8 games compared to the 100's for Xbox Live should be enough of a comparison.
Well that's ok to say, why didn't you say that first instead?

Pokemon is not for the hardcore... its JRPGs for beginners. And even if it was for the hardcore, it still adds to the kiddy image.Mario is a hardcore series (the proper games at least), but it also has a kiddy image. Any game that is genuinly good could be considered hardcore, because any gamer can enjoy it, even the hardcore audience. How do you define hardcore games?

Nintendo seem to be hidding ALL information about it.After 30minutes I thought sod it, 8 games compared to the 100s for Xbox Live should be enough of a comparison.Wo33eR said:As of August 2007, Xbox Live has over 7.1 million active users.Yes, that means that XBL has a larger population than most countries, such as: Israel, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand.... and so forth.... Nintendo Wii online has 8 games onlineSo your comparing users to amount of games? Yeah ok........
Nintendo regularly release how many "connections" It's Wi-Fi games get every week methinks - no word on total amount of users yet, but I'm guessing it's not because they're trying to hide their shame. Since release Strikers has been regularly getting around the 200,000 mark (not sure if the figures are just for US or not).
There's not really much point comparing - XBL is paid for so it comes off gimped in how many users because not everyone is willing to pay, or just can't afford it (they're probably homeless anyway). Wii is entirely free, so it has the upper hand in users to begin with as anyone can access it right from the beginning.
P.S. The comparison still didn't quite make sense. Once again you compared users to online games.

Pokemon requires skill especially once you reach the Elite 4. You've got to build a strong team, learn what type beats what and learn how to deal with different attacks. Sure once you've played one pkmn game you've played them all but for someone starting, no matter the age, it's a pretty deep game. (not including the lame, basic stories.)
There is a simple solution to the Mario games and Nintendo games that are generally easy, difficulty levels. Would it be so hard for Nintendo to add a hard mode to Mario? At least make it so that the bosses take more than 3 hits to die?
Same with Zelda; too easy is what most thought of Twilight Princess. With a hard mode, increasing damage taken is all that would be needed to make it a better game for the hardcore.
I dont know, I cannot see how jumping on enemies heads could be classed as Hardcore. As for Pokemon it is not much of a skill, but more of the ability to grind levels and items to take on the fights. That is why FPS games are usually classed as "hardcore" because it requires skill to react quickly, unlike pressing jump and aiming at a head or picking an attack in turn based combat.
I would say Metroid (off the top of my head) is the only hardcore game I can think of on the Wii, oh and Resident Evil.
How do you define Hardcore?
Wikipedia says:Hardcore gamer was the closest I could get.
Hardcore gamer is a term used to describe a type of video game player whose leisure time is largely devoted to playing or reading about video games. This type of gamer prefers to take significant time and practice on games, in contrast to a casual gamer. Many hardcore gamers pride themselves on mastering the rules or use of a game, although this is not a strict requirement.
The way I see it, a hardcore game is a game that's "enjoyable" & "genuinly very good". I can think of lots of people who would consider the Mario series (not including the party entries) hardcore games, because they're enjoyed, played & mastered by hardcore gamers. Mario Galaxy is being promoted as the true sequel to Mario 64, the game we've been waiting for. Casual gamers don't care, casual gamers from this age won't know much about Mario 64, apart from maybe the DS version. Hardcore gaming has nothing to do with what you do in the game, or what age rating the game is.
Is Final Fantasy a hardcore game? Probably yes. I don't see why then, that Pok
I see a valid point but I still wont agree that a high selling games automatically makes it hardcore. That is like saying if we moved the media to film, a hardcore film sport is 'thumb wars' because a lot of people play it. Hardcore should always define skill and the want for more of it constantly.
A hardcore gamer I would say is right, someone that plays games at a hardcore level. A hardcore game should be a game that tries to challenge a hardcore gamer into something that he cannot overcome.
Metroid and Trauma Center were good examples, not sure about the others (Trauma Center on the DS is a mother f^%
Wo33eR said:But I didn't really say that, high selling games are usually casual games, not hardcore games. It can depend though, on how hyped the game was, for example Zelda & Halo 3 got a nice bit of hype, & have had lots of sales because of it.

If you ask me, to put it briefly, a Hardcore game is a game that is genuinly good, & can be enjoyed thouroughly by hardcore gamers.
If a game gets a good review score, it may as well be a hardcore game, because hardcore gamers will read that score & buy the game. You'd be nuts if a game like Warioware got a brilliant score but you didn't buy it because you thought it wasn't hardcore. Capiche? So, the way I see it, Pok
