Back. Man you guys are going nuts for this
Good to see everyone enjoying it.
On my game, Joey hardly calls me anymore and is the proud owner of a level 35 Raticate. It's probably even stronger now too.
The box system on this is lovely I think, after putting up with a horrible takingforever box system on Gens 1 and 2, and the lack of touch screen on even Platinum, it's really great to be able to sort it like this. The item menus, all the touch screen stuff is very handy, and I can only hope that it'll be expanded upon by GenV at the end of the year.
Right, where to begin? I've now beaten 7 of the Kanto Gym Leaders and I'm working my way to obliterating all the routes and caves before I tackle Blue. My brother on the other hand has already caught half of the game's legies and beaten the powered up E4, he'll prolly head for Mt Silver soon.
My team's come quite a ways since last time I posted.
Lv 55 Gardevoir
Lv 55 Tyranitar (DEODUDE)
Lv 53 Ampharos (Artery)
Lv 45 Lapras (LEPPER)
Lv 43 Typhlosion
Lv 40 Pidgeot (SNIDGE)
Yeah, DEODUDE has really come a long way quite quickly ^^
Okaaaaaay. This game is insultingly easy for a Pokémon game, atleast until you get to post game stuff. The balance of wild/trainers can be awful at times, with wild Pokémon very rarely breaking 30 no matter how far in the game you are. When you get to Kanto you're thrown head first into trainers that have 50+ teams, meaning you'll be going to and from the Pokémon Center perhaps a bit too often.
Yes I know Gen 2 was always like this, but man it really puts the other gens into perspective. I thought maybe they would sort things out a little for this, but nah, gotta keep most teams exactly as they were 10 years ago. How am I supposed to train for fighting Red or the powered up Gym Leaders if there's such a huge level jump and there are no Wild Pokémon over level 50 ever?
I do however like that Kanto trainers have new Pokémon with them sometimes. Makes it feel like a real remake. There are many mentions of Hoenn and Sinnoh too, whereas in FR/LG Hoenn was an evil satan devil word that was never allowed to be uttered.
tl;dr Awesome game, but not the perfect Pokémon game everyone always remembers. The erratic but never "just right" difficulty has definitely shown its age.
If it weren't for the touch screen features, the lovely graphics, and the fact that there are tons of extra bits of plot (Gym Leaders, Silver, Unown, you name it) I would probably still prefer Platinum because it's a more solid experience overall.
As of right now I don't know which one I like more ^-^;
PS. The slight pessimism is to make people appreciate what games since have done for the series. Nostalgia seems to have very little effect on me, Platinum is awesome so if you like HG/SS and haven't tried Gen4 yet I suggest you do
