Well it depends partly on your party's level average. Here's a guide I found that gives an idea of qhich shards appear in what dark notes.

The second number is the one he's referring to, the first I THINK dictates which songs/series might show up

It is not wise to speak on subjects you do not know all facts about, nor is it smart to judge a game based on looks alone. PSN: Nintendo_Gamer 3DS: 4296-3029-7422

I have about 28,000 Rhythmia. A lot of you probably know I had a bit of a rant in the review thread, and I've since come to enjoy the game a fair bit more. I'm still kinda thoroughly disappointed by the small amount of music readily in the game, and heck even the fact that remixes of remakes aren't an option for the NES tracks, that would have been awesome (as the NES tracks themselves are so short that playing the whole stage is repetitive and gets boring, the remake tracks are much longer)..

But the fact that I've been playing it a few days straight and am still pretty much enjoying it is a testament to its overall quality I guess-

I'm now annoyed at something a little more trivial but wOW it bugs me. Saber's Edge from FFXIII awesome tune right? It's one of my fav boss tracks in the series despite the fact I don't really like FFXIII, and I was overjoyed that it's in Theatrhythm.

buT. THE SONG STOPS. BEFORE THE BEST PART OF THE SONG? The stage ends before the song reaches its climax!? It literally leads up to the climax and THEN STOPS. And you can't change the length of the stage!? In Guitar Hero when you play a song you play it from beginning to end, it's not appropriated to some kind of average stage length.

I just want to play the whole of Saber's Edge Square why don't you let me do this ;_;
(I have this issue with a couple of other long tracks such as the FFVII map music)

So yep a trivial complaint it annoys me much more than it should but sob I love that track and they took out my favourite part of it.. Smilie
(PS. the Duodecim version of Saber's Edge would have been perfect for a rhythm game considering the drum line in it- )

Yep, Saber's Edge is one of my FF faves and that hurt me to no end, too. I love the Duoecim version with the drum kick, too - my fave version of it and makes it even more tense. There are a few songs like this that jump in halfway through, too, like One-Winged Angel and Seymour. I mean, even in the music player you can't even play the whole thing wtf.

I think the music content is fairly high - over 70 songs total they say? But that probably includes intro & ending songs that you can't play properly. Maybe if they used a bigger 3DS card they could have done more?

I'll tell you what pissed me off that I recently was introduced to - spinning arrow triggers! Dirty things! I think I'm somewhat used to them now, but when you see enough of them and then you see a normal arrow trigger I'm expecting it to spin around and I hit the wrong direction on the mark.

It is taking a bit of a while to unlock all the characters I want, though. Replaying certain Dark Notes over and over for crystal shards can get a little tedious.

But already this is my most played 3DS game and long may it continue to be.

Ah yeah I really like the intro to Seymour Battle so I was annoyed they skipped it altogether! And not even the music player has the full versions? Come on Square this is an anniversary game port the songs properly ; -;

I'm pretty sure it's more like 50, they say they'll offer 70 songs as dlc and I'm sure the cart can take more music than is on the game already, I think Squeenix just want to charge us for more than they have to charge us for.

The arrow things also catch me by surprise a lot and it's kinda unfair when it breaks a pattern in the middle of it and you're not expecting it ;-;

As for Dark Notes yeah another complaint I have is it taking too long to unlock stuff.. Characters don't do much so idk why they have to be such a pain to unlock, I wish there was a better way to get more Rhythmia too.
I guess it's... making me... play it a lot...

Chaos Shrine mode would be nicer if there were more tunes in it. I'd also like some kind of "random track" option for Challenge Mode.

Nah, they originally said 50 songs for the game but ended up with over 70. They mentioned 50 songs for DLC.

Probably unlockable characters have some good abilities but by the time you get them I wonder if it's worth it?

I want more DLC already. Craving FFX's Challenge and VII's Fight On!

I've unlocked Faris and Vivi, I'm using Faris atm but she only has 3 equip slots? I wonder if the secret characters are just less powerful than the main characters Smilie in which case there really aren't many perks to getting them besides fan favourites.

Yeah I really want Fight On too x-x I hope it's the full version of the song sigh.

I have Vivi and Cid. I'm trying to build a team that use Libra abilities atm.

One thing I don't get is they used the Japanese version of Melodies of Life but put the English version of Sunleth Waterscape? Kinda annoyed me.

But I tell you, playing FFX tracks has been emotional. Suteki Da Ne is so beautiful. It's really making me want to replay the game, even though I'm trying to hold off till FFXHD. But it could be a long wait so I might end up doing it. There are a lot of JP DLC songs from that game that I hope come here. Same for VIII and IX as well!

Ah yeah actually if there's one thing Theatrhythm has succeeded in it's helping me get back into FF as a whole, I've felt like replaying FFI, FFV, and finishing my playthroughs of VII, IX and XII.

..I really hope FFXIIHD is on the way soon, I adore FFXII. I'm looking forward to the X remake too as I've never really had the chance to play it much (all my PS2 versions broke).

So long as you know it's not a remake, just a remaster. I'd like to think Square would do more than just up the graphics, but they have said it's a remaster and not a remake. That rumour of FFXIII's engine for it was too good to be true. Wish we could have online blitzball, though :[

I truly hope they do XII HD and give us the International Zodiac Job System edition that Japan got. We got really lucky here in Europe with getting FFX late and got all the International stuff which America missed out on, but I hope we can all get the extras with a possible XII HD.

Ah I wasn't sure really, I'd heard reports of both. Still a remaster is fine, I hope they add a few more things and make it look nicer, the original hasn't aged too well (better than VII sure but ya)

Same :C I'd always wanted to play that version.
I thought XIIHD was confirmed? I'll be kinda annoyed if it wasn't.

I loved XII so much despite usually not liking that kind of gameplay, I love Ivalice and its races and its music and lore.. like it's an entire microcosm of FF as a whole and manages to interpret classic FF themes in its own way entirely I just love it.
It's a shame the fanbase hated it.

Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

XII HD isn't confirmed at all. Maybe if X HD does well, they'll consider it.

I agree. I was surprised by a lot of the hate for XII. I've found for almost all situations/games the haters speak much louder than the fans, and you will find a lot of praise for XII if you look for it.

I actually played XII after XIII and was astounded by its quality. I felt that there were things in XII that could have been in XIII. The gambit system was awesome for setting up how you wanted your allies to act. Can't agree with you more on Ivalice and its world, races and everything else. It's proof that medieval and modern FF can both exist and are deserving of the name (not using Final Fantasy in Bravely Default's title to distinguish it from modern FF of today was a strange reasoning from Square). But it reminds me that I need to play FFTA2 and how disappointed I was that Fortress was cancelled.

( Edited 15.07.2012 12:51 by Azuardo )

Ah Fortress was cancelled? Not really surprised as the Ivalice stuff had been really quiet for a while.. I've actually been wondering where all the new FF games are, there was a while they made a bunch at once but it feels like all we have to look forward to is XIII-3 which ngl I'm not really looking forward to after how they treated the first 2 games! (I like my experience to be in one game tyvm not distanced over 3 games with little extra bits to buy everywhere)

I think playing XII before XIII was one of the reasons XIII disappointed me so much. Huge detailed towns and expanses and decently clever mobs and such.. really pushed the PS2 to its limits and I was endlessly impressed with it.

PS. Is Bravery Default an Ivalice game? I don't know much about it but I really hope it gets a localisation either way.

Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

I can understand that greatly. Even playing them in reverse still showed me just how much XII was certainly one of the best in the series in terms of expanse, freedom and quests.

Nah Bravely Default is the successor to FF: 4 Heroes of Light, itself a spin-off with old-school FF mechanics/medieval world.

Ah I played a bit of 4 Heroes, I should play more the music was lovely but man was it difficult.

Bravery Default should really carry the FF name! It's strange that it doesn't. I always saw 4 Heroes as a 'what if FF started from 1 again with a different set of recurring themes and tropes' it was really interesting.

Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

They mentioned they don't want to confuse people into thinking it's a Final Fantasy like today's modern ones so didn't use the name, but retained the 'FF' initials with the Flying Fairy subtitle to stay to its roots. But it doesn't make much sense when you already have medieval FFs like 4 Heroes, Tactics, XII, XIV and even to an extent Crystal Chronicles all using the Final Fantasy title, and all existing in recent years.

If this is a sign that Square want to change FF into a modern/scifi kind of game and lose its roots entirely then I'll be pretty upset.

Also it seems like the Crystal Chronicles series is dead.

Either way Square's reasoning behind that name isn't very sound, especially since it would easily sell more with the Final Fantasy title. Why not just name it "Final Fantasy XV" and be done with it huh? Smilie People love a 'new classic' every now and then.

Well it's contradictory because after all, XIV is recent, and they admitted they don't know which direction they'll take XV (medieval or modern). Whilst I enjoy modern FF greatly, medieval is just as good, as proven with IX and XII.

That said, I really liked the look of the Luminous Engine demo. It was modern in the sense that it's got the present day look to it, not too futuristic, and the European setting crossed with FF magic works. Kinda reminds me of FFX's world. I'd be happy if that's the route XV goes, but we do need a XII/Fortress-like game again.

If I could pick one or the other I'd rather FF remain a medieval series at its core, it's.. a 'Fantasy' game, and it's always done that pretty well, the staples like mages and magic and the races and such.. it works so well as a medieval game and well I think it's known for that despite some of its more popular games having more modern/scifi elements.

A mix is really good, but I hope it never loses sight of that medieval core. FFIV had giant robots with labyrinths inside them, FFVI had machines powered by summons, but they're still mostly medieval.

I'd say somewhere between the settings 4, 6 & 8 are set in are what the FF series should be. I hated that Agni's Prophesy tech demo because of the world it was in. It was pretty cool how she created a cure potion...BUT thw fact that there was product placement with that Coka-Cola bottle (you can see part of the logo just beneath her hand) just ruined the sense of Fantasy. Also the part with the Arab terrorists hit too close to home with real world events & the part where they injected a hyena with something to make it mutate into a monster reeked of RE5 elements....it just all felt so wrong...

Could Final Fantasy VII be seen as a 'sci-fi' FF? Is FFX seen as a 'medieval' FF? If so then I prefer a FF game with both elements. Lol

Naaah 7 is more steam punk style like 6 is (Mako=steam), just a bit more modern but not as technologicaly advanced as 8 or 13..

FF3 PSP has English text option if you set your PSP's language to English. Good for importers who want it earlier - September release in Japan. Western release likely to happen now.

Related - Top 5 selling PS1 games for June on PSN:

Nice to know Tomba is on there now...wish my Vita could access the ps1 titles I PAYED FOR!!!! Are those worldwide sales or EU PSN Azu?

Ah. US sales.

Gotten my first party in Theatrhythm to L99, so am raising a new one now; Lightning, Vivi, Squall and Cecil. Those shards are so bloody difficult to get, I really wanted Aerith this time around. Did unlock Locke at least. ^^

Edit: Just saw today's DLC. FFVII Boss music?! F-in bought!
