It's quite the contrary for me. I've never been this "meh" about a Sonic release in my whole life. Which is funny considering what it is (or, what it should be... whether it turns out to be that is a different story)

I think being excited for Black Knight and then playing it was the last straw, I wonder if I can ever be excited for a Sonic game again.

I'm not really bothered about it...I used to be a massive fan, but Sonic Heroes and Secret Rings killed it for me, and what I've played of Unleashed is meh. I loved the original games as a kid, but I don't find them fun to play anymore. And I don't like the idea of this being for download, I'd rather have a full retail game. I probably won't even bother buying this.

Well that didn't take long...

The game is Dimps developed, with stage design from the S3&K guy.
As you might have guessed, the fanbase is throwing a complete shitstorm over this. If the guy's words are to be believed, this is simply Sonic Advance 4 with no boost, and Sonic Rush physics, not Sonic 4 at all.

So yeah; while the game could potentially still be brilliant, those hoping for classic gameplay are not going to get it. Them's the breaks.

Stage 2 of the Sonic Cycle anyone?

I think that it is good that Dimps have a role in it because they did a really good job on the 360 version of Unleashed. Plus is Sonic Team even in the making of the game or is it just Dimps?

Dimps didn't touch the 360 version of Unleashed. They only worked on the Wii version.

And yeah Sonic Team are working on it aswell, but only design and story and stuff. The game mechanics are all Dimps, hence the likeness to Advance and Rush.

Ah. I got mixed up because I have both versions of the game. I hope it is not like Rush because I did not like the fact that you could speed boost. If it is going to be like the old Sonic games then that would be cool. Becuase in Sonic Advance 2 there was no button to do the speed boost it just happened when you got enough momentom or went through a ramp.

There is no boost in Sonic 4.

Supposedly it's the "Hold right to win" and "crappy jump/spin dash" that makes it like Advance and Rush.

I hope we don't see to many levels that have the same design as the older Sonic games. I would like to see a whole new set of stages.

I'm kind of disappointed from what I see.

I think they legit made a Sonic 4 and just saved it for some reason. And now they're bringing it back - and adding some nice visuals.

I like the fact that its going back to the great older style of Sonic games, but I would like it to be better than those as well. I'm getting flashbacks from Sonic 3 already.

Sonic 3 was one of the best in the older series. Plus Sonic3+Knuckles was better because it was the full game. I don't think this will be as good as Sonic 3 or Sonic 2, but it could be an improvement on other older Sonic games. Plus it is the sequal to S3+K.

It's worth noting that the game might not actually be 3D at all, the "models" are just pre-rendered sprites, like a very high quality version of Sonic 3D or Sonic Blast. So if anyone was thinking the "models" are to blame for the lame physics, you may be wrong.

The stages are all new, however if this guy it to be believed they have too many similarities to older stages, specifically from Sonic Advance 2.

I was not too keen on the stages from Sonic Advance 2 so if there are simularties from that game I will not be happy. Sonic Advance 1 stages were better I thought.

New bits of info revealed! Will post more as I find it.
My comments in bold.

-What about Tails and Knuckles you ask? "Fans will be very pleased with the cast in episode 2."
Excellent
-Episode 1 is a prologue.
Awesome
-Moves include: Spin Dash, Rolling Attack, homing attack and a new move yet unknown.
-About homing attack: "I wanted the user to enjoy an easy-to-play feeling by the attack sequence that this [homing attack] allows, and find the fun routes in the air."
Using homing attack to cross bottomless pits? Yay. :/
-Classic special stages make a return.
-Other screenshot shows Sonic smash though a wall that becomes a bunch of checkered bricks.
-Another screenshot shows Sonic grabbing a handrail which goes across a wire. (Very Advance)XP
-No floaty LBP physics. Classic Sonic Gameplay, classic Sonic speed. Says Izuka.
We'll fucking see about that
-Not 3-D, but all CG pre-render.
Nice, like Donkey Kong Country, Sonic 3D and Blast then, but very high quality
-Gamers will get classic "try again" ending if not successful at getting all emeralds. If you get all emeralds, you get cliffhanger ending for episode 2.
Nice
-"If Sonic 4's return to form (there they go again. ) is the Sonic experience you have been waiting 16 years for, then we strongly encourage you to try this."
Again, we'll see

Apparently ONM and Nintendo Power are gonna have new stuff in their mags too, so I'll post more as I find more.

EDIT: Oh and while I'm at it, Super Sonic was accidentally confirmed as being fully playable by an achievement list that was leaked a few days ago. Achievement List:

The Story Begins
Clear SPLASH HILL ZONE, ACT 1. (5)

Crush Dr. Eggman
Defeat a boss for the first time. (5)

The First Chaos Emerald
Acquire a Chaos Emerald. (5)

Enemy Hunter
Defeat 1,000 enemies. (10)

Golden Flash
Clear all Acts as Super Sonic. (10)

All Stages Cleared!
Defeat the final boss and view the ending. (10)

Contender
Upload your recorded scores and clear times for all stages. (10)

Ring Collector
Collect all the Rings in ‘Special Stage 1′ and Clear the stage. (15)

Immortal
Build up 99 or more extra lives. (25)

Super Sonic Genesis
Acquire all seven Chaos Emeralds. (30)

Speed’s My Game
Clear SPLASH HILL ZONE ACT 1 in less than a minute. (35)

Untouchable
Clear the E.G.G. STATION ZONE without taking any damage. (40)

How these will transfer/lock-on with the other Episodes I dunno. Is this list for all episodes combined? Or is it just for Episode 1 alone? If you unlock Super Sonic in Episode 1 will there be more special stages in Episode 2 or will they be useless? We'll have to see.

Bump!

New info from Nintendo Power!

Some more info…

While Sonic 4 will have shields, Episode 1 will only include the one hit shield. Just enough to help get your rings to the end of the stage.

Izuka says the reason they went episodic is that the game is too big to smaller hard drives (Wii and iPhone likely?) to fit in all at once and he didn’t see players paying $60 for a 2-D Sonic game on disc. (Hellllooo. New Super Mario Bros Wii anyone?!!)

Smilie Seems like SEGA can be (far) smarter than Nintendo sometimes. Also from the sounds of things Sonic 4 is going to be multiple times the length of previous Sonic games. Something Mario just can't seem to do, but having shorter games than ones released 20 years ago is fine I guess.

Lyra's respect for SEGA increased!
Lyra's respect for Nintendo dropped...

Gee, I sure hope Nintendo Power don't see me posting this.

Basically momentum based gameplay and platforming is confirmed to return, the cast will probably increase in later episodes, but we don't know if this means more playable characters. There are only 4 zones, and 3 acts per zone with a boss act on the end, like Sonic Advance 3.

Not that anyone cares.

Have to say I agree with that guy who said he can't see players paying 60 USA dollars for a sonic game on disc.

Nononononono he said a 2D Sonic game on a disc.
He's basically selling a short 2D game at a reasonable price, which is pretty unheard of to Nintendo I'm sure.

I have to share this, though it may seem nasty. I haven't been on C3 that much recently, and just read over this thread. We all sound like the most boring, pathetic nerds! Smilie

To me that's a compliment.
The more boring it seems to "normal" people the more fun it sounds to other nerds :3

I mean this is a video game forum, what did you expect?

Looks cool.

iam buying the game dont want to see to much of it

I genuinely believe that Sega are intent on destroying a legend. The last few sonic games have been piss-poor, and what i've seen of this one doesn't bode well, to be honest.

Shame, Back in the days of the Mega Drive, the little blue fucker had no idea that his creators would end up raping him so much that his own mother wouldn't want to play with him.

I'd rather pull my pubes out of my scrotum than play that game.

Awesome update. I wonder when they will show us the Special Stages. Would be nice to see what they look like compared to the Genisis versions.

Lots more interviews and stuff are now up, with some great and important info.

Sonic 4 Length confirmed

A bit early? Still, awesome news. 3 Episodes with 4 Zones per episode, each Zone has 3 acts.

Let's look at the nitty gritty!
Sonic Advance 3 = 7 Zones of 3 Acts = 21 Acts altogether
Sonic 3 & Knuckles = 12 Zones of 2 Acts = 24 Acts altogether
Sonic 4 = 12 Zones of 3 Acts = a whopping great 36 Acts altogether! Bravo!

Some more juicy info

Most important/interesting stuff:
-Sonic 4 has only been in development for a year including pre-development ideas. Oh dear?
-Tails won't appear in Episode 1
-The Homing Attack has been included to provide a new sense of speed and flow to the Classic Series
-New and old enemies and gimmicks will return. Those worried about the lack of stage gimmicks can rest easy.
-"Of course Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy is the one this has most in common with. With the DS Sonic series, you have various actions like grind or boost. What I am creating with this title is a simple platform action game that you can enjoy with one button." Fucking rejoice.
-No Vs Mode in Episode 1
-Updating a 16-bit Classic Series game series with high quality CG rendering is something the devs think is lovely. If only Capcom listened to this.

I Tails or Knuckles are in the next episodes, I hope they make it so the first episode can be played with them with an update allowing you to go new routes etc.

I also hope they release them close together. Having to wait a few months between episodes would be extremely annoying.

I wonder how much each episodes will cost.
