This topic is here to catch the tears caused by other topics at the fall/loss/absence of said Sega/Dreamcast/Shenmue. If another discussion or piece of news makes you want to cry/rant/wank put those feelings here (well...maybe not the wank) instead of mucking up the forum.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I still hugely dislike Sony because I blame them for SEGA's exit from the hardware race. However, I must support them as there are some fantastic games on PS2. This tears me up a little.

The fake bollocks rubbish propaganda put out by Sony was a major factor. When the PS2 actualy appeared it was terrible in comparison and the first few games were almost all shit.

At the time (2000-2002)I was a dormant Nintendo fanboy, knew nothing about Sega and hated Sony for the vast quantity of utter shite that they allowed onto the PSone and 2.

I only gave Sega a chance about a year ago and was stunned at what I had been missing. I now have a DC and a Saturn and am only limited by cash as to how many fecking awesome masterpieces I can buy.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

As much as I'd like Sony to be 100% to blame Sega had their problems. The stream of add ons for the mega drive drained the purse and the Saturn was simply not developer friendly. So by the time the DC game the damage was done.

Sega are good! Why do you think some older gamers enjoy the SNES/Mega Drive era more than now? Because it was two great companies, renowned for quality, fighting for the gamers' affection! Smilie

The saturn was flying off the shelves Nipon side, until the success of the PS in the rest of the world developers moved onto Sonys side.

Well, to be fair, the actual reason that SEGA exited the hardware market, was because they ran out of money (rather obviously, I know, but let me finish). This was do in part to massive interest surrounding the PS2, leading up to it's launch. Now, Sony can't be blamed for everything. They have every right to push their new hardware, and the fact that no-one will ever make a console as good as Dreamcast doesn't alter that fact.

Sony can't have been expected to say "Well, buy a PS2 if you've already got a Dreamcast. Otherwise, get a Dreamcast". They need to market their products as well as possible. Truthfully, though.

This is were Sony fall from grace, as far as I'm concerned. They're such LYING CUNTS when it comes to their next major hardware release. 'It can do this and that' etc. No it can't, Sony. The PS3's 'capabilities' (as claimed by Sony) have, by many, been proven an impossibility. I won't go into the technical side too much (or the PS3 side too much). Put simply, Sony haven't taken into account certain common-as-muck computing issues (which are multiplied tenfold, thanks to the PS3's Cell) in their spec sheets.

Lies. Just like the lies on the run up to the PS2's launch. "Look at this real-time video" they claimed. Yeah, piss off. Look at that same video now. As of January 2006, the PS2 STILL hasn't produced graphics of that quality.

How long must we wait? Until the PS5 comes out, when developers finally harness the 'full potential' of the PS2's hardware? Fuck off. In fact, Sony, the Dreamcast is actually graphically superior to your PS2 in a few notable areas.

You did it with the PS2, and you're doing it again with the PS3. Anyways, yes, Sony should take a major part of the blame. SEGA however, are not completely guilt-free of the Dreamcast's death. Although they make sublime games and consoles, SEGA are (or were), complete fools when it comes to maintaining a business. Throughout the Dreamcast's life, they were haemorrhaging money at an alarming rate. SEGA are not Microsoft, and cannot afford to lose money like that.

They dwindled good money away on rubbish hair-cutting ads, and big showbiz bashes. They spent alot on crap ads, none of which showed the actual games or the console. They spent a gargantuan sum making Shenmue (still the most expensive game ever made), yet never advertised it at all (do you remember seeing it on TV?). Consiquently, it didn't sell anywhere near enough to make a profit (though it did sell reasonably well, despite what some may tell you).

Ad a hefty rival like Sony, who actually know how to get something into the public's brain, how to advertise. A hefty (lying cunt of a) rival with a new console to push, no less, not forgetting Nintendo, either, and it's easy to see how SEGA lost out. The kitty simply ran dry. Sony aren't completely to blame (though they bear a major part of the burden, and should be ashamed of their outright lies), SEGA should have handled things better.

So here we are, 2006. The next wave of consoles are all raging about their online capabilities (a Dreamcast first), connectivity (a Dreamcast first), and one even has a controller which seems to work (and look) startlingly similar to the SEGA Bass Fishing controller. They bring one or two of their own ideas. But mainly, they're just thieving from the grave of the Dreamcast, and claiming it as their own. Most of you wouldn't even know, though...

Indeed, the Saturn was handeled appaulingly and did nothing to repair the damage done by the 32x and mega CD.

Blame yourselves if you didn't buy a Dreamcast before Sega exited the console business. Smilie

I personally have never played the Dreamcast but I will pay my respects to it. I mean come on,
Sony fans who first gave you Shenmue and 2K Sports series before it lost American football, hmm?
X-Box fans, who first had really pretty graphics before you did?
And last but not least, Cube fans, who gave you Skies of Arcadia and F-Zero GX Huh?
I think my point is clear. Fans of any system whether or not they played the Dreamcast need to pay respects to the Dreamcast and stop dissing it.

The Dreamcast kicks ass, and I love the user interface. Far better than the GC's

The Saturn's UI compared to the Psone's is breathtaking.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Apparently, the Saturn is actually all-round superior to the PSone, hardware-wise. It was just so complex, that it was never made themost of.

Blame yourselves if you didn't buy a Dreamcast before Sega exited the console business.

I know, some of us where there on launch night in the freezing cold fighting for Sega Smilie

Oni Ninja in your whole rant up above these posts you didnt mention Nintendo once.

SEGA burned their cash. The vast add ons to their consoles increased production costs let alone having to market the fuckers. Their games were inconsistant, some were kick ass whereas others were pure utter shite.

I admit it, im not really a SEGA fan, im a Sonic fan though. Nintendo had rivaled SEGA for years and SONY had pushed SEGA out of the market simply because SEGA couldnt balance their bank account properly. Nintendo could, and at that point around the year 2000, Nintendo had a stong hold on the western world with the Pokemon generation.

SEGA had their time and done with it. I think they will be back once they learn their mistakes and see a weakness in the market. Hopefully they'll make their return.

SEGA had some great consoles but not enough games for each console. The Master System was great but only a few memorable games. The Game Gear was equally good but with battery life probs and lack of support it wasnt all that. Besides it was jus a portable Master System anyway. I never had a Mega Drive/Genesis/32X/Mega CD/Nomad/ nething else lol. The Saturn was a flop, i dont care what you lot say, it was an overpriced piece of shit with nothing on it that everyone says "oh do you rememember that game on the Sega Satun" Everyone says "oh do u remember Goldeneye, Or Perfect Dark etc etc on the N64"

The Dreamcast was the only one worth having, like most sega consoles it was just a portable arcade machine. Soul Calibur, Capcom V-S SNK, Marvel V-S Capcom, Crazy Taxi etc etc. I still got my Dreamcast but to be honest SEGA cant develop hardware that doesnt go shitty after a couple of years. My Dreamcast keeps resetting after a while. Infact i have to have the disc lid OPEN to play it, I open the DC CD lid, and then dont close it. I put a weight on top, like a Alarm Clock and slowly close the lid but not so it clicks. The problem ive had with all my DC is that the discs wont read when the lid is close and when they do they reset after about 2mins so i have to that...piece of lovable shit

*Sorry this post is alllllllll over the place, way to tired**

^ Fix thing that holds the lid shut. The dreamcast always re-sets when you open the disc cover.

You're wrong. I didn't go off on a tangiant about Nintendo, because they hold absolutely no blame for the Dreamcast's demise at all. Other than being a strong competitor, they had done nothing to hurt SEGA. They were good, honest competitors, for the most part. They're also no-where near as popular as Sony. We were talking about the downfall of the Dreamcast, and who was to blame, capiche?

Me and you are as one. We are like a single being. Is there anyway to merge our accounts on C3? So that before we post, we must consult one another (and we'd obviously instantly agree about everything). Perhaps some mutual masturbation, also.

Again, tumbleweed time.

But yeah, launch night was amazing. Got home and put SA in the little eauty and sat wiht my jaw on the floor at the stunning intro movie. Chaos bursting through that building is a major gaming moment for me. The DC also represents my first foray into the gaming community (i.e. magazine buying, forum posting etc etc)

For me, launch night was a mix of Sonic Adventure and Virtua Fighter 3tb, but mostly the latter. I'd played VF3 in the arcade for years, and always fantasized about having it at home. Games consoles were always far too weak to handle VF3, though. Until the Dreamcast, that is.

Then there was Shenmue. Which was my entire life for a week. Didn't eat or sleep, just explored the amazing virtual Yokosuka. Then came Shenmue II a year and a half later. What an astounding game that was. Not really a sequal, just a continuation. They both part of a larger whole. People have said that about other games, but for Shenmue, it really is true.

That setting has got to be my favourite in a videogame, ever. 1980's Japan/China. Fantastic. Guilin was so, so beautiful. Even though it was only virtual Guilin. I felt like I had been there after playing Shenmue II. I feel strange. So whistful and nostalgic, yet so fucking blind with rage. Really, I need my Shenmue III. I'm a man on the fucking edge.

Shenmue 3 could get me buying a 360, the previous games were simply stunning. Especially the end to disk 3 of shenmue 2. Never has a game had me that engrossed, brilliant.

Also a lot of forgotten games, remember Sega Swirl Smilie

*shame*

I was there for the Mega Drive though! And Saturn! Even a Mega CD! The N64 just tempted me more than a Dreamcast...

That was one hell of a rant Oni. Agree agree agree. Smilie

I know SEGA were to blame in many aspects and it wasn't just Sony, but I know that it was the bullshit propaganda of Sony that helped dig out the grave for Dreamcast. At least I didn't succumb to the hype and help out Sony...

EDIT: I remember SEGA Swirl. Smilie There's a Flash version of it about somewhere, I need a look for it...

Same here, I've never owned a Sony console. Thanks to much of the Sega community though keeping me buying Sega games, and I can honestly say I feel so good to have stuck by the DC. The games line-up was simply staggering.

I own a PS2 now, but I made damn sure to get it second hand and to get all the games I own second hand as well. There are some great games that I didn't want to pass up on that were only on the console, but I made the concious decision to not line their pockets in the process.

pah, im an anti-sony kid........i used to say that all the time, but i sold out when Gran Turismo 4 came out. I got my PS2 Slimline bundle with Gran Turismo,Metal Gear 3 and Killzone. Quite cheap at

The DC had plenty of AAA titles, one christmas we had tony hawks, shenmue 2, crazy taxi 2, quake 3 arena, unreal tournament, jet set radio and more I can't remember. Problem was lack of advertising.
