Smilie

OMG!!! ROFL. If that's what they can do on gc hardware...I am stunned. I was already content with the graphics, this should be interesting. Be prepared to see massive changes.

Brilliant. I was a bit skeptical about the graphics on Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The Metroid Prime series is well know for stunning graphics, I was worried Corruption was going against this a bit. Nice to know they will improve. Smilie

Surely Red Steel was done on the Wii hardware?

Yeah, I thought everyone knew this?

That's good then, I thought the majority of the games looked great already, but I wouldn't say no to some improvements.

I'm a little confused though, were all the Wii games running on the Gamecube, or was it just the hardware they were using was put in Gamecube casing?

Nintendo Confirms GameCube Housing for Wii at E3

By now you may have heard about the speculation surrounding Nintendo's Wii showing at E3. Some sneaky photojournalists managed to snap pictures showing GameCubes, not Wii consoles. We've got the scoop, straight from Nintendo, on just what exactly was shown at E3.

In the days following this year's E3, photos began to surface from the Nintendo media briefing and the Wii booth, suggesting that what gamers were actually playing were not Wii consoles, but in fact black GameCubes. "How could this be? Was Nintendo playing a trick on us?" people asked. Obviously, Nintendo isn't "tricking" anyone. GameDaily BIZ got the official word today from Nintendo of America on exactly what was being used to demonstrate the Wii games.

Nintendo confirmed that they did indeed use GameCube housing, but that the "guts" or internal architecture was certainly from the Wii. "The Wii hardware we exhibited at E3 2006 was made specifically for the E3 show and is not the final mass-production version. Some of this hardware was cased in Nintendo GameCube housing," the company explained.

So if the hardware that was used was not representative of the final mass-production version, does that mean that the Wii graphics we all witnessed could be improved by the time the console launches? "For some of the games that you've seen, the focus for them was not graphics at all, and so by design they were made to have a very broad appeal to them -- something that even your non-gamers can understand," Nintendo of America PR Manager Matt Atwood told us. "It isn't the final hardware, so at this point anything could happen, but this is very typical of what happens at E3; this is something I've seen with every other publisher and Nintendo in the past."

He continued, "So will the system specs change? The answer is they're still finalizing it. But as far as what you saw at E3 we think that was very indicative of the experience Wii will offer... It was Wii hardware."

So they dont wanna show the final product, does this mean they still have something to hide, something that they dont want those bastard sony preachers to copy ??

"Study this revelation, you nest of adders!"

It goes to show exactly how much the GameCube could intheory throw around graphically. very impressive right?

There's still no reason why the Wii's graphical ability shouldn't be that of that of the Xbox360 and/or PS3 in SD.

Iwata said it himself "The Revolution will be easy to port to", and I fully believe him, which means that the graphics are up to standard, minus HD, which lets face it, is basically an insignificant feature.

Errrm...no.
They're just still designing the architecture. It's easier for them to just customise some old Gamecubes for now.

I hope it means better graphics, and heres why:

The response Nintendo have had purely down to the controller is amazing. The PS2, Fifa buying public are actually impressed and interested in the Wii; far unlike the Cube or even DS before it.

Now if Nintendo can suddenly say "ah yes, but the graphics will be just as good as well"... they may suddenly find all these non-nintendo gamers actually want one.

I went into Game yesterday (one of three in sheffield!) to put my name down for a pre-order, and that one shop already had 15-20 names down.

We don't know that for sure.
I would seriously doubt that the graphical power will be exactly the same as it is now; its just a case of how much different.

It also means that Nintendo could still change their minds about the spec and increase/change it as they feel they need to.

They may see how expensive PS3 is, and decide that they can get more benefit out of increasing the price slightly to be close to 360 performance. That way there is no real reason to buy any console over the Wii.

Notice how they say "final experience". They didnt specify graphics, they imply they are talking about the controller, not what you see on screen. Considering the importance of the controller to Wii I wouldnt be at all surprised if graphics are the very last thing they work on.

Well if it's "very indicative of the final experience" Why bother creating the "Hollywood" GPU, when they could stick with the GC's 'flipper'....

Waste of money designing and making a new chip that's near enough exactly the same as the old.

Look, you're all, bar grumbler and Hazuki, getting carried away:

Smilie

Also a slight note. They aren't just pure GC's. They are "tweaked" GC's.

The Hardware is still being worked on...which is incredibly suprising...thats a HELL of a long time to be designing chips which apparently aren't that far off the XBOX..With this extra time they may of decided to change at the last minute..Effectively being created a year after the other consoles they COULD be quite close to say the XBOX360 as it would be cheaper with that now being a year old technology....................don't forget also that no HD, No hardrive etc will also bring the price down considerably..

Although I still think that the graphics won't be that far off what we saw.......but I think there is still a hardware Secret they are hiding...Smilie

Well it could be designing it to optimise it for features like Wiiconnect24 so maby it's lower power consumption, faster at booting from the sleep mode things like that.

I reckon the games are just at early stages, and/or have only recently got access to next gen dev equipment and have been developed on cube graphics until very recently. Some games have had time to have graphical improvements e.g. SMG, Excitetruck but the others haven't.

I'm sure things will be better later on with more polish, time and more concrete hardware, not hugely different though as Nintendo have said.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Nintendo made several statements concerning Wii graphics, one was about how in this day and age great graphics are already part of the package, but gameplay needed working on.
Another time they said, through the average TV, the graphics would be comparable to their competition. (who apparantly isnt really their competition.)
The last thing being the Wii specifications released say in black and white = Graphics chip, work in progress.
Nintendo wont release a machine when the graphics dont look the part, they never have and they never will.

i never thought that the games at E3 were on Wii hardware. When they finish the Wii and we see the proper Wii graphics! "Miyamoto said himself- We [Nintendo] could of easily created a HDconsole but we wanted to do soemthing different" Something along those lines! Nintey could make the graphics better on the Wii but as they said so many times they are not concentrating on the graphics but gameplay, and if they decide to make the graphics same as a X360 thats just gonna put the price way too high for the Wii and we[gamers]+Nintendo dont want that!!! If you know what i mean!!! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

If you know what i mean!!!

i do! i do! nobody wants a ps3 priced console!

its not that bad that they're in gamecubed considering the thing isn't supposed to come out until november! they really wouldn't have a full version yetSmilie

I doubt it will look nicer than the Xbox360...

First of all it ain't HD. Nuff said BUT it will still look good!!! Anyway, as long as the game is fun then no problems with the games having cube graphicsSmilie
