I've always been thinking of either getting a PS3 or a 360. I know I'd have to keep my PS2 to play most of the PSX games I have, and I already have a PSP for most of the PSN downloads, but it's still a tie...
Got my PS3 pre-ordered today. Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on when I get back from my weekend break, it shall be mine.

Only Ps2 games, PS1 games will work fine

Ah, nice one. It\'ll probably be \'C3Mike\', tends to be my tag everywhere.
EDIT: It\'s \'c3_mason\'. Couldn\'t register C3Mike or C3Mason.
Ooh, Lrrr, you just made me think. Based off your post, I can chuck PS1 disc games in and play them fine in PS3, right? Can you save PS1 disc game saves directly to PS3\'s hard drive or do you need an old memory cards still?

You create virtual memory cards on the Hard Drive, and save to them. You can get the saves off of the old memory cards, but you need an adaptor for that.
The function to create PS2 memory cards is still there, unless they decide to make different firmwares for the different models, but I don\'t think they would do that
Are you getting any games with it?

The biggest thing that really stings me about the PS3 is no PS2 compatibility on the vast majority of models. I wish they'd bring that back. My cousin Mandy has one of the launch 60GB PS3s that does play PS2 games, and I must say the emulation seems spot-on. Even Capcom Classics Collection 2 ran perfectly, as far as I could tell, and that was already emulation (of old games) on PS2, so even being emulated twice, I didn't notice a difference.
Some games like Yakuza 2 have problems i.e. the system crashes, but it still plays.
well they be talk of them working on a update to adding a ps2 emulator

You can\'t expect the emulation to be perfect. A later game like Yakuza 2 might be difficult to emulate on a system with PS3 specs. From my experience of PS2 compatibility on PS3, it\'s generally pretty good, and easily on par with the 360\'s compatibility with old Xbox games. Why did they ditch the PS2 software emulation?

I ask myself that every time I switch on my ps2 to play persona 4
it was not PS2 software emulation it was a ps2 in there well part of it so it was just costing to much to have it in
Starting with the release of the PS3 in Europe, they had ditched the PS2 hardware early on and started using software emulation. That also got ditched eventually for some reason.

The US launch PS3s had both Graphics Synthesizer and Emotion Engine in which enabled backwards compatibility with PS2. When they released it in Europe, they removed the Emotion Engine and emulated that part, but left the GS in there, which allowed partial bc. As soon as the GS is emulated on the PS3 along with the EE, BC will be back
I don't really think you should praise the Xbox 360's BC, if I could show you Silent Hill 2 you would be shocked. There's textures missing lol.

Excellent, nice one.
I've bought LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted, already have Burnout Paradise from yonks ago. After that the next one I buy will probably be that EyePet at the end of October, looks like great technology; I'll likely get bored of it within a couple of weeks, but I have to give it a try!
To be honest. It doesn\'t look too bad, I might get one myself someday. When I can afford it.
It\'s my birthday in 2 and a bit weeks, so who knows.

Just downloaded the Dirt 2 Demo, and i'm liking the new look and driving mechanics. Customizing the inside of the car was cool. FUZZY DICE!!!
