The complaint isn't about The display on the WiiU pad. What I am saying is, if I buy the WiiU, can I set it up without the need for a TV?

It'll depend on how the developer wants to use the controller. A game such as the Shield Pose demo Nintendo showed at E3 2011 used both the TV screen and controller.

I reckon all of it's settings will have simple touch controls, but it's unlikely a TV won't be required for the initial set-up.

I think most games and apps will be designed to work independent of a HDTV, but some features may require one.

Diablo III on WiiU?

"It's not just going to be a simple port if we do a console version - if we are shipping a console version, I should say, as we are exploring it actually right now - we want to make it feel native to the console, so there's a lot of decisions to be made and just a lot of thought and effort that goes into that." - Lead technical artist Julian Love

2 Core, 5 casual - Ubisoft:
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-05-15-ubisoft-earnings-call-highlights-next-gen-will-be-very-viable-and-profitable

Coming from a GamesIndustry report...

Part of Ubisoft's success is expected to come from Nintendo's Wii U, launching at the end of this year. Ubisoft is a very strong supporter and is quite bullish on Wii U. The company will have five casual titles and two core titles. Guillemot pointed to the Avengers game slated for Wii U (and Kinect) as a title that should do very well with the casual market.

Eminem? Really? IMO, he's really overrated as a rapper, and idk if he's the right type of person to promote games.

I get that the game is gonna be "hardcore", and they picked a "hardcore" rapper, but I'm not feeling it.

It'd be as bad as seeing Wii Music in action during their E3 2008 conference, if the rumour turns out true.

Hope it is. Love Eminem.

Coming from Peter Molyneux...

"Nintendo's slightly lack lustre Wii U is going to have to blow us away with better specs and great 1st party line up."

( Edited 16.05.2012 20:27 by Linkyshinks )

Interesting:

Apparently Epic has seen the specs of the PS4 and next Xbox and is "actively lobbying" for them to be more powerful.

So they expect MS/Sony to invest in more expensive machines, just so it can run UE4 (better)?
That probably means that MS/Sony aren't going for another big technological jump, but are rather looking at more efficient and profitable hardware.
Which means the gap between Nintendo and them might be smaller than expected. Smilie

Epic, is a fucking stupid engine developer. -_- why don't they make a friggin engine that pushes current tech, instead of demanding the manufacturer of a console, to put more money into a product.

WiiU had better be good...

So they can sell more engines(there's only so many developers), and so they can have a different enough engine to justify calling it a new engine, it's not just a power increase, but it'll use new tech that the PS360 can't use, and they can't even run the UE3 on full anyway.

The lasts quote on the "FACT" says Wii U and Wii-2, isn't that a bit stupid?

Well it's a fact that it was stated on a Linkedin profile - "WiiU and Wii2"

That guy seems very enthusiastic about the Wii U and its controller. I think it's almost certain I'll pick this up with my Wii U. Smilie

More rumours, on the WiiU OS this time :

Cubed3 Limited Staff :: Review and Feature Writer

The thing about that rumour, and that it comes from Ideaman makes me have it's doubts, is that unless it turned out to be very PC like, why the heck would they need a 512MB OS? The PS3's is the biggest console OS so far and that's only 96MB.

I dunno, I wouldn't usually put much stock in what some anonymous guy on the internet says, but Nintendo's actions regarding the Wii U strikes me as a little odd considering their conservative nature.

Mainly, the UPad itself. Why reveal it a year and a half early and give your competitors plenty of time to rip off the headlining feature of your next machine? Unless that's exactly what Nintendo want them to do, and there is another feature of the machine that will sell it instead, one that has been kept under wraps. That's why I'm leaning towards some kind of strong OS, as for any kind of input device the Devs would have had to know long before E3, and leaks towards Sony and Microsoft would be highly risky.

Two and a bit weeks to go anyway.

Some of you have probably seen this crazy-ass rumour.

Star Fox - Metroid: Fusion Saga

http://mynintendonews.com/2012/05/19/retros-new-game-to-be-star-fox-metroid-fusion-saga/

I want FPS Metroid. But I also want Star Fox. Let's combine them. Sorted!

As much as it sounds dumb as hell and never going to happen, part of me would love to see it.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Smilie I really can't wait to see how the controller is used in the game. The example he gave of the motion tracker sounded great, I was actually thinking about that when I first saw the motion tracker in gameplay videos.

Man I want a 2D Metroid (really badly)

Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

That video proves that the Wii U is more powerful than the PS360, and that's what Gearbox has been saying for a while. So why do people believe anonymous sources over real developers again?

Also, Starfox x Metroid would be terrible, they both have different genre's in terms of story (Metroid's serious, where as Star Fox is more Comedic).

I feel like I haven't posted or followed Nintendo news in weeks -- all this crazy stuff going on! Star-Troid could actually be pretty cool, but I worry about what Star Fox's light tone might do to the more serious nature of Metroid.

I'm intrigued by the possibility but I think I would rather have Retro making a new IP than a mash-up.

Mainly, the UPad itself. Why reveal it a year and a half early and give your competitors plenty of time to rip off the headlining feature of your next machine?

That's an interesting point. We'll just have to see at E3. There were rumors of MS looking at making a similar controller after Nintendo's reveal. It seems like the logical way forward, honestly. I worry for Nintendo if others copy them immediately this generation, though.

You're far too concerned with this man. It might be close to the same, it might be marginally stronger. It's not going to be a huge leap over the current gen. Get over it man. Smilie
