Tried the 3DS at Best Buy. Some flying game.
It was 3D, all right. It was probably just because I couldn't possibly care less about the game I was playing, but I wasn't as blown away as I thought I'd be. The 3D was cool, but as it was, it was basically little more than a visual effect. It adds more depth to the game, which is great on its own, but I'm really interested in seeing developers actually USE it. Maybe do things they might not have done otherwise.
Of course, caring about the game would help. I'm sure depth perception alone will make something like, say, Resident Evil that much better, haha. But after that first impression (which again, was a game I don't care about and I had to crouch to see at all because they practically had the system nailed in place on a tiny stool) I'm actually more excited about playing portable games on par with the Xbox than seeing said games in 3D.
I'm sure Zelda might change my mind, though. then I'll be all over that third dimension, haha. And not having to hunch over like I'm bracing for an earthquake might be helpful, too.
