Pretty much everything Pachter says is false. Especially when it comes to Nintendo. Since he says the same garbage every time, I just learned to ignore him. Stulaw's right, he's just a troll.

He's still at it:

The following comes from Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, as posted on NeoGAF...

The Wii U comment was in response to a question about the potential for the Wii U.

I believe (and please feel free to disagree) that a large portion of the Wii audience comprised casual gamers--those who bought one or two games a year the first two years, then put the Wii aside--and that those casual gamers moved on to another platform. The "other" platform may have been Facebook games, smart phone games, tablet games, or one of the other consoles, but once they moved on, they are not likely to come back.

At the same time, I believe (again, please feel free to disagree) that the growth of smart phones and tablets has attracted many potential dedicated handheld game customers, and these people also are unlikely to come back to either 3DS or PS Vita.

Summing this up, I think the addressable market for the Wii U is around half of the market for the Wii, and I think Microsoft and Sony will compete for a portion of that market if the Wii U is priced too high. I think that the dedicated handheld market is permanently impacted by smart phones and tablets, and think that Nintendo's addressable market is probably also half of its former market.

Nintendo is in disarray because they waited too long to launch the Wii U. I know that this sounds like (and is) sour grapes because they didn't launch the Wii HD in 2009 or 2010 as I "predicted". They should have, and because they didn't, the decline in Wii and DS hardware and software sales drove them into generating LOSSES. For those of you who aren't financial analysts, losses mean that the company is worth less than it was before. Nintendo stock has dropped by over 80% in the last few years, and the market has appreciated over the same period. I'm paid to advise investors, and none have made a profit owning Nintendo stock. I don't think that many will make a profit over the next few years, because I don't think Nintendo's strategy will return them to profitability.

If the context above infuriates you, go back to school and pay attention, then read it again ;-Smilie

“I think Nintendo's in disarray. I think the idea that we don't know the price point yet, but we do know what the console is, is just sad. I think they've completely blown that. It's gonna launch at $249; because it has to. They're dead if they launch at $259, I think they're toast then. I think they're toast anyway. I think the Xbox 360 with Kinect will be priced below that by the time they launch.” - Michael Pachter

In other words, he's a MS fanboy who's using "I do this so I know more than you" to justify his argument.

He's the main reason why I stopped watching Bonus Round on GT.

That nobody still spouting rubbish I see. Ah, to be an analyst, make up rubbish all day and get paid for it. Smilie

Why this guy is still on GT is beyond me... He's a complete joke.

EDIT : btw, on the Wii U news front, Katsuhiro Harada came out to comment on the status of Tekken for Wii U.

He reassured that the delay between the console and the controller, when playing the game on the controller screen, is inferior to a frame (1/60 of a second), ensuring that even for a fighting game where fast response of controls is vital, playing on the controller won't be an issue.

It's getting worse.

“Because I didn't predict that they would launch a Wii HD. I said quite clearly on multiple occasions that 'if they were concerned about loss of market share for the Wii to HD devices, they should launch a Wii HD', and I said that I thought they were rational business people interested in making a profit, so it was likely that they 'would' do what they 'should' do. My mistake was in predicting that they would behave as rational business people and avoid generating losses. They acted too late, the Wii/DS bubbles burst, and they started generating losses. In other words, I don't think they behaved rationally, as I think they believed that the Wii bubble would last, and that the DS would continue to sell well and fund the development of the next generation console in 2012, when they were ready to release it. Iwata's comments at GDC 2011 show that he didn't accept cannibalization of handhelds by smart phones, even at that late date.” Pachter added, “Somebody asked about the impact of the Yen's appreciation, which contributed around 35 - 40% of the decline in sales, but certainly not 100%.” - Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter

“Any of you are welcome to apply for my job, but I suggest you stay in school as long as possible and pay attention before you apply ;-Smilie

Wow, so not only does he blame Nintendo for not 'behaving as rational business people' when talking about his Wii HD prediction that didn't come true but now he also starts being arrogant, as if he with his laughable 'predictions' is so superior to everybody else.

He must be trolling...I really can't possibly comprehend his behaviour otherwise.

Dear Michael Pachter,
I hope you die a long and painful death.
I also hope you read this comment. Smilie

honestly this guy comes across as a complete twat... bet he looks like 1 to

Yeah, I've read all of his NeoGaf comments and that was one of them. There's some people that think his right, and totally ignore what was wrong with his post. Then there are others that find every single contradiction he makes, i.e the fact that he states he never made a Prediction about the "Wii HD" when that's all his done since the end of 2008.

Don't worry about Pachter when it comes to WiiU, seriously how do you get a job like his? I'd love a job like his just paid to say random things.

It's official, Warren Spector will present his new project on the morning of March 27th. There's talk of the project being Epic Mickey 2, a game which is expected to arrive on all formats including WiiU, this time around.

Yep, I heard about this. It looks better than the previous.. 4 Assassin's Creed games. I've only played AC1-AC Brotherhood and I couldn't get into Brotherhood much because it just felt like AC2. I loved AC2 though. Smilie

AC3 certainly looks a lot more promising to me, a nice change of setting/scenery. Hopefully the time period change means new mechanics and new weapons.

I just read the specs and still no optical port? why Nintendo? Why can't you fully enter the 21st century? The PS2 had an optical port for audio, 6 channel PCM is good for some but not the correct solution for surround sound for me.

I will wait and see the games before i get on board again. Disappoint.

@Simes, they might have changed the stuff on the system by now, so you never know, I mean hopefully they're using something beyond Dolby Pro Logic II.

Now Medal of Honor has been confirmed. (sort of)

Thanks Stulaw i hope so but i won't hold my breath on that, i've seen the back of the WiiU and only saw HDMI and the older component cable slots Smilie
Dolby Pro Logic is awful but kinda a good substitute for people who's sound systems aint up to snuff. So I see why they still use it.

I just want my HD Mario and Zelda and I won't need any other games on WiiU lol.

If they have a new F-Zero game with 30 player online, you probably won't see me on here for a couple of years.

I've been wishing for a 30-player online F-Zero for years Smilie. Make it happen Nintendo ! (and perhaps Sega again ? GX was great !)

So have I, I just bought Wipeout 2048 however so I'm all set.

Actually it's you living in the past, most modern surround sound systems have HDMI connections these days Smilie

But I share your pain, my decoder only optical connections they could still add an optical port to the AV cable kind of like how the 360 does it, hopfully anyway.

HDMI doesn't allow you to connect to common external sources for audio is what he meant. Having an optical audio out allows you to use 5.1 and 7.1 systems. Therefore, my 5.1 headset is useless with the system. Optical Audio out is standard on most newer devices, and every new PC motherboard. To omit it seems like a huge oversight.
