PS: The dude seems entirely clueless about SS, and that's no excuse. If your going to compare two new games, it usually helps to know a significant amount about them first. He clearly knows very little about SS, and like us all, very little about Skyrim due the Beth staying relatively tight lipped in contrast to what Nintendo have divulged so far.

IGN's poor videogame journalism continues:

Why Skyward Sword Should "Learn" from Skyrim

Richard George of IGN.com, you really are an idiot.

Fanboy quote of the day. People should read what he says on the subject. You might think he cunts Zelda off big-time due to Squidboy's reaction. In fact, he just makes some good points without being all "Zelda is shit" about it. Come on guys, as a series it's now pretty stale. It could use some improvements.

Nobody reading it would be idiotic enough to think so. Where do I imply he "cunts off Zelda?". I say nothing of the sort, nor would I impy so...

Were you referring to Richard George?

MY objections to this weak article:

1)His article is full of obvious shit which has long been churned over by fans.

2)He uses a series that has one sole great game to date, as the point of his comparison. He does so when numerous games within the -RPG- genre, have these elements, elements that are NOT unique to Elder Scrolls.

The Zelda franchise has many great games, in an entirely different genre.

His article is weak shit because for one, Skyrim hasn't been released, and for two, he hasn't played SS, a game which as Marzy correctly points out, has remedied many things including the open-world element, customizations and upgrades.

Right, I'm off to write an article called "How Zelda should Learn from The Witcher". I'll focus on how much I want XP in Zelda.

IGN farming for hits, surprise surprise. At least compare games that have been fully revealed and released FFS. Smilie

Funnily enough, he didn't mention Wind Waker at all in his article, which has almost everything he wants in a Zelda game.

I do agree with him that they should try out proper voice acting, and with the Zelda Team, a big and bold world would be no where near as glitchy or broken as a Bethesda game, obviously with better hardware will come bigger and more beautiful worlds, but we still don't know how big Skyward Sword's worlds are yet, but he's talking like he knows already. I'm sort of hoping they'll go down the Xenoblade route in terms of scope.

Highly doubt that Skyward Sword will have massive worlds like Xenoblade, especially after all the talk about the focus on content density versus world size and scale. The overworld in Twilight Princess was really big (for a GC game), sure, but it was really empty too apart from some holes or other places where you could get even more useless rupees.

My guess would be that Skyward Sword's world is still going to be big (duh) but every place is going to be packed with content.

For me I'd rather a smaller world with more content - a town or three that constantly changes throughout the adventure, more NPC interaction/side quests and post-story missions.

I do agree with some of his points - granted he hasn't played the game, but tbh I don't have that much belief that SS will take Zelda too far from what we're already used to. The premise, school and other story bits do sound very promising through - I hope it follows through!

I think we can safely say SS game-world isn't even close to the scale of Xenoblades, but then it doesn't need to be. The two games ultimately have different gameplay aims. Besides, awe inspiring scale doesn't immediately equate to a richer game-world, if anything, it makes it harder to achieve.

SS's game-world needs richness and depth in both it's environments and characters, something which Nintendo are capable of being very good at*.

Scale may have little use in SS, but I think -structure- may do, I'm reffering to the map in your mind the game will attempt to create for a number of reasons. From what I can gather so far, SS game-world resembles a cylindrical structure with three distinct levels, with Skyloft being a patchy middle layer. Something Nintendo's Nate said at E3 alluded to there being something more than just a few small islands above, he made it sound like there were large areas of land to explore.

*Wind Waker had one measly town, and it was tiny too, but despite that when I think of the great experiences I've had in videogame towns, WW always enters my mind, because it created moments hard to forget.

***NGAMER OUT September 21st***

The next issue will feature information on unseen SS levels.

I haven't bought an issue in years, but I'll be buying this, unless ONM issue features the same and comes out sooner.

Sorry for the DP.

With two months left there'll likely be a lot of new info floating about. Which means it's time for me to bail out into a media blackout. See ya all here on Nov 18th! Smilie

You mean after you've played through the game and exited your secret hideout without internet, right? Smilie

It'll probably be so short and predictable you'd be able to finish the game in a day (only joking...)

Can't wait to see more areas, weapons, mechanics and bits - I am excited but worried about how it'll turn out at the same time. At least the swordplay seems solid from what we've seen!

Not sure if this is old news but I jizzed myself when I first heard it. The Skyward Sword Theme backwards:

If anything bothers me about SS, it is this flipping music. It's horrid, like Nintendo have prioritised making it a gimmick over making it actually good.

This is Zelda's Lullaby backwards:

Notice how it sounds totally crap? Well, Nintendo felt like polishing a turd.

Yes and no. the reason it sounds shit is because its trying to emulate a wind instrument. And all wind instruments would have that weird "wooshing" sound if played in reverse. String instruments also sound odd as they have an ambient tapering off effect after the note has been struck. In reverse the effect is heard before, in anticipation of the note. The Beatles actually used that on a couple of songs. Can't remembered which ones...

Anyway, if you went and played the notes on a piano it would sound fine either way, because you would be playing the notes normally in reverse order instead of hearing the notes played backwards and THEN reversed. Got it? Clear as mud? *Phew*

End of music theory rant. I am not responsible for any casualties.

@ Ships

I've grown to love SS main theme, and I never thought I would.

On the subject of Zelda music, last weekend I went to Video Game Heroes at the RFH in London's Southbank. The LPO played a Zelda Medley and Gusty Garden from Super Mario Galaxy Smilie, as well as other VGM classics. It was so awesome, I nice warm-up for the Zelda Symphony I'm going to next month. I'll do report and take some photo's for the site.

Okay, this is awesome art. Wish I could find a plain one. Smilie

Damn, it looks so fucking awesome, I made it my new wallpaper regardless of the stuff written on it. Smilie

@Shane

Wha, each to their own, I think that looks a little amateurish - rough around the edges. The product of GI's art team I presume. I do think the landscape composition is nice though.

Anyone seen/heard the cover art easter egg?(GoNintendo). If the games promotion is anything to go by, SS will have a ton of secrets to discover.

There should be a magazine or two featuring the game this week.

I'd like to get EDGE's review copy next month, I expect they'll have nice 25th cover.

Hmm, I haven't seen any Loz: SS bundles advertised/promoted in any gaming shops in the UK. Anyone know why this might be (I know it's on amazon)?

( Edited 11.09.2011 15:37 by Cheesing it up )

It's advertised on the GAME website, so it should be available in stores, although they're usually £10 more expensive.

A spoiler warning here! New Skyward Sword footage. Oh my goodness, it looks and sounds absolutely beautiful!

That music sounds amazing and there's only a small portion to hear. The visuals are also looking gorgeous, especially those particle effects and such.

So excited for this, but definitely don't want to spoil too much now.

I'm bowing out of all discussion starting now. I'll read interviews on Wii.com and grab a mag or two, as is the custom for me, but that's it. I've seen all I need to.

The excitement of seeing things for the first time in-game is too precious.

o-a-o

So much about this game was released today, and I know a few details, but I won't spoil it for the, ooh look someone's being pulled over for speeding.

Yeah, as I was saying I won't spoil it for those that don't want to know, I won't even tempt them.

I'm just excited to see where they're going to go with this Zelda! Princess Zelda reminds me so much of Marin with her design. To me it looks like they're taking it back to some old school roots. I already pre ordered my copy! I can't wait to see what's up!
