The bold is where you're wrong. Even those who aren't necessarily big Sonic fans have enjoyed Unleashed, quite a few people I know infact. Not only that, but as a huge Sonic fan myself, even I can tell the difference between a game that's horribly flawed, and a game that's good.
True that the game can be enjoyed by all, but only the pure Sonic fans will say its brilliant or great. It's just... good, or ok.
Sonic Unleashed is by far the least flawed 3D Sonic game ever made. Game breaking glitches aren't present, and other glitches require a lot of trials and error to do properly.
Well Sonic Team did SOMETHING right at least.
Sonic fanboys will tell you they enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2006, but even those who hated those games could very possibly like Unleashed a lot.
This is obvious. Unleashed, though good/average, is still FAR better than 06, which is by a long shot the worst sonic game every created, and arguably the abomination of video games.
That and Unleashed simply has to be praised for finally doing something great with the daytime gameplay, even though the nighttime gameplay is very arguably game breaking.
That's its problem. Take out the night time bs and there we go, standard Sonic is back, automatically an 80%+, but Sonic Team will never see that these miserable gimmicks do not work. There was only one gimmick that ever truly worked for 3D Sonic...
One last thing, I never said Unleashed was brilliant, I said it was great, especially for Sonic fans. It's far less broken than the original Sonic Adventure games, which everyone somehow loved. No huge camera problems other than with werehog, and instead of the Emerald hunting/shooting/fishing gameplay slowdown, we have werehog, which does have some perfectly decent platforming sections.
I know you didn't say that, but i think you're giving it a bit too much credit. It did get a little stale after a while, and the night stages were just a miserable turn-off.
Anyone who tries to argue that Adventure is far superior needs to greatly consider these points, or they risk being seen as "blinded by nostalgia"
Chao. Despite being the polar opposite of what Sonic the hedgehog is about, it worked, and it worked well.
I'm not saying the adventure series is better, hell that was probably a little overrated actually. But Chao worked; better than warehog, better than Silver, better than vehicles and swords/guns, better than a 3 man team, and better than any other useless gimmick that i cant remember right now.
PS. I think Twilight Princess is pretty overrated. Great game but only got the reviews it got because it's a Zelda game.
I dont think TP gets the respect it deserves. It is a lovely Zelda title. Wolf Link, though gimmicky and unneeded, played well. The only bad points that stuck out to me were the easiness in some of the dungeons, dog Ganon, and the useless final boss battle which is so easy its unbearable (no seriously, i literally pulled out my gamecube controller and watched G.Dorf attack me, and he didnt hurt me, let alone kill me).
