It also depends which meaning of the term \"fan service\" you mean

Fan service as in ecchi?

Or fan service in the literal sense? (As in things to make fans go \"squee!\" such as Lucky Star\'s infinite references to other anime and MMOs)

EDIT: When it comes to rule34 it doesn\'t really matter what it is...

Yeah I know we've discussed it before but I don't understand how anyone can bear 20 minutes of it at a time.

XD I watched it in like...10 episode blocks during a holiday...same with Azumanga Daioh...surprised my brain didn\'t melt...

Hate that kind of fanservice, and I assume that\'s the type most people mean when they use the word.

LOVE that kind of fanservice, and that\'s the main reason I love Haruhi/Lucky Star.

I watched pretty much the whole series of Azumanga in one sitting...

Some of it was so sad (like the last few eps) so that\'s probably why I was OK. Also Osaka/Kasuga because of how surreal she is XD

EDIT: I\'m pretty indifferent about Ecchi, aslong as the manga underneath is good, like Love Hina.

I havn\'t gotten manga references from Lucky Star yet (only seen 2 episodes) but any references to things I know would make me squee. It\'s just a shame I already know about the PW reference in Haruhi. Although that\'s probably what brought my attention to Haruhi in the first place.

Nah, I'm annoyed by it too, I just thought Akatsuki mixed with Azumanga was too bizarre not to love. XD

Hence why I said Lucky Star is the epitome of fan service. It has heaps of both. And as far as the rule 34\'age goes I guarantee you there is not another anime/manga in existence with as much porn as Lucky Star and it hasn\'t been massively popular for that long even. Admittedly that wouldn\'t be fan service in the anime itself then but you know what I mean.

Not much for Anime myself. However, I occasionally dabble in the UK Ghost in the Shell (Movies one and two, and the Stand Alone Complex).

As well as that I like Akira, Fairly enjoyed spirited away, the pokemon series and have a soft soft spot in my heart for Dominion: Tank Police. It's like they condensed the eighties into a cartoon.

I use to watch a lot of anime... but ive been getting older and also been working... and so I dont have time to watch many movies, TV or anime... but the only one I watch regularly is NARUTO... and I'm hating the fillers right now... pointless time wasters!! I also read the manga... who would of thought Itachi was actually a......

Whyyy are you watching the fillers? Hurry up and finish them!

I know, the itatchi is a spoiler and sasuke dosent want to believe that he was a spoiler, and tobi is actuall spoiler who was also kakashis best spoiler!

I read manga more than I watch anime...I used to watch lots of anime, like pokemon, digimon, and yugioh, but I grew out of those...just didn't like 'em anymore.
My current reads include Naruto and FMA(I'm more of the Shonen type of reader) Naruto is getting pretty crazy right now; bunch of plot twists and junk. But I must say, Kishimoto-san has overpowered Sasuke by waaaaay too much. He even has mangekyo!
FMA is my favorite manga. It's got one of the best plot-lines in any manga I've ever read. I also enjoy the anime, even though it's a different story after half-way through. I even bought the movie!

DUDE. Could someone please spoiler that? We don't all like to download manga...

Current Anime
Naruto Shippuuden 59 - ahhhh I can't bear to watch this any further. So slow.

Bleach 170 - ahhhhh fillers and shit animation... ahhhhhh.

Macross Frontier - loving it so far. Excellent animation, great music and it has mechas! xD

Code Geass R2 - Loved the first series and the second one has started reasonably well.

Gundam 00 - well I just finished this and it was great. Can't wait for season 2.

Full Metal Panic - rewatching this excellent series, love it.

Current Manga
Lastest Bleach Chapter - though it is focusing on the past, I find it very interesting. Get to know a fair bit on some of the character's past.

Lastest Naruto Chapter - Finally get to know the whole deal with the Uchiha + two brothers.

Air Gear - Around half way through the current sets of chapters. Pretty good stuff.

Pokemon Special - Yes, I was bored and read this. I actually enjoyed it... Nothing like the anime crap, people and Pokemon actually get hurt/die (subtly though).

What I look forward to the future
Gundam 00 season 2.
Nodame Cantabile season 2.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya season 2. (hopefully xD)
School Rumble San-gakki.

That's about it for me.

You're reading Pok�mon Special too? I've been looking for it for ages and it's one of my fave mangas XD it's just so great compared with the Anime.

Mm, Pokemon Special rocks. I\'ve only read the first 2 volumes, as I hate downloading manga. I\'ve been thinking of buying the volumes off ebay, it\'s released in English in...um...Singapore, I think...

Full Metal Panic - rewatching this excellent series, love it.

Just started watching that. Only seen 3 episodes, seems pretty cool so far though.

Streaming manga ftw. Zzz, now for the long wait as DragonGuard translates a chapter each week or so.

I'm up to volume 4 of Special now. I usually dislike downloading manga but I think Special is worth it Viz released the first 7 in America and they're still hard to track down... as for th rest from Singapore... apparantly altogether + shipping is a fortune.

Yeah, it is a fortune to import them all...well, actually, it only works out at about �5 per volume, but there's over 25 volumes, so that's over �100...

I just don't like reading manga if it's on a computer. So much nicer when you have the proper book. Doesn't make any difference for anime though. :p

I agree about manga, I prefer a book much more to reading on a computer.

With anime though I really prefer having a DVD. It's just that anime is that much more expensive than manga so you generally get more used to downloading it. Not to mention some Anime is much harder to find, and Western DVDs have the subbing/dubbing all wrong etc.

For example, while the original series of Naruto has swearing etc in it, the "uncut" DVDs were just subbed to go along with the dubbed words, so while the Japanese swearwords are still said, the subtitles only say "Oe noe!"

Other than money, that's the main reason I avoid official DVDs. The other reason is that if it's a series like One Piece/Naruto/Bleach, the US version is going to be MILES behind the Japanese version. It's bad enough being behind the manga.
