A took a leap and pre-ordered one earlier today.

I'm getting Rayman Origins and Wipeout 2048 with it, along with an 8GB card.

Unexpected, Marzy. No Uncharted?

I'll be getting that later, probably when it comes down in price a bit.

Gravity Rush looks great, as well.

I just sold about 6 titles and got about 140 for them. Tempted to get one, but I would prefer a ps3 over the vita. cheaper and a better library. Or I will use it for upcoming games.

So, anyone getting a Vita on launch?

Nope, I have the money but I have more than enough to be getting along with for the time being. I'll wait for more software or a lower price.

I'll definitely have one for Persona 4: The Golden though, but chances are that won't be out for ages.

I'm getting a Vita at launch. My psn is Nintendo_Gamer so feel free to add me alright.

I'm getting one now because I've gotva feeling vita's sales will do just as poor if not worse than the 3ds at launch...which means HOPEFULLY sony will offer some sort of reimbursement program after the quick price drop like Nintendo did with Ambassadors, or mayhaps they'll have special sales on psp downloads for the first week or so since sony is dumb enough to force use to rebuy our umd titles AND a new memory stick program.

But maybe sony won't be that humble at all & I'll have wasted $250 for nothing...

If the price was just £220 for the system I would pick one up. It's the fact that I have to get the console, a game or two and then a decent sized memory card. Its just too much to pay. I'd rather have a PS3.

I actually can't believe this is your reason for forking out so much on a games system. If the reason you're getting it is for hoping the thing bombs and you get free games, that's a massive risk and quite an unrealistic outlook. I hope for your sake it works out though.

I went with this deal, Calum: Amazon UK

Best deal I could fine, since you get an 8GB card free and a game for £15. I picked Rayman Origins and bought Wipeout 2048 separately from Choices UK.

Yeah, its the fact that I have HMV store credit more than anything Smilie I'll wait a while and see what it does. I'm still not convinced yet on this handheld generation.

I played the 3DS a few months ago and it was a nice piece of kit, and how the interface worked was brilliant. Its got much better launch titles too.

Well I'm also a HUUUUUGE Uncharted fanatic Azuardo so I'm getting Golden Abyss & Ninja Gaiden at launch as well.

The freebee bonuses are just HOPEFUL icing on the cake.

Sony did lower the price of the PSP go, and gave 10 free games away, but only to new purchasers. Early adopters got sweet f a.

I don't think they'd do anything different.

PS3 Query

I have an xbox and a PC, I've recently traded in a load of games and have around £160 on a HMV card. In terms of pure exclusive games for the console, would it be worth buying a PS3? I haven't had a sony console since the PSX days and I can't see myself picking up a Vita any time soon and I have a BR player. Primarily I would be getting it to play Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, Infamous etc.

If you loveable chums can persuade me, would it be worth going for a 320GB over a 160GB? I'm not sure how storage limitations work on the console e.g. is it install to play? Also, name some titles that I have missed over the years that may persuade me.

The other alternative is that I just use that credit for upcoming games which seems more likely. Don't want to be forking out too much cash on my last semester.

Neo Contra (£7.99/€9.99)
Noble Racing (£3.99/€4.99)

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (£7.99/€9.99)
Walt Disney’s Donald Duck Quack Attack (£7.99/€9.99)
WWI: Aces of the Sky (£3.99/€4.99)
WW2: Battle Over The Pacific (£3.99/€4.99)

Not the most amazing selection, but it's a start. Plus it has God Hand in it

I had a go at the Vita in GAME, played Wipeout. It's.. pretty good I guess, I can't see myself ever getting one though. I might do after the price drops.. maybe. I'm fully content with my 3DS atm though and I've never really been a huge Sony fan (They're my least favourite out of the 3 companies). There are some exclusives I would like to try out though, mainly Uncharted.

Playing Wipeout on the Vita really made me want F-Zero for the 3DS though. C'mon Nintendo!

Yes.

Yes. I have the lowly 120GB Slim PS3 from launch day, and while I have in fairness spent hundreds of pounds filling it up with tat from PSN, and loads of boxed games, it's starting to get pretty full. The way installs work is that basically, some games demand to make an installation to the PS3 hard drive. Now, usually this is never more than a GB are two.

Some games make much larger installs, like Skyrim. I think the install on that one is around 4GB. Many games require no installs. I'll have a look at the remaining PS3 boxed games I have, and list what the installation requirements are to give you a generic picture.

NO INSTALL , just a little save file:

3D Dot Game Heroes
Call of Duty: Black Ops (although the DLC eats up 7GB..)
Dead Space
Dead Space 2
Fight Night: Champion
Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD
Killzone 3
SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection
Splatterhouse
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

MODERATE INSTALL

Just Cause 2 (1130MB)
L.A. Noire (1315MB)
Red Dead Redemption (600MB)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (1GB)
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (1GB)

LARGE INSTALL

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition (6GB)
Skyrim (4376MB)

So there you have it. Most of my boxed games do not require anything other than a save file for your progress be put on the HDD. A few of them required a reasonably-moderate install. Most of the games I've had and sold which did require an install fell into the "reasonable install" catagory.

Then there's two of mine which require large installs. Skyrim speaks for itself, and we all understand why that would have a larger install than average games. However, my RE5: Gold is an example of a game with a mammoth install, and you just can't understand A] why it even really needed one, and B] if it had to have one, why did it have to be so huge?

This is actually answerable in this instance. RE5 standard I think already had a (unreasonably) large install. Then the Gold version includes two expansion packs, each of which also install as if being a download from PSN. No part of the expansions actually run from the disc.

But then, I know I've had other games which feature a large install, and for the life of you you just can't understand why it was absolutely needed. For example, I remember Duke Nukem Forever having an install over 4GB.

Generally, you pay so little for extra HDD space with new PS3s you may as well just get the 320GB. If you don't manage to put a significant dent in 320GB with your games alone - start putting all your films and MP3s on it, make it your media centre!

As far as installs are concerned, I think the state of installations across the entire board of the PS3 retail catalogue is generally represented by what I provided above, listing my own games' installation requirements.

When you're buying a game, look on the back of the box and look towards the lower-left portion. You'll see a row of icons representing the feature-set. One of them is a 'HDD' folder icon, and under it is the minimum amount of HDD space the game needs. Dead SPace 2, for example (which you'll remember requires no install) lists "3680KB", which is about 3.5MB.

From this we can deduce that the game does not install actual game data to the console, only save data. If you have two Dead Space 2 save files, the amount used will be 3680KB x 2, and so on. You generally don't even pay any mind to your amount of save files, etc. If you're having to do that, it means you've got way too much stuff installed and you're running out of space. Even on a 120GB HDD, the save files are inconsequential. It's installs and DLC that really eat up the space.

Well, as you know - Uncharted series, God of War series, Killzone series, Jak & Daxter, blah blah. This is a harder one to really put on you. Most of the games you'll be getting are cross-platform titles. With bigger games, PS3 has an advantage with Blu-ray. There are games that come on multiple discs on 360 that only require one on PS3.

I'm getting it this Wednesday...here's hoping I'm not blowing $$$ for nothing!!

Not to sound like a fanbou but....I'm REALLY GLAD to hear that news!! For me the depth you get with TRUE 3D makes games feel more real to me than high def textures & abundant animations.

Sure Vita games look good, but it's still a very FLAT experience just like on the ps3/360...I still need to get my ps3 fixed dang it...T_T

Yes but I was refering to the "HD is superior" mindset. I appologize for not being clear, a very FLAT HD experience. And the ps3's 3D still isn't as effective as what you get on the the 3DS plus it costs more as a whole.

Well, I've heard different. Plus, you're never going to be able to convince me that a small screen is better than a large one, 3D or not. 3DS games have depth.. 360/PS3 games have clarity, and also sometimes have depth (admittedly requiring a 3D television and glasses).

On topic: I've bought God Hand from PS2 Classics. Note - as they're on PSN for all to see, they do work on all PS3 models, even those without any kind of PS2 backwards compatibility. I'm not sure how they've done it, but I'm really impressed. I also have God Hand on disc for my actual PS2, and believe me, the emulation seemed perfect.

I'm interested in how they have managed to do this, since there's clearly emulation going on. It's like booting up a PSone Classic, all the same thing happen. You see the PS2 BIOS logo, you have the smoothing option and manual etc, you have to set up a PS2 memory card from the XMB.

I did a little search, and heard random tell on some fora that the way they did it was to recompile some part of the code (either the CPU or GPU functions, can't remember) to run natively on PS3, and emulated the other part. Don't know how true that is, but it sounds plausible. I imagine getting each game running is an individual challenge for them, so I see it much like the 'emulation profiles' used to run individual Xbox 1 games on 360.

Either way, let the good times roll. From my experience with God Hand emulated on PS3 slim, it looks, sounds, and plays perfectly. It's just exactly the same experience as it was on PS2 (with maybe a little clarity added via HDMI, but I used component on PS2 anyway). So, they've finally worked out how to do it, though it's not the full PS2 compatibility we all dreamed of where you can just put a PS2 disc in your PS3 slim and play it, but it's something.

Hopefully they won't let the range stagnate, and regularly add new titles. Obviously, having some big AAA titles on there would be nice, but the PS2 (in my opinion) is the greatest console on earth, offering as it does a veritable Aladdin’s Cave of titles. There's lots of lesser-known greats they could put up, too. The HD remasters of PS2-era games are nice, but where such treatment isn't financially-prudent for certain titles, I'd have no problem with them being made available as PS2 Classics.

But yeah, the PSone Classics range took a long time to really have anything near a good selection on the EU store. We're still missing Resident Evil 2 and 3. I set up a US account just to see what they have. My advice to you is to not do it. They have so, so much more PSone games (and I imagine PS2 games). Come on SCEE, pull your thumb out and sort out our PSone and PS2 ranges to bring them (at least somewhat) up to par with everywhere else. You can do it. The new stuff is mostly the same on the EU store, why not the old stuff?

One thing I'm worried about with PS2 Classics is us Europeans will get shafted again and get the inferior 50Hz versions of games, just as they continue to do with PS1 Classics here. I resorted to buying an Action Replay for my PS2 to make certain games run in 60Hz. Can you confirm/deny that EU PS2 Classic games are the original shitty versions we got, or the proper 60Hz ones?

It doesn't make games unplayable, but once you've played a game in 60Hz you don't want to go back. Just knowing that we're playing a version that wasn't designed to be ran in that way really puts me off, and I'm really disappointed that both Sony and Nintendo thought it was okay to shite on Europeans and offer 50Hz versions of games in this day and age.

My first Street Fighter III online match on PSN, which was ranked. I'm Ken, the other guy is Akuma. He dicked around choosing characters, waiting to see who I would choose. In the end, he went with Akuma, so I chose my best character, Ken.
