I like the slim, but I think it looks cheap with that finish. It looks like the budget version of the PS3.
I still think my PS3 \"classic\" (as I will now call it) looks classier.

Got my Pee Ess Free this morning, the slim one. Got a few games (Drake\'s Fortune, LittleBigPlanet, and COD:WaW), and two Blu-rays (Blade Runner: Final Cut, Beowulf: Director\'s Cut). Didn\'t have any problems at all getting one, in the end. In my mind I had pictured a repeat of the launch of the PS2 slim, where you couldn\'t get one for love nor money. Wasn\'t like that, this morning. There was no-one queuing up outside either of the GAME shops, nor Gamestation.
Anyways, I opted for Argos, because I knew they were doing a decent bundle (PS3 Slim + COD:WaW - £244), and I figured the PS3\'s there would actually be available, rather than on reserve. And I was right, walked in and bought one no hassle at all. Anyway, haven\'t played any of my games or Blu-rays on it yet, just setting up my PSN account.
Edit: Sorted out my PSN account, I wanted it to be the same as my XBL tag, but someone already had it on PSN, so I had to settle for \'Mart9n\'.

Martin I just watch Blade Runner: FC on Blu today tell me what you think, I also have Beowulf Director's Cut. You have great games so congrats, hope to see you on Uncharted in a couple of months.
My PSN ID is S1mez86 if you or anyone wants to add me.
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it. I was determined to get some sort of bundle, and the Argos one seemed pretty good for an in-store thing. Just put LBP in for the first time and it's updating (as COD did), is this the water update? Or do you have to buy that? Haven't played Drake's Fortune yet, but I know it's good.
So anyways yeah, got a few good games and a couple good Blu-rays. To answer your question, I really only popped both films on for a minute or two each just to see what they look like in 1080p (got a HDMI cable for my PS3, now two of the three HDMI slots on my TV are used!), so I can't really critique them, yet. I mean, I've seen Blade Runner before, but not the Final Cut version. I'm apprehensive about it, since the Director's Cut I have on DVD I thought was perfect. We'll see, I guess.
Is there a way to get a nice banner for my PSN account for forums, like the XBL thing in my sig?
Oh, and the PS3 Slim is awfully quiet!
press the get ID log in and look for My Portable ID they a little one too I think they adding in some new one\'s more little one with more info on them
lbp water only just started beta

It\'s not the water update, but the game updates with everything thats been released on the store (like stickerpacks, the MGS pack etc) so that you can play any level that someone has made using them (and if you buy them it\'s just unlocks that part of the patch), and also they changed a few create elements of the game.
Drakes Fortune also has a small patch (13Mb i think) but that just gives trophies to it.
There are quite a few places to get the sig. HTe one Jump\'s got is from the playstation site, but needs manual updating at present. (but i dont think the US ones do, not sure) Here
Edit: Also, don\'t know if anyone else had noticed, but Platinum trophies don\'t count towards the completion anymore, pushing your percentage of completion up

So where on the web does a UK PS3-owner go? Anyway, I'm having a go on the PlayStation Store, bought Final Fantasy VII. It's still downloading, though the file size is around 1.4GB, so it's not going too slowly. Good price (£7.99, costs around £30 to pick up a used copy on eBay in good condition, so £8 is good value). I hope there's no emulation issues, since in this form I can only play it on PS3.
Firmware 3.00 is pretty nice. I understand that BBC iPlayer is a new addition on this firmware. While it's pretty handy to have BBC iPlayer plummed into my television, the frame rate and overall quality of the PS3 iPlayer seems quite low, and looks better on PC. It's only beta, so we'll see if they improve it or not. If they can get it looking as good as it does on my computer, that'll be awesome.

You can log into the US playstation site using a UK PSN, you just can\'t log into the store
And Martin, I linked you to the EU PSN site, not sure why your password wouldn\'t work though. And the only thing I can see thats wrong with FFVII is that cloud seems to be missing part of his arm ...not sure why

Went out and got some drugs, so I'm gonna chill with one of my Blu-rays in a bit (probably Beowulf, since I haven't seen that yet).

I guess it's just a matter of taste, but I vastly prefer the slim to the look of the previous models. The old PS3 was one huge, hulking, ugly behemoth, and for me the glossy finish did nothing but attract fingerprints and smudges. Plus I never liked the Spider-Man 2 font that Sony used up until now.
The only PS3 I'd swap my slim for is the very original launch model that plays PS2 games. That aside, the slim is where it's at!
Waiting to go and collect mine...a freak storm just stopped me going out, couldn't even see a few inches in front of me! Waiting til about half 6 and then picking up my pre-ordered one, £250 with Batman: Arkham Asylum. Then my HDMI cable, LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted should arrive tomorrow. Might just grab a HDMI now if I see one on the cheap while I'm out so I don't have to play in crapovision for any amount of time.
Adjusted my tag from earlier, it should now be c3_mason when I get online...
Enjoy it mate, it's pretty swish! I'm watching Blade Runner in 1080p at the moment
Do not pay over stupid prices for a HDMI cable, they ALL produce the same quality picture no matter the price.
Yeah, exactly. I just got the GAME own-brand one for £9.95, looks lovely.
Yeah, it was proven somewhere that a more expensive cable would only perform noticeably better over a distance. Argos do some cheap HDMI cables. They're about £5 And I use it without any problem.
Just a few pointers for new owners:
-Sony has not yet made it so that trophies automatically sync with their servers (this happens on Xbox), and so you need to manually sync them by just viewing them
-Bronze/Silver/Gold are in place of a achievement points, with gold being worth more to the completion of a game and your level(think RPG style) than a bronze. Platinums no longer count towards the percentage on the trophy list
-Platinum trophies exist on all disc based games coming out now (only exception being where the game was originally on the store).
-Older games do not have trophies unless patched in (eg Fallout 3, GTA4, Uncharted)
-PSN games in general do not have a platinum trophy. A few full retail games you can get off the store (such as Burnout Paradise) will have a platinum, as do Wipeout HD and Warhawk
-Content can be downloaded unlimited times on 5 different consoles. Singstore is the only exception to this (but you can call them up if you have a breakdown)
-PSN prepay cards should be around soon
-If you go to a different TV with a different set up, holding down the power button will reset the display settings to the best available.
-The hard drive is upgradeable to any standard 2.5 inch SATA (remember to back up and get a copy of the firmware from the internet first)
-A few games require an install onto the Hard Drive, which compensate for the slower Blu-ray speeds. On some games this is optional, others it is mandatory (it tells you it will install, and won't play without it). Older games can take up to 5Gb, although now it is usually significantly less (Batman only takes 1Gb). SOme games do not need it (ie Uncharted) and don't offer it. MGS4 has an install inbetween each act in the game, and you cannot go to an previous act without another install. You can delete the game install data/Patches/DLC from the Game Data Utility whilst retaining the save data
-Obviously do not switch off if it's saving, although I don't think it's such an issue as I don't believe the slims have an on/off switch on the. Still don't pull the cable though. A number of people have got corrupted saves this way
-Not many games support custom music, and there are different ways for different games. If internet rumour is to be believed (and the source is the guy who said everything about the slim and PSP Go! months ago)this is EA's fault as it wouldn't work on one of their games (Harry potter and the Order of the Phoenix). Some games offer their own solution by having it as an option in the game (Burnout Paradise, Wipeout), whilst others allow it through the XMB when you press the PS button in game (Street Fighter 4 (only in fights), Killzone 2 (in online only), Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Warhawk and a few others)
-If you want to take stuff a USB, there is a folder structure the PS3 will instantly recognize (have a folder called PS3 in the root of the drive, and within that make folders for VIDEO, MUSIC, UPDATE etc.), or just press triangle and select Display All to show everything without the hassle
Cheers for that. Watching the new Shooting Stars episode on my PS3 via BBC iPlayer - loving it!
I\'ve just been playing Drake\'s Fortune (great game, so far), and gotten into the first cave (smashing the wooden floor with the boulder). The game crashed on me twice in the cave (not in exactly the same spot). Not just the game, the whole PS3 froze, both times. Pressing the PS button did nothing. Is the game known for crashing? Or should I be worried about my PS3? The disc is in fine condition, though it was pre-owned.
I have had my PS3 on for about four hours straight, and the disc was very warm when it came out.
Edit: Sorry about the double-post.

I've got to that bit round my friends house once, on his PS3 Phat and it never froze up. I really hope it's not your PS3.
Sorry I can't help you more.
Thanks for the info Lrr!
I'm downloading firmware 3 now, then I'll be adding a few of you. Didn't get Batman, they were out of stock. Got Call of Juarez instead, if it's shit I'll trade it in. I got the same HDMI cable as you Martin.

That's what receipts are for, I guess! Maybe this new PS3 has a 360-like design flaw? No units have really been the distance yet, so it's a bit of an unknown quantity in that regard.
Ignore this post.
Sorry.

Don't say things like that! Might be the game disc itself even though you say it's in good nick...have you had problems with any other games?
