...
I suddenly have an inescapable and overwhelming urge to destroy something...
The game is now ranked on game rankings, and is only 1/10 of a point behind Ocarina of Time.

It should get that with many more reviews to come.
Including one from this very site.
You guys had better give it a good rating.

I have already taken care of that, , well I tried
.
Compared to mario and zelda, smash brothers gets a lot lower rating...i hope brawl gets top 3...then nintendos best 4 franchises would be in the top 5 (metroid mario zelda and smash)
Jeesus guys, don't give the C3 reviewers so much pressure ^^;
I'm sure they'll enjoy the hell out of it, but don't force them to give it a score they may not have wanted to.

Absolutely incredible. Who would have thought a game could ever get so close to OoT on GameRankings? & it has a possibility of becoming #1...
The greatest game ever made?!

James will be handling the review, but the review copy was sent quite late. Look forward to it.
The launch event is definitely tonight, for those in doubt. Think it might be on-going around now, actually.
And I have my copy. I'm going to play it now. Back in a few hours with a brief verdict.
EDIT: A few stars in: utterly amazing. The way you can run around levels gave me my first proper 'wow' Wii moment I think. I'm sure it's going to improve much more as well, bloody fantastic.

I preordered my copy through HMV as I had a lot of vouchers going spare, and it wasn't until this evening that I received my email saying the game had been dispatched so I guess that means playing it on Saturday is the earliest I can hope for, but probably Monday.
I really wish I had ordered it through GAME, or anyone better, because I would probably be playing it today -- can't complain though -- especially when I haven't paid anything for it.
About 2 years ago I would be really upset about this.
I must have grown up so much.
Or maybe it's just because it's not Zelda.
Anyone else preorder through HMV and feel my pain?

Having not read the rest of this thread for fear of spoilers i skipped to the last page (8) and i had to say that i dont really see the greatness of this game.
I feel like its over-rated so far, i dont see anything "great" about this game, yeah its good but damn, its not worth the money i paid for it.
The whole concept of the game makes me feel dizzy and actually pressing the pause button to take a break.
Whilst the game looks sub-par graphically the gameplay just feels tacky and gimmicky as per usual of most Wii games. However unlike Zelda which is a great game, Galaxy just doesnt feel right.
The score is ok, some of the themes are quite cool and retro jazzed, but for the most part i think previous reviews have led to a misconception on the music side.
I just feel like Nintendo left a wadd of cash on the desks of Gamespot,IGN, Gamerankings, as well as Magazines to just rate their game quite highly.
In other news GAME in Birmingham only shifted approx 70 copies of the game whilst Gamestation shifted 10. Poor early release if you ask me and definately not worth the over marketing that they did in the UK. I could believe that this propaganda they are throwing out might work, but will lead to a significant amount of people being dissapointed
OH MYY EFFIN GOD... WHO EVER WASN'T AT GAME TONIGHT HAS OBVIOUSLY MISSED A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY...!!!
So after leaving house around 5:20pm I went to the bus stop(shelter!) waiting no more than 5 minutes, my bus arrives, It was all and good until we reached THE STRAND... bloody traffic... so anyway 35 minutes later We (me and my bro!) jump off at Oxford Street in front of GAME, I see about 50 people there thinking "Oh it's not busy!"
What I didn't notice was the other 200 people, so I went to the queue and the security man tells me that that's not the end of the line "I have another look and I see all these people waiting, the queue was broken up because of a shop entrance!" anyway I get at the end of the queue, probably around 300+ people in front of me!
Half way through the line, they had a Wii and SMG, so I played for about 10minutes...! I probably waited around 50 minutes outside and about 15min inside the shop.
As I was waiting inside a member of staff asks me "Do I want my copy signed or not?" I replied.. What does that mean? Signed by who? He said: "By that guy!?!"
I look around and much to my surprise... YOU WONT BELIEVE IT.. IT WAS MARIO! CHARLES MARTINET
Doing all these voices, YAHOO... WOOHOO... Its'a me MARIO! <3
Anyway I got my copy *good times* I didn't get a Wii...
*bad times*
I got some SMG Notepads, there were no goody bags... apparently people have been queuing since 9am this morning so they ran out of goody bags *bad times*
I GOT TO MEAT THE LEGEND IN FLESH... *super fucking awsome out of this world good times*... HE SHOOK MY HAND! CHARLES MARTINET and SIGNED MY COPY OF SMG and one of the Notepads!
I got called a Loser by a CHAV You should of seen her haha fat ugly bitch with Primark bags!!
Dare I say... One of the best nights of my life!
I didnt get a goody bag but I got to meet MARIO So I dont care about the bag!
Now I'm on a mission to get a Wii!

WOW... I was speaking to a woman at GAME and she said the manager is calling all game Stores in that area to get all their stock.. because they only had about 500 games in GAME and the lady said there's about 700/800 people out here! So it might have not worked [marketing] in Birmingham but it has definitely worked in London!
( Edited on 15.11.2007 22:52 by iPwnd )
Shamefully yea, poor turn out in Brum. It was only busy for the first hour because there was only 2 members of staff working behind the tills.
I saw Charles Marinet around when NEW Super Mario Bros was released and got a signature for me and JB as well as a voice recording, and a picture with the legend

Ahh well Birmingham is alot smaller then LANDON innit!
Ahh thats awsome, It's so weird whne you hear him doing Mario's voice but there is no MARIO anywhere?!!?
Yeah unfortunately I didn't get to take a Pic with him... my brother got one but the staff moved things a bit too fast coz there were alot of people there so they needed to finish before 9... but anyway I got to touch the legend and he signed my Mario game!
Also there were quite a few people there dressed up in Mario costumes and there was one TOAD.. and I saw Dr Mario, 3 Link's and a FAT Princess Peach!
But nobody WON A WII AND SMG?!?!
Also there was a camera crew there filming and interviewing fans!
So yeah it was a pretty good night!
I got a signed copy of NSMB too, but Charles would never come to a little place like Cornwall.
Damn iPwnd, it sounds like you had an incredible time, I would have loved to have shaken hands with Charles Martinet, having a signed game isn't good enough
& Flynnie... I don't think Nintendo paid ALL of the reviewers than have given the game 10/10 or 95%. That would be a hell of a lot of reviewers to pay. I'd say 9/10 of them Nintendo has never heard of.

I KNOW... I loved it!
He shook my hand and said.. HI HOW YOU DOIN (typical American voice!) I said yeah i'm good, yourself?
He said in Mario voice... IM'A FIINE! I WAS LIKE OMFG I THINK I JUST WET MYSELF *I thought that, I didnt say it to him!*
Then he asked me what should I write... I said I dont care as long as you write something... coz your a legend! He smiled..!!
So he done a smiley face top left corner... he wrote
ITS ME... MARIO!
WOOHOOO!!!

How far are you into it? I think it's a case of different strokes for different folks, but I was hooked at the first galaxy and I don't actually really like the previous 3D Marios (enjoy, but not to the point where I wanted to get all the stars), so it must be doing something right. I can easily see why it's had such high review scores and don't think it's a case of moneyhats being handed out - from where I'm sitting it seems like it genuinely deserves the praise. It probably HAS been over-rated in terms of hype - I'm not sure any game could live up to the amount of positive feedback and build-up Galaxy has had - and it remains to be seen if it's worthy of the scores. If it keeps going like this I'll be extremely happy.
The whole concept of the game makes me feel dizzy and actually pressing the pause button to take a break
It made me feel ill at first, on the tutorial level, but then it suddenly felt right on the first proper galaxy. I am still getting the odd bit of motion sickness which I generally don't get with 3D games, but it's been only very briefly so I'm hoping it'll fade away soon as my brain adjusts.
Awww I wish i lived in london...
...
Actually on second thoughts i'm glad i don't...EVEN THOUGH i miss the Nintendo events.
I knew it wouldn't be long before I started to hear negative feedback on the game. Really though, this game is perfect and fresh, what else could you want?
I really can find a fault with this game. Its so much better than Sunshine.
Ironic really. Had an excellent wedding gig tonight, got paid
Ive got past the first galaxy and had the first lil bout with Baby Bowser...Bowser Jnr sorry.
Just doesnt feel right to play a game that makes you ill...
Anyone know what that update does when you insert the disc?
( Edited on 16.11.2007 00:44 by Flynnie )
OMG!!! I havent been on these forums because i have been enjoying this game too much... i swear the only negative comments i have for this game are the fact that the camera is a bit buggy sometimes, and the underwater swimming feels kind of awkward, but lastly its because im afraid this game will be over too quickly... i wish it would never end.
I agree with Matt Casamassina in his review IMO this game is nearly perfect. I played for 4 hours the first day and got 20 stars, and yesterday i got another 10 in 2 hours. So for me the average play time to star ratio is 1 hour:5 stars
Flynnie:
I'm a bit confused by your opinion of the game, it seems to me that your disappointment's isn't genuine. I think the problem is that you're not letting yourself have fun with this game. I understand where your coming from with the whole dizziness factor, and you know what it might just be you. Because most people i know haven't felt so dizzy that it makes the game unappealing. In fact most people who have have been watching while i play (family/friends) were saying "Ooohh thats cool " or were otherwise intrigued by the topsy turvy planets.
I understand most of ur points except one, you said "yeah its good but damn, its not worth the money i paid for it." I don't know know how much you paid for Galaxy but i really think that is a terrible thin to say...honestly this is one game in my opinion that i felt was a steal for me. People coughed up tons of cash for Halo 3 Legendary edition, more than half as much as the Wii itself.
Galaxy is a normal priced game and if it didn't cut it what games are worth their money for you?
And i about that update, I dont know what the it does when you load up the game, it only took a couple seconds for me, i think its just checking if you are on the latest version of the Wii. Because for those who dont have Wiiconnect24 they have no way of updating through the net. The game had an update included on it for those who aren't hooked up to the web.

Primark Chav's Lady.
I thought you were going to say Miyamoto, I would never want to see Charles Marinet up close doing the voice, I never ever want to see that!. On a side note I am glad you had fun.
