Yeah, according to some posters on NeoGAF, the site gambles on what stock it gets, gets people to preorder and then if the stock doesn't come, the customer doesn't get their product.

Do they still have to pay even if the product doesn't come in?

If not, I'll just keep my pre-order anyway. I pre-ordered it pretty quick so I might get it and that price is worth it! If not I'll just get it from another site v-v I guess.

Still that makes the whole pre-ordering multiple systems at once a lot more risky.. hmm. I hope the other sites drop real low.

Sorry for the double post (also as a comment on an article):

Things Nintendo need to sort out for the Wii U launch:
- VC playable on the Upad
- new VC games and fast... bring those GameCube classics over
- upscaling GameCube/Wii games to HD graphics
- make all games/apps from last year's E3 available (remember the drawing and board game?)
- TVii right out the box
- Nintendo's own TV shows available on TVii, preferably free (laugh at how bad Zelda was, watch the F-Zero anime, relive your childhood with the Super Mario Super Show...)
- Online multiplayer like it's normal
- Video chat as promised

More?

Slightly worrying...may cancel closer to the time and make my bank aware...

thanks for the tip Stu.

Well, this is one of the quotes I was reading.

But there are mixed views on the rest of the topic, so it just depends where they get their stock from.

Hmmm could be just one disgruntled customer but that is why i don't like buying from unknown retailers/web stores. Mind you, Play.com and Zavvi have been a bit dodgy to me in the past...

Not sure what to do!

The money has already been taken out of my bank account for the Expansys order... wtf.

I think that was mentioned in the link I posted above, I'm not going to pre-order from them due to that since I don't think they can guarantee the delivery. I'd see what cancelling your pre-order entails.

Well, I just emailed them about it. I better get my fucking money back, otherwise I won't be able to get a Wii U from anywhere else. :/

EDIT: They never even gave me confirmation.. which they state on their site that they would like the customer to confirm they still want the item, before they take the money out.

Good luck with that Liam.

Thanks Stu.

EDIT: You can no longer preorder the Deluxe pack from Expansys. Weird.

( Edited 17.09.2012 13:36 by Mush123 )

Cancelling my pre-order there right away, hoping they won't mess me around with it either.

Zavvi I know is trustworthy, clings to them for security.

EDIT: Successfully cancelled, I hope your problem can be sorted out Mush :c that's pretty dodgy.

I emailed them, got this as a response:

Dear SIr,

you have recently contacted us regarding your order.

I have checked with the accounting, Expansys does not charge your credit card until
the item is shipped.

There is a pre authorisation running with your 3DS secure system making sure the
funds are there but no money has been taken out.

Kind regards,

Anne-LAure
Customer service
eXpansys

So, hopefully this means the money should appear back in my account and that they were just checking I had enough to pay for the order.

Ah that makes sense I spose.
Still that's out of nowhere really! I think I'm gonna leave my order cancelled Smilie

Hmmm i'm going out on a limb trusting an unknown retailer, but at the same time i will monitor my credit card bill and if the same thing happens to me i will contact Natwest to block it!

Thanks for the heads up, we will see if it happens to me tomorrow!

I have yet to run to a local store to make a reservation. I'm pretty sure MediaMarkt will be the cheapest option, but they don't have it on their site yet...

I ran a few stores in the Netherlands and so far not too many are letting you make a reservation.

Bart Smit: you can make some sort of reservation (the kind where they notify you when you can preorder it). So far they've only increased the price... it's gone from €300/350 to €312/364. What? =/

Free Record Shop: it's not on the site yet, but if you go to a store they can tell you the current prices they want to use. It's €285/335. Smilie Oh, you can't make a reservation yet, but you should soon.

Intertoys: you can make a reservation on the site, but there's no info at all. They haven't even put both SKUs up.

Bol.com: it's not on the site yet.

BCC: not on the site. I went to the store but they didn't even know if they were going to sell it.

How did i miss the fact that the Zombii U package comes with the Black Pro controller...that alone is worth the extra dosh!

EDIT: Ignore me...i didn't realise that it didn't come with Nintendo Land...oh well nevermind!

Sonic and SEGA Racing Transformed Limited Edition confirmed for WiiU version, as well as four player offline and online split screen (WiiU version has five player) and some extra game modes exclusive to WiiU.

On a totally unrelated note, I just earlier pictured in my mind's eye, an HD Smash Bros game developed by Masahiro Sakurai and Katsuhiro Harada, actual good online play, and most likely free dlc.

Repeat after me.
free Smash Bros DLC.

Harada hates paid dlc especially for characters, so fingers crossed!
I'm going to be dreaming of this for the next 2/3 years.

Looking at Zavvi's cancellation policy is baffling me SuperLink, have you ever cancelled anything with them before?

I have had trouble with them (web store) in the past so i am skeptical about dealing with them again.

On a side note i still have my order with Expansys who haven't debited my account yet. I am keeping a close eye on this though. If i could get it at £212 i'd be laughing...even at £254 i'd be happy...that is if i get it at all!

I cancelled ZombiU Premium on there and that was done no problem, the cancellation isn't instant and needs to be processed, possibly in office hours or something. I think I may have cancelled in the past too.. but yeah other than stock shortages I've never had a problem with Zavvi, I use them relatively often and got a 3DS from there.

And when I cancelled my Expansys order btw, they sent me my order details one last time via email. Apparently the price they showed (£212) was without VAT, why they'd show that is beyond me! They put

"full price: £212
incl. VAT: £254"

ridiculous how they sneakily make you think you're paying less than you are! Still £254 is a good price, I admit I chickened out a bit and cancelled right away after hearing what happened with Mush and won't be ordering with them again. I hope other retailers battle it out for lower prices than Zavvi's current price though Smilie

I have just been reading some shocking things about Expansys, but if i don't receive my Wii U on the day or day after release i will be contacting Natwest to block the payment. I still think a similar price will come along from a more reputable retailer, but looking at the demand they may not need to stoop to having crazy deals. The supply will outstrip demand and it being so close to Christmas i can't imagine too many crazy deals...(famous last words)

Our member of the week

Sorry i can't translate the whole thing, it's far too long. On the topic of Wii U, at 3:22 :

Gameblog: ZombiU, Rayman Legends... You're betting on Wii U, but a lot of gamers have their doubts...

Michel Ancel: Actually, Nintendo is in a slightly delicate situation, which is that they HAVE to manage to explain something that must be played to be understood.

It's like trying to cook something new, a new recipe. There's no point in trying to talk about it for long. After a while, you need to taste it, otherwise it doesn't make sense.

This was true with Wii, and it's even more true with Wii U. With the Wii, it was like "You move your arm, you're playing Tennis. This looks fun." But here, we're actually facing a rather different concept.

Because I think... and it's not easy to perceive from the outset... they went for an even more "gamer oriented" concept, in a way.

This is "let's give the gamer even more tools. Let's give the games more tools. Let's add more, but let's not remove any either".

So rather than stripping the gameplay like they did with Wii, they went for adding more, which means we end up with something that's a monument in the history of video games in terms of potential complexity.

So we end up with two levels of complexity, which is you can use the touch screen, which is easy enough to understand [implied: "for casuals", which is what he was talking about at the beginning of the interview], or ypu can use the more "gamer" oriented controls with the joysticks and buttons, which is the most used setup these days.

OR, you can combine both, which is something else entirely! They're now headed in a direction which is hard for us developers to understand at first, because we get the impression of seeing two radically different and opposite worlds (play styles) being reunited.

And it seems that this problem is what makes it worthwhile, which is that you can play in various ways. It's a very open system. We got to start playing around with that concept on Rayman Legends, by saying "Now you can modify the play field" and Player 1, who's holding the gamepad, will have the ability to completely transform the play field...

... either in a good way or in a bad way, which is what makes in intersting because then the other players (playing with the Wii remotes) will start yelling at each other like "Why did you do that ??", etc.

It's exactly as if you had a level designer modifying the level AS you are playing it. We went very far into that concept with Rayman Legends, since you can completely change the game world "in live" [gameplay shows how you can tilt the gameworld with the gamepad using the gyro], you can dig through the walls etc... we tried to go as far as possible with that idea.

This is stuff that's going to be shown soon, watch out, this is exclusive info I just revealed, I'm gonna get my ass kicked *laughs*

So yeah, we went as much as possible into the fun of letting the gamer with the touch screen interface modify the play field at will, and beyond that, this is a collaboration with the players using the more classic controls.

This is the so-called asymetric gameplay, which, frankly, must be played to be understood.

Other interesting bits :

He said that Rayman Origins wasn't supposed to get a sequel. The Wii U came onto the scene, and they went "Now there's something to be done on this with Rayman"

He also seems to say that the resolution of the touch screen is 800x480, but he doesn't seem to be sure himself (but this seems plausible).

On the topic 2 of Beyond Good & Evil 2, what he wants to do is a very open game world without clear boundaries, where you can go wherever you want, and this clearly can't be done on current gen. He says he's not sure the Wii U is next gen, because it doesn't seem to follow the natural evolution of the other contenders (as in "it doesn't implement what is expected from next-gen consoles", though he didn't say what that is). However he says the Wii U is quite powerful, and what it does is still pretty impressive (especially the ability to stream gameplay to the gamepad). But in the current situation, he doesn't have quite the necessary expertise yet to determine whether what he wants to do with BGE2 would be possible on WiiU.

Near the end, he's poking fun at Sony for tricking developers into thinking that with their consoles, they wouldn't have any limit and they could do stuff like in Hollywood movies, first with the emotion engine in the PS2, and then with the PS3, but at the end of the day, you need to realise that this is not the case. Games like Uncharted sure are impressive, but they're far too scenarised to his taste and confined game worlds... whereas with BGE2, he wants to make something on a totally different level of freedom, where the player can really shape his own story.

Cubed3 Limited Staff :: Review and Feature Writer

Thanks for that.

edit:

I spoke to someone at HMV Oxford Street, apparently pre-orders will commence on Monday and will cost £10.

Expect Nintendo UK's launch event to be held there, news on that will be forthcoming next week also.
