Are you still there ?

Or ... have you moved away ?

Or have you moved away ?

I didn't know it was on Xbox. It's also out on PS2. Why don't they do Mega Collection Plus for the GC? I always thought that ever since Sega quit making consoles, ninty and Sega worked together really well. I really want that Plus. I'm really ticked off!

Meh, they're nearly all on GameCube - SMC is now player's choice and the GameGear games are on Sonic Adventure DX. Nice to see xbox is last. Smilie

Maybe Sega will take their shit 3d hedghog games over to X-Box now and just make their good games for Gamecube.
X-Box did get it pretty sweet.
Although on ALL formats where the hell was Sonic CD. I mean what the hell were sega thinking!?

To be fair, Sonic CD isn't that good of a game... with Sonic Team working on other projects, a couple of Sega employees rushed Sonic CD together in a couple of weeks, re-using Sonic 1 sprites, in order to make a flagship game for the Sega CD. The game actually feels rushed; badly designed levels, which seem like a cheap hacked version of a sonic game, items like rings and boxes placed in walls Smilie and bosses that can be destroyed in one hit. The first time i played it it crashed 3 times in an hour Smilie If you don't believe me, check out the reviews on http://www.gamefaqs.com

Comix Zone and Ficky have nothing to do with Sonic...although Comix Zone was fun to play, and Flicky is dangerously addictive...

What games are those?

I think he was refering to SA and SA2. I've never played SA, but SA2B was good....

Both are absolutely stunning games which define this era.

Both are absolutely stunning games which define this era.

nah i played SA2 it isnt that great ,especially the KNuckles, tails and rouge levels there really poo

Oh dear god Beam. Both are mediocre games that are tottaly underwhelming compared to the kind of games we know sega is able to produce. Not only that but 2 of them are shameless and awful ports.

Then when they FINNALY make a new game it goes multiformat and is WORSE than Sonic adventure 2.

No Beam I will not argue with you about the quality of these games.

In my humble opinion you are not able to tell when a game is bad.

Wind Waker defines this era. Its revolutionary and vast.

Metroid Prime defines this era in the way it faithfully represents a modern super metroid.

Halo defines an era but sonic adventure dont make me laugh oh wait you just did Smilie

But Sonic Adventure was one of the first games of this era. It has a unique fusion of different, original platform styles all tied together in a way that had never been done before. It was revolutionary - and good in too many ways to list here. And as soon as it started to look old, Sonic Adventure DX perfected most of its faults - so we can continue to enjoy it forever. And Sonic Adventure 2 Battle has some of the best multiplayer ever.

but how come when i played it in 2 player i got bored after 2 races and switched it off?

Sonic Adventure defined fuck all! Super Mario 64 was the first ever fully 3d platformer. To be honest a lot of Sonic Adventure just felt like a cheap Sonic attempt at Mario 64. Oh my god so they have fishing levels. In my world it doesent matter how many various things you can do in a game if they are all done badly. It was NOT revolutionary.

Sonic DX perfect NOTHING. After playing both versions all it has is the new games to unlock and even those are nothing special.

Sonic adventure 2 battle one of the best multiplayers ever. Sorry you must be joking. After so many rounds of each game the whole thing becomes very droll and repetitive. Sorry this game has no right to be called the one of the best anything. None of the 3D Sonics deserve to be the best anything. Especially not multiplayer. I wont even start naming multiplayers that beat the crap outta it.

Sonic in 3d has just never worked even Sonic 3D was total crap

Thank you Blade!

SA/DX defined alot more than Halo, I mean Halo. The most over-rated game in a very long time that brought virtually nothing new to the fps genre (multiplayer - goldeneye, co-op - Perfect Dark, Futuristic - Perfect Dark) - yes it is OK but it is far from the innovative, revolutionary and perfect game these M$ fans think it is!

If Halo defined an era then that is a very sad thing for gaming, fortunately it didn't!

Whatever your opinions of Halo (and imo, it was overrated, but still a great console FPS experience), it is still part of a collection of games that defines its era i.e. the games of the current generation that will be looked back on in years to come as representatives of this era's video-gaming culture. I should imagine it will be accompanied by games such as GTA 3/Vice City and Metroid Prime etc.
But no, the Sonic Adventure games don't deserve any place in gaming history. They're glitchy, unbalanced, unfinished, poorly-paced and almost unplayable in areas. They do have their moments, and there is some multiplayer fun to be gleaned from SA2B - but that's all. It's a shame; I've enjoyed Sonic's games right from the release of the original, but it's surely impossible not to be disappointed by his 3D outings.

Halo itself defines nothing, as I said it is an OK game but if people define the current generation on this game then it is a sad thing! Halo was far from perfect and brought very little to the genre, good game yes, defining most definately not!

The two other games you listed can define this age of gaming, Metroid was a superb update moving from 2d to 3d adventure, and GTA 3 (though also overrated) moved into the realms of 3d 3rd person so atleast had accomplishment - Halo had jack all accomplishment besides being a decent game, it was far from the best title for the XBOX.

I'd say Panzer Dragoon/Splinter Cell (and I hated Splinter Cell) were far better defining games than Halo, though the whole defining the generation is open to perception an interpretation. Still Halo was actually that great and it's a shame for other good games that get ignored over it. For me defining games should be great games but more importantly with amazing accomplishments.

edits. SADX moved sonic away from the whole 3d platforming style and took the game back to it's roots with fast paced 3d graphics. Some loved it some hated it but it was still defining.

Going back to some earlier points, many people think Sonic is so bad in 3D because they instantly compare them with the 2D classics.

Whereas this shouldn't be the case the whole time, the games are still excellent title, that I love, and are great fun to play.

Just because there not as good as the golden oldies, doesn't make them bad.

Agreed. I think the problem was what I mentioned in the edit. By moving Sonic away from the 3d platforming direction and back to the more classic style in 3d this invited comparisons. Both were good styles and fun to play.

I agree that it's not necessarily fair to compare 3D Sonic to his 2D origins; Sonic Adventure games should be compared to their 3D contemporaries: Mario Sunshine, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Rayman 2/3 and so on. And I'm afraid that the Sonic 3D titles still don't compare - even Crash and Spyro have offered us more rounded, balanced and polished 3D experiences.
SADX/SA2B are not 'bad' games; but they are substandard in terms of what we expect in this generation of consoles. Sonic Adventure can't even be considered 'defining' for the Dreamcast, as it was never one of the better games for that (excellent) console.

Yeah I see your point there. It did define Sonic in a strange way for me I suppose as it gave a better story/character to the series and managed to have the whole 2d style employed into full 3d. I stand by the fact that Halo defined jack all though Smilie

Defining is not the same as Innovating, though nin10do. Indeed it's questionable whether or not Halo really brought any new innovations to gaming, but it can - and will - still be regarded as a game that defined the tastes and wants of its generation. I agree that it's nowhere near the best game on XBox, but the fact is that it's perhaps the most instantly recognisable games on the XBox, and is the game that most gamers will instantly associate with the XBox. It has achieved a place in gaming history, though whether or not that is a good thing depends on your opinion of the game I guess. Smilie
