Last Friday saw the new Nintendo DS Lite launch across Europe for just
Rather underwhelming if I say so myself
I can't believe it didn't do better, but at least the brilliant DS game sales will make up for it!
Not at all surprising...
-it's the UK
-the world cup is on
-most people who want DSs already have them
-if the cosmetics put them off in the first place they'll have bought PSPs by now and not want to buy another system
Yeah, odd time to release a new console but it seems to have upped software sales which is swish.
Dont forget its not just about sales...its about image.
Which is so much more important in the long term.
IANC said:
Dude yuor totally awesome. And i won't be killing you anytime soon.
Yeah, Nintendo look like ponsey wierdos now because they put those horrid uber-gay lifestyle pics on the sides of the display boxes.
Morons, so out of touch...
well, not too bad I think. Anyway Slydevil has a point here, the long term is the real target.
In all honesty, if I didnt look for gaming news on the internet I wouldn't even know a DSlite had been made.
Seen no adverts, no-one talking about them etc. I haven't been in a game shop for quite some time now.
Got to do better Nintendo...

Same for me with everything nintendo ever makes or does ever.

Got to do better just becuz you say so? I've seen more than enough Nintendo Ads. Heck, I've seen the DS Lite ad twice in half an hour! That's more than good enough for me
Never seen a DSLite ad?! Now I never watch TV (about once or twice a week usually) but I've seen the new Nintendogs ad tons & tons of times, & I've seen the Mario Bros ad twice, & I alsways see the sponser ads for C4 & Five...
Even dorky here has seen it, that says enough Just kidding Sought, just kidding
Well it ain't that bad but they had to release it now because no one would want an update of an handheld console when the Wii, PS3 and Halo 3 launch. But has been previously said it is the long term implications that count having A Wii & DSlite console combo would be amazing thing to have.
I wonder what is selling better DS or PSP?
I think the DS is actually selling a quite a lot more worldwide, I know it is in EU, but I don't know about US or JP, I think PSP might be winning in US.
Hmm, hardly a reflection of Japan is it?
Not to worry though, I bought one, and thats all that matters.

DS was slightly ahead of the PSP total in the US before the DS Lite launched. It's MILES ahead in Japan, and supposedly slightly ahead in Europe as well.
Yep, the DS is succesful everywhere, that's what counts. It may be pretty much even with the PSP in the west, but not enough to hinder the prospect of lots of good games making it over here.
It was a bad time to launch the lite, but it couldn't have been earlier, and I think we can all agree that we wouldn't have wanted it later.

Same here too. Seems the only advertising they do is TV advertising; and I don't watch tv.
Seriously, you can't please some people. Nintendo do print ads, cinema ads and viral advertised and are bollocked for not advertising enough on TV. They advertise on TV and it's still not enough.
Ninty are advertising now on TV heavily, doing the comedy tour around music fetsivals again, they are actually being pushed in game stores now and are selling games in the UK to a degree they haven't in 2-3 game generations. Their ad campaigns seem to be working...
When I told some guys in my class I was buying the DS Lite one of them was immediately like Nintendo always do that, and he said the PSP sold much more than the DS and that's why they do a redesign, but probably no one would ever buy it. I then told him DS was outselling the PSP by a longshot worldwide, especially in Japan, and he immediately said: Yeah, all those pokemon-horny japanese people always buy everything branded Nintendo...
The ignorance of the casual gamers...
and I dont watch tv.
What are you nuts the World Cup is on and Argentina are unbelievable to watch and you get the usual English nonsense of 40 years of hurt..... oh wait i see why you don't watch TV.
Anyways i was wondering which sold better last week b/w the DS & the PSP in the UK. I am nearly 100% sure the DS is leading in nearly every big country. In N.America the DS has around a 250k - 300k lead over the PSP but the PSP has been ever so slightly selling more for 6 months now but in the UK the DS also seems to have a slender lead but on main land europe the DS seems to have a substantial lead in Spain, France, Italy and germany and even in Australia the DS seems to be leading if you look at the software charts and Japan needs no explaining.

Where? I've never seen a cinema ad, or a print ad (outside a games mag). I have a good immune system too, obviously..

Football is shit and boring.
I take it Msenysak is the upbeat and joyful moderator of C3
I'm surprised it didn't sell more! I think the sales would have been higher if they bundled it with new super mario bros.
I agree that it would have sold more if bundled with mario bros. but i think that everybody who has one will show others and it will sell via word of mouth as oppose to public want as most will find it hard to justify buying a new one if they have the old one already.
