ATRAC wasnt that a term used in the 70s lol Oh well Shame sony suck so much why dont they just use MP3 and then people can download stuff off the internet and use the psp as an mp3 player

That would be 8-Track.

Sony, as well as many other companies are using propietry data types. Its all about royalties and who owes who. Its the same reason there are 3 DVD recordable formats. DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RAM. It all boils down to "Why should I pay them to use their format when we can make our own".

So because sony dont want to pay royalties thet're just gonna invent a new type of Cds or w/e. Frankly i think this is very selfish. I mean come on do we really need another type! I can barely handle what we have got.

On a side Note I just started to look very closely at THE NDS and ill tell you It looks very chunky and kinda hard on the eyes. I mean in Reggies hands the DS is elegant and swanlike but it looks very chunky when i lok at it by itself. The SP however loked very sleek (of course it had to hold less) If the DS has to be bigger to hold more why dont they just make it bigger and nicer looking. It doesent look very ergonomic either i mean its gonna be harsh on the hands from what i can see.
your thinks please.

Sharpshot i think you are confusing two types of people. Leroy Zero was refering to the casual gamer the person who is'nt hardcore into either company or console they just want to pay a reasonable price to have some fun. You are Refering to those sony fans who think the Nintendo is kiddy all of leroys answers still apply to the casual gamer.

Eh RedKing I was replying to General Random...not Leroy. Hence me saying "GR."

And don't you mean thoughts?

Anyway, in Iwata's hands it seemed fine, it fits into his jacket pocket, and I'm pretty sure they haven't made a different one for show at the conference, so I think it will be fine, as if it only looks chunky in pics of it, but looks fine in real life, in someone's hand, I don't think there's a problem then!

EUUGH check my time of posting 11:30pm LoL sorry about that must have been tired or doing something else at the time Smilie Smilie

Yeah Size wise it might be ok i mean it did fit in reggies pocket (or something like that) I guess I am mostly going on about 2 things one The probable wait of the machine. and 2 perhaps most importantly how it FEELS in your hands. I.e if my stumpy little fingers can hold it and wil it be comfortable in the palms of your hands (hence the term ergonomic If ergonomic has nothing to do with this then i apologise).

I take it noone has had a hands on with the DS then, Im probably just worrying about nothing, I cant imagine Nintendo would make such a fatal mistake as to make the NDS not ocmfortable to hold.

Ummm...just to let all of you guys know...Nintendo hasnt even released what the DS will look like...the DS at E3 was a PROTOTYPE thats NOT what it will look like and also the PSP has an optical drive (VERY EASILY BROKEN) so if you drop your PSP it wont survive the fall and the last thing is that Sony said that the PSP would be between $300-$460(USD) and Nintendo said the DS will be around $100-$150(USD)

also the PSP has an optical drive (VERY EASILY BROKEN)

: Do you know that it's easily broken?, have you tested it?

so if you drop your PSP it wont survive the fall

: Dammit, and I was so looking forward to dropping it!,

the truth is, this is all speculation,so is the price, it could be the case that nintendo make a flismy touch screen that cracks, or the flip up screen has a fault where it becomes loose, or something, We are all speculating, If the companies live up to what they say, speculative faults aside, I think the PsP will be better

PlayStation Portable may miss its March 2005 launch thanks to dev kits still not being in developers' hands.

Smilie oh this is going to be a big fuck up by sony

if so then one up to NDS Smilie

the DS will be around the same size as a GBA, when its folded up, about 140*80,
the PSP, I think will be bigger... about 170*100
unfolded, the DS will be about 140*160
they'll both fit in your pocket, except the DS won't when its unfolded.
the DS looks pathetic, but the PSP looks really sleek and cool
the PSP is more powerful
the PSP will likely cost 50% more than the DS
the PSP will have multimedia

do you guys know what the DS media is?
it was gonna be flash cards or something which would be cheap, but I don't know what the current idea is?!

The DS doesn't look pathetic, and read the post above, a prototype. If the name isn't even set in stone yet, then I wouldn't worry about the design yet. Plus Nintendo always make very durable products, so I don't see why they'd make the DS fragile, when its for gaming on the go. And if you drop the PSP, it may not fail, but you won't do the screen any favours.

And what if you drop the ds?

gastrian, you are forgetting, it's a nintendo product, which means that it will never be dropped, by anyone... EVER. and it's probably got techonology that stops people from dropping it...obviously, whereas keeping hold of the PsP is humanly impossible seeing as sony have skimped so much in production and have indeed made it out of lard, and to keep it stable you need to have a 3 man operated stabalising arm, attached to a large truck, which can be purchased from sony via their website, this will only run on Sony fuel and driven by a specialised sony driver.

**I editted because no matter how totally sarcastic the previous incarnation was, I had to make it even more so***

The new NDSSmilie edition brings innovation into the portable market by equipping each unit with its own personal parachute.

The new PSP:LW edition. Now equipped with lead weight to make it even harder to hold.

the NDSSmilieP can be folded TWICE for some reason which means its great.
it can be connected up to your GC, GBA, GPS, BNP, RSPCA and the GBA, GBA SP and the PTA all at once to get a really good gaming experience
unfortunately this means online will be scrapped, gutting hey?, ah well, we're great

the PsP:LWSE is made from a peice of ryvita, and the screen is just a square of sugarglass with a face drawn on with biro.

Well I'd like to request that the recent spam regarding the DS stop because it's clogging the forum with useless posts.

I think I will be giving both of them their chances because they both look like good machines. But Nintendo has made a point by stating that in the past there have been companies with more powerful units, bigger screens and better technology and they still were knocked out of the race. It should be interesting to watch and I'm not in the position to call anything shit right now because I haven't touched it. I personally like the way they both look, I don't care if it's futuristic and when people argue that they'll get a PSP because it looks better it's kinda anoying.

Well if it's folded the screen should be ok, and Nintendo have probably slipped in bouncers on it, to keep it operating and unscrathed...as well as make it bounce up and down or a EMP to destroy any PSPs near by, to take the competiton down with it, should it break.

That's the point, me and gastrian are just pointing out how ridiculous some of the stuff sounds, its pure speculation what each does, and there's no point really saying it'll be fragile and stuff because we don't know yet. we haven't held one let alone put it through rigourous damage tests to see how they fare, theres no point saying that it plays well/badly, or that its easily broken, when all we have seen is screenshots.

so, on that note, I think the graphics on the PsP are better, therefore in my eyes, the PsP is leading

Hopefully there'll be playable units of both the DS and PSP at ECTS this year, and just so we can finally have an answer I'll drop them both on the floor.

Yea, thats why I LOVE superman 64 over Super Metroid and A Link To The Past, because that graphics are just so much better...

And I'll scrath both screens with my keys and see which one was easier to damage, and therefore will find the better console. Also its nice to see someone picking up on my worst game of all time!

yeah i never thought i would hear such a shallow point made on this site "the graphics are better so the psp is winning" I think Xerous one liner is all thats necesary to cover my shock.
Have they released spicifications for the psp and ds yet ive seen an older leaked version of specifications in a magazine but i dont know if these are to be trusted as they are kinda old. I never look closely at spicifications i mean the X box Is the technicaly the strongest out of all the current gen consoles but is it winning well ask bill gates X-Box profit brokers that question Smilie

It's just such an annoying, ignorant comment in my mind..."Well lets see what to get, well it's a choice between Superman 64 or Super Metroid, well obviously the graphics are better in Superman 64, thats my choice!"

Give me gameplay over graphics anyday.

Gods in His Heaven. Alls right in the World.

Yeah, there's nothing else to judge though, therefore it is pointless making such generalisations about the gameplay (No-one on this site has played both consoles) or the build quality, therefore the only thing that can be compared between the two is the graphics, the graphics are "better" on the PsP so far, therefore, considering we don't know what the gameplay is like etc on either, It's currently got a plus over the DS, so is ahead in my view.

well when you say it like that I kind of agree with you.

If we judged everything on the promise that it held, then everything would be overated, the proof as they say, is in the eating, and I can't wait to eat both these consoles, mmmm
