no, it is 299 euros and dollars with 120Gb HDD. No Backwards compatibility though. The old stock is coming to the same price as well. And it\'s been rumoured for a long time. Since way before E3. 2 thirds of the size of the original

I guess the Slim must be gimped in some way other the backward compatibility if they're both priced the same.

I'm not buying a PS3 if I can't play my PS2/PS1 games on it. >:[

they\'re just getting rid of the old stock I think. I read somewhere sony have reduced the costs of making a PS3 heavily (60% I think). It\'s exactly the same as a 40/80 Gb model, just smaller. Still plays PS1 games I guess, like every other model (they wouldn\'t need much to do).

Now if that PS2 emulator patent plays out, the BC could soon be back as well

I also guess the power supply is going to be external now as well.

I thought I heard that the Slim lacked BC entirely, but that may have just been musings.

We\'ll wait for more concrete details I guess. Sony will probably make a PS3 Slim press release in the next few days.

They haven't even announced a solid date yet, just that it should be out everywhere by September the first. Also, if rumours on Twitter are true, it will be £250 is, which is only slightly more than the PSP Go

What an ugly looking console.

That's saying something considering all consoles before 5th gen never really made an effort to look nice on their own.

I just read about it on T3 And it really does look a bit ugly. Especially compare to the original. 120gb harddrive is an improvement.

Yeah even though it looks kinda ugly, the plus sides and the fact it won't cost any more money than a regular PS3 mean I'll probably get one too.

It's not like I would be selling my PS2 anyway, but backward compatibility would definitely be nice so let's hope they get that new BC system up.

Looks good though, should be interesting to see if Microsoft will counter this in any way besides pricing; they'll be left with the bulkiest console on the market.

I'd get a PSthree. Maybe not for £250, but I'd get one at some point.

I would say we\'re going to get it at the end of the launch window - September 11th, which is a Friday. Suits me fine.

And with that, I\'m throwing my hat into the PS3 crowd. Within the next month I will more than likely be buying one, as I was waiting for it to drop to £250 or below. This will be the first gen I have all three consoles, and I think £250 for the PS3 exclusives, though there are few in comparison to 360/Wii, the PSN line-up and a BluRay player is great. Just need a PSP after that.

Think I\'m going to go slim. It looks a little ugly, but it\'ll fit into my setup far better, and I don\'t really buy games consoles for the beauty contest anyway.

EDIT: Actually, after seeing this geek porn (it\'s an unboxing vid) I prefer the slim\'s look anyway.

Amazon UK is saying September 4th, so still a Friday but a week earlier. Not fussed either way. I'll probably buy it on launch.

Has anyone seen the Motion control trailer? They blatantly take a couple of Jab at Natal. But for redemption some of the concepts were crazy good.

The PS3slim looks much much better. No ugly Spider-Man font, no awful chrome and no fingerprints!

I'm a little disappointed to see that it has the same width as the original but that's not that big a problem. I was also hoping for a re-designed controller to go with it. The triggers on the DS3 (if you can call them triggers) need changing.

Will definately pick one up eventually.

How are they financing this? You've got to hand it to them - they've got balls to be thinking as long term as they are. I heard they're hoping to return to profitability sometime in Q4 2018.

I don't know. I seriously question their logic. The only real difference is that it's smaller and perhaps a bit quieter. Not backwards compatible or (critically) cheaper. Releasing a new SKU sends a message to all current PS3 owners - 'your console is bulky, loud, and the shiny plastic is tacky'. However, there's not really much incentive for them to 'upgrade'. Most people who are bothered have tripped out their PS with a new HDD anyway - 120GB isn't much of a draw when you can pick up 320GB on play.com for £40. There's not much carrot there.

Perhaps people who have held off getting a PS3 might be persuaded. But it's still expensive. And I wouldn't say it's much of a looker. Probably on a par with the original. Smaller is better, but from Sony I'd have expected something dripping with sex.

£150 with BC and we'd be talking. Until then,
