Game just came today for me. I think I'm nearing completing the opening tutorial -- about to head down to the "surface". Impressions so far:
Controls are different than anything I've ever encountered, to the point where it's like learning something completely new. My body wants me to to flail like mad whenever there's an enemy, which is leading to poor results. I need to remind myself continually to be relaxed and realistic with my sword motions. The sensitivity of motion plus is fantastic. It rewards measured and controlled sword swings verses insane flailing. I need a few more hours before becoming fully comfortable with the scheme, but so far I'm feeling okay with it. There's definitely a learning curve, but it feels realistic. I have to learn how to become a good "Swordsman" -- just as you would in real life.
The cut scenes though are easily the best Nintendo has ever produced. There is so much charm and emotion in every slight grin from Link and each gaze from Zelda. It's really phenomenal, and some of the most expressive work I've seen in a video game.
This complaint will be controversial though -- the lack of voice acting is really starting to become even more noticeable in this day and age. Fine, let Link stay mute, but the world around him could really benefit from voice acting. I'm tired of reading speech bubbles like its 1992. Nintendo is doing such a great job with animation, but it doesn't matter how well the character is animated if I can't actually pay attention to them because I'm too busy reading speech bubbles. It's distracting, and it's taking away from the great work they're doing with the character interactions.
This game -- like the Mario Galaxies before it -- is also making me wish even more that Nintendo had made the Wii HD capable. This game is utterly and completely gorgeous. I love the style. But the jaggies are killing me.
edit: For some reason, dowsing is causing serious calibration problems for me. Very very frustrating.
