Played the 3DS for the first time today at a Best Buy. I'm a bit underwhelmed, honestly. I'll be waiting to buy it for sure now. Probably still buy one this year -- but I'm already looking forward to a 3DSi with a better 3D screen.
I'll get the Bad out of the way first:
- That sweet spot is really narrow. I've read all the hands-on etc, but I was still expecting it to be just a hair more forgiving. I ended up turning the 3D off after about five minutes with the unit.
- Pilot Wings is very boring. Probably was the wrong game to try to sell the system with. I wanted to play Street Fighter!
The Good stuff:
+ The 3D does work pretty well; its subtle and pleasant. However, I don't know how often I'll use it considering the small 'sweet-spot' requirement. It also made me uncomfortable pretty quickly -- but until I get my own unit I'll blame that on me continuously fiddling with the 3D slider. I really do like the added depth, I just hate getting the cross talk whenever I move the system.
+ I love the little circle pad. Feels like a dream to the touch, and slides smoothly. Nintendo should have done this ages ago, as its just about perfect!
+ Build feels great. It feels almost identical to a DS lite. Not sure I like the multi-tone color, but it is eye-catching.
I'm still excited about the system, but I'm really hoping that the screen technology improves and Nintendo can put a better one in for the 3DSi.
