New update: got through after spending a fiver on waiting and going to toys r us, turns out i just have to send the wii console to nintendo and they'll send a replacement, although they won't reimberse me for postage and packaging, or for the fiver i spent being on hold.

Sucks ass, i'm writing a letter to send with the package

Right out of the box though!? ^^;

I guess a COMPLETELY faulty machine is rare, but come on! Smilie

The utter cunts.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Well, the shops are out of units, so really, the ONLY WAY to get a new/fixed one is to send it back Smilie

but why do I have to pay for a faulty product? or why do i have to pay to try and contact the bastards who, at 2:30pm, told me their offices were closed and opened between 8am and 5pm monday to friday?

They're making him pay for postage and a stupid phone call you numbskull. Any decent company would have a free phone line and offer to send a pre-paid postage label.

Especially given that there aren't all that many faulty units...you'd think they could spend a few quid out of their comparitively HUGE profits in order to replace faulty units and keep people happy with their company.

Oh, OK, well, dunno about postage, I'm too young to know about that, but all the times I sent my GC back, I had to call the hotline, I guess it was expensive but it wasn't for too long...

Well, it's a real shame is all I can say.

AT LAST!!!!!!!!

Dude I have exactly the same problem. Disc drive is faulty and everyone you ask says the same bloody thing: 'make sure the discs are the right way up'.

Belive me I'm every bit as hacked off as you. What are you doing about it?

Heya, welcome to C3 - where did you buy your Wii, out of curiosity?

Hello. I got my console from my local Gamestation, here in the UK (same as Synergy). They cannot replace it because all their remaining stock is tied up in pre-orders. Stock won't be available until Jan probably, but they can give full refund.

The alternative that they gave me was same as Synergy mentioned- send to Nintendo depot for straight replacement. The problem is they won't cover postage and the box weighs 3 kg. Costs best part of

Good luck with that mate, it's a shame to see these Wii problems pop up - it makes me weary of wanting to get one so early in the launch period now!

Check if ur puttin the disk in the right way round.

if that dont work then switch everything of unplug evrything and reconnect. power it back up dont put a game in just yet let it fully load, then insert game if it loads that means its working if not, then give it back and get a new one in exchange.

Thanks, it IS starting to beome an obsession now! I can't overstate the disappointment and frustration of being one of the first to get a wii (having waited and SAVED UP for 3 months) for this to go and happen. I must say though it hasn't put me off- it realy is a gorgeous piece of technology and I can't wait to get it again.

Can I also say- and I mean no disrespect to well meaning members here- it really doesn't help our situation suggesting the very obvious eg 'make sure it's the right way up' or 'try turing it off'. I'm sure I speak for Synergy too when I say we have tried EVERYTHING imaginible to get our wiis working!

Quite true Lucasisking, but spell my bloody name right! Smilie

So yet another update. I actually got through to Nintendo today, after 5 minutes of my life and credit wasted, they answered. I explained the situation and he said to me, and i quote, ' Well, we have a pile of Wii's here that need to be replaced. Unfortunatly we haven't recieved the shipment we were expecting last week, so it looks like we won't be able to send your new console off to you until after Christmas.'

fdhsjfah vordjhsuiogv

Not only are they not repairing my console but replacing it outright with a new console, it's going to take them till after christmas(not january or february but 'after christmas') to get it back to me!!!! THIS IS TO FRELLING MUCH!!!!!!

I went to Toys R Us first, they called their tech support people, who told them to call nintendo, who wouldn't answer so they said to me, call nintendo tomorrow.

when i tried and they didn't answer, i went back and got them to call them. When they got through, the nintendo guy asked if they could send it to them they said 'no we don't have enough space in the back to handle it for him as well as all the stuff we're getting'

and yes i did call from a mobile, because I am a student, and we don't have phones in our halls so i have to use my mobile.

So anyway, regardless, i can't get a refund and buy a xbox 360, i can't do anything to have a console for christmas. i'm absoultely steaming

No wonder it cost you

what do i do then? if anything? and i'm not as much pissed off about the phone money as i am about the whole lack of customer support side of it

Pack your wii up, take it Toys R Us with the receipt, make sure EVERYTHING is in the box, wiimote, games, cables even the instruction book, also if it was bought as a bundle take everything from the bundle. Take it to the customer helpdesk at the front of the store and tell them its faulty. Let them test it and find it faulty. Tell them you want a replacement, if they refuse or tell you to speak to Nintendo, tell them that you bought the console off them, not Nintendo and therefore you warranty is with the store not the manufacturer so you want THEM to sought it out. If they refuse ask for your money back, as long as the item was purchased within 28 days they can't refuse it, if they do take the name of the person who served you, the multimedia managers name and the stores managers name and speak to trading standards who can intervene on your behalf. DO NOT let them repair it, if you do then you lose any right to a refund. With the refund go by it somewhere else.

Other things, NEVER get angry, raise your voice, talk down to or in any way be abusive to the staff. That will make them more reluctant to help you and in certain cases can lead you to being removed and banned from the store. The staff are there to help YOU and it is often a faceless manager who's constrained them in rules preventing them from helping you. Treat them like you would want to be treated and you'll get better service.

thing is, because I didn't know this already, I've sent the console on it's own off to nintendo. It was my understanding at the time that it was the returns policy of Toys R Us that i have to talk to the manufactures first. At least that's what I read on the 'returns policy' section of the board i was standing next to for 45 minutes.

They did test it, they did tell me it was broken, they then told me they couldn't replace it and that i should talk to nintendo for a replacement as they didn't have any.

Do you have a receipt for the postage? If you do then take it to Toys R Us to get it reimbursed as they are liable for all charges in getting the faulty unit replaced, including postage. If in doubt speak to trading standards.

Hey Psynergy- sorry about the name spell, mate.

Like you say, our retailers didn't explain the returns policy properly- I probably would have sent mine off earlier but I thought Gamestation were passing the buck & wasted time arguing with them.

To be honest, I can't be arsed sending it back to Nintendo now. Going to wait now until Gamestation get a new one in and swap it. If I find another one in the meantime- I can get a refund.

Its going to mean a wii-free Christmas but hey, I waited this long.

Seems like you & me (Im sure there are others) are just bloody unlucky. Lets just hope Nintendo are prepared to compensate us (I wont hold my breath).
