INSiGHT | MyM Magazine: Issue 50 (Review)

It's a significant milestone for MyM as it reaches its 50th issue! In honour of this landmark, the team has plenty of cake and coffee and a fitting article on the "50 Greatest Things About Geek Life." It rightfully says how the world is in the hands of the geeks at the moment, as these are truly our halcyon days, with what was once niche and specialist now becoming part of the mainstream.

The articles don't stop there, though, with some major features for gamers and otaku alike. Cliff Bleszinski, also known as Cliffy B, lead designer of Gears of War, walked away from the gaming industry in 2012 when he lost his smile, and now he's back with his own studio and its debut game. MyM got some one-on-one time with Cliffy to discuss his new project, an old school arena shooter entitled Lawbreakers.

For the otaku readers, there is something very special in this issue. The final film of the legendary Studio Ghibli has reached UK shores in the form of When Marnie Was There. It's impossible to explain the loss of Ghibli, since its films have been some of the greatest stories ever told and anyone who hasn't experienced the company needs to address that - immediately. MyM had an amazing opportunity with issue 50, a chance to speak with the Director of this swan song, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, talking about the themes and storytelling of this film, along with his thoughts on the end of Ghibli and its legacy.

There are some highly anticipated releases for movies, games, and anime this month! Sony brings long-awaited new iterations to some fan favourite franchises with Uncharted 4 and Ratchet & Clank while Nintendo has finally brought a new version of a classic, Star Fox Zero. More old faces returning are on the menu for anime this month, too, as Major Makoto returns in Ghost in the Shell The New Movie from Manga Entertainment, while MVM brings Love Live Season 1 amongst others. Then, of course, there's the aforementioned final Ghibli feature When Marnie Was There and the latest Marvel Studios blockbuster Captain America: Civil War.
