I was thinking about this, I mean, when the GBA started to slow down in momentum, Nintendo released the SP version which pushed sales one hell of a lot for Ninty. I can't help but think that it was more reinstating style rather than the original advance's problems. The backlight was just a very big bonus.

I'm kind of a little worried Nintendo might one day re-release the DS as another special project. I just know I'd end up getting one, even though I'd be wasting money.

That's where I'm waiting for actually!

They will.

I never bought an SP, due to its exactly-the-same as the GBA status. You would be a little gullible to fall for the same thing twice, though Smilie

I personally like the idea of SP's.

Some many people say it's a cash cow, this is far from the truth, it's releasing technology they originally wanted to include but for production/cost reasons wasn't viable - of course the multi-colour releases found on any console/system are cash cows.

If they bring out a DSSmilieP then it'll have some good extras Smilie

That and I plan to end up buying a few DS's in the coming years.

You know nintendo are going to do some tribal DS things to make greyness not seem as bad

They could have easily included a backlight with the GBA. Show me proof that says otherwise, '10do Smilie

The fact that the batterys costed too much and to include a light also would have set the consumer

Abacklight wouldn't damage the battery life too much. Do you not remember the backlight mod for the GBA? You get buy in a backlight kit for the GBA for around

Three hours is alot and back then battery's were far more expensive. Also you have to think about including the light maybe

There's no way I'd get a SP DS, unlike the GBA there is very little to improve and worth to fork out for.

and they might as well improve the battery life while they're at it!!

and it could have multimedia capabilities built in.

so turn it into a PSP?

No...

Use the media capabilites already being devoloped for the DS as a built in feature, thereby allowing people to watch their own movies and listen to their own music on the DS, legally as long as they own the album or movie on DVD (if the same rules as for ROMS apply, and I see no reason why they wouldn't), instead of having to fork out silly amounts of their hard earned cash to buy their collection of media all over again for the sake of Sony's stubborness to stick to their precious bloody proprietary formats.

I'd say there's room for improvement, besides an obvious redesign, Nintendo could include a better battery, use OLED displays, and upgrade to 802.11g Smilie

Wow, the NDS already has great battery life, just think if it did get a better battery and OLED displays.. DAMN!

Who are we? We are the Knights who say..... "Wii"!

OLED? What are they? and I find the baterry life just fine. but longer would be good.

An upgrade to 802.11g would be pointless, as the current wifi is already much faster than the best ADSL broadband. The problems this would reate would outweigh the benifits.

msenyszak: you're right, it would be pointless (somewhat). I was trying to find something else that could be improved. Who knows, by then, 802.11g may be cheaper to implement than B. Though G offers backwards compatibility with B, some people choose to have their G networks only accept other G devices for B devices cause a slow down to G devices. Also any upgrade to G would just be inevitably following suit with the rest of the industry as well.

Lowe: OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. More information here. OLED displays, today are mostly being implemented into mobile devices like mobile phones and digital camera screens and each pixel emits light where as LCD screens glow due to being backlit, or in the case of the GBASmilieP, side lit.

things that could be improved on the DS:

wireless range. (unlikely as could alienate original DS users perhaps)
brightness control for the screen (likely)
different aesthetic design (likely)
lighter, weight better balanced(possible from what I have heard)
battery life(likely)
firmware additions (pictochat etc)(possible)
reduced size(likely)

personally I'm in two minds, to buy a DS or not, I may just wait out, as I was kinda burned with the GBA Smilie

add a dammed GBA link port!! fer crying out loud, some of my friends dont have a DS yet, and some do, so i have to carry my DS and SP (bulging pockets are "Not cool"). i honestly don't see why the hell nintendo couldent one in the DS.

well im getting a DS on launch an if they bring out an SP i'll be f**** off, i dont have money to buy a console then completely buy a new one thats improved somewhat, unless we traded in a got a highly reduced price(cost price??) so that it isnt to bad, but paying for it all over again would be a drag, an then its price would plummet like the original GBA which u can buy for roughly $20 US now Smilie

They didn't include it as the DS is not the next gameboy. As we all know it is something completley different. The GBE will more than likley have one.

I find it depressing that everyone is so hyped at the idea of a DS SP when it hasn't even hit Europe yet.

Tbh I cant see that happening, but it might be possible to have a link port accessory coming out of the DS game slots...

If the SP was any good I would possibly get it cheap like I did for the GBA vesion, but I like the DS design to be honest, so unless there was a real signifcant improvement like multimedia functions, I would stick with the normal one. If I could just get ahold of one...

I guess it's just discussion Smilie
As for the GBA link port, someone once said (that i always remember) "it's not an all-in-one console"
