Finish time was about 35 hours.

How much sidequesting and searching for Pieces of Heart did you do? I've done a lot of that, lol. Same with gathering upgrade materials. I should have it finished by tomorrow, maybe.

It's not a competition! Smilie

I've just completed the 3rd dungeon. My general impressions.
Things I like:
+Graphics are pretty nice.
+Sword fighting took a while to get used to but is now a lot of fun.
+You can actually buy/find useful things! Smilie There's actually a point to collecting rupees, which is fantastic.
+Dungeon design is all pretty rock solid.
+Items seem to be reused a lot more than in previous games.

Things I don't like:
-No controllable camera! Doesn't make much difference most of the time, but sometimes it does hinder you (say if you need to jump down to a platform below but cannot actually see the platform).
-Strangely the auto-jump has let me down once or twice, but no biggy seen as it doesn't cost you any hearts to fall to your death.
-The game doesn't pause when switching items, which can get irritating considering how often it is required.
-Can't save whenever I want. I know there's plenty of save points about, but seriously?
-No voice acting.

I think giving the world a voice would be amazing, Link doesn't need one, but everyone else does. Most games do it that way, why not Nintendo?

Voices for other characters could work but what language would they be in? If they were in English it would surely disappoint Japanese (and some English speaking) fans, but if it was in Japanese some fans would be put off by the subtitles. I like how they do it in Skyward Sword, the sounds are a lot more expressive than before anyway.

And what was some people's problem with the first boss? I just finished the first temple a few minutes ago and never noticed anything odd, except that it seemed more like a Devil May Cry fight than anything else.

I'm pretty sure that's called localisation Angus Smilie

No need to be patronising. Localisation costs more and splits the game even further than basic translation of text does. Maybe if they included voice options it could work, but otherwise I wouldn't want too separate versions of the game. It would work better in the vain of Yakuza or Killer7/NMH where they recorded it in one language each and used subtitles for localisation. But, as mentioned above, some fans would have problems with that.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be.
I don't think it would be too much of an issue, as characters are generally a one off.

Sorry, I thought the grin at the end was supposed to be patronising.

I guess if they kept Link as a mute then it wouldn't matter either was as the characters, as you said, won't reoccur. I'd just hate to have Link with two voices, like Snake.

I've nearly upgraded everything.

I have a few minor gripes so far, music is one of them, not that any of it sounds bad, because the fact is everything sounds great. It does however lack the sort of catchy tracks that I've come to expect from the series. Nintendo used Yokoto-san, the same guy who did Galaxy's music, and while his work is good at creating a great ambience to locations, it lacks the sort of magic that Kondo-san is able to give Nintendo soundtracks. I think Nintendo need to find a better blend of fresh sounds while retaining the catchy charms of old.

Oh, sorry.. I didn't mean to make it sound like it was a competition, though now I can see how it might of seemed that way. I'm just interested in how much time he spent doing things which aren't a part of the main story/aren't required to finish the game.

I haven't done an awful lot of sidequesting, Mush. Maybe a couple of hours or more, just for the sake of exploration and the odd sidequest here and there. Plus I wanted to beat the game with as minimum hearts as possible, save for collecting the containers after a boss battle. Wouldn't want to make the first playthrough too easy.

I posted my finish time just to indicate how long the story took to beat. 35 hours is a great amount of time for just the story. Not like the 8 hours it took to beat the £40 Uncharted 3 :L So with all the extras left to do, this game has been well worth my money.

Squidboy, seems like most of us share the same opinion. Brilliant ambient music, but just not as many catchy ones, which is surprising for a Zelda.

This is one of my fave games on the Wii, maybe even top of the list. Looking forward to the future now.

I'm pretty sure I was talking to you in the chat about this before, but I like to get pretty much everything on my first playthrough of Zelda games which is why it's always my longest playthrough. Playthroughs after the first, I always just speed through it. Smilie

After 6th dungeon/temple stuff:

Marzy:

By the way, Hajime Wakai also worked on the soundtrack for the game. You can certainly hear some similarities between The Wind Waker in some of the pieces. But as I've mentioned before, it lacks those memorable pieces that will be remembered by fans in years to come. The orchestrated stuff naturally sticks out, because it sounds fantastic and most of them are my favourites throughout what I've played so far.

Anyway, the game is fantastic. I just love videogame music and it's always been a big part of a games for me. I'm just a little disappointed overall, with Skyward Sword's soundtrack.

Going on a Goddess Cube hunt atm, also trying to get the last Gratitude Crystals. Well, I will be doing this later. Going out for a meal with my mum soon, so I'll have to play some more later. Smilie

Re: Marzy (7th dungeon)

@Azuardo

@Marz:

About 22 hours in so far. Brilliant game. Can't wait to see where the story goes. Smilie

I'm on the final boss and I'm getting my bottom kicked every time. I guess you just have to work out a strategy to hit him. It's the second part of it that keeps destroying me though.

Once I've finished it, I think I'll write my own review on the game. Smilie

( Edited 25.11.2011 16:32 by Marzy )

My immediate reaction when I first saw the final boss:

I've beat him now.
