The Wii U launch in the US coincides with the release of Metroid Prime 10 years ago. Many Nintendo fans will have noticed the Wara Wara messages saying, "She's Back!" alongside an avatar of Samus. I wonder if Nintendo is planning to commemorate the 10th anniversary with a new Metroid game announcement during launch day tomorrow, Reggie highlighting the Prime anniversary to those waiting in the Wii U queue leads me to think so.

How do you think Nintendo should celebrate the anniversary, would you like to see a new Metroid game on either Wi U or 3DS, or, a HD version of the Wi's Prime Trilogy reworked by Retro?

An announcement of Metroid Dread for 3DS and Prime 1 as a surprise WiiU Virtual Console release would do the trick methinks. Smilie

Prime is one of my favourite games of all time. Easily a 10/10 game if ever there was one.

Second Metroid Dread. It's been 10 fuckin' years since 2D Metroid. Let's have it already.

No HD remakes or ports. They aren't gonna get me to buy a Wii U. Give me a brand new Metroid FPS. Hope the little hints point to an announcement but won't get my hopes up just in case.

Metroid Prime Trilogy HD would be great. As much as I like retro studios I think Prime 3 showed they were running out of ideas. Hyper mode completely unbalanced the game as well as distracted from the beautiful environments. The cheesy haloesque dialogue made it feel more starship troopers than Alien.

Its not like I totally hated MP3. The boss battles were great and Skytown was beautiful. I just think it felt too disjointed in comparison to the previous two games. Metroid Prime 1 and 2 proved you don't need to shoehorn in dialogue to create drama, Prime 3 and Other M proved badly written dialogue is worse than no dialogue.

How bizzare, i am doing a little Metroid-thon at the moment. One thing that bugs me is playing through Metroid II , i am playing it using my Gameboy player so at least there is some colour but i think it would be good to see it snazzed up to modern day standards. Probably good for a 3DS release but as they put it on the eshop recently i have little faith such a thing will happen.

Maybe these rumours might bring back to life the whole Metroid/Starfox cross over?

Interesting comment given to Kotaku's StevenTolito

"I think we will continue to surprise the fans with announcements and information. I would not go so far as to say you know everything in our launch window."

- Sir Reginald Fils Aime

I doubt they'd keep a Metroid game under wraps until 2 months before it launches. Thats just stupid in terms of marketing.

Highly doubt they'd have kept it quiet that they'd release a Metroid game during the Wii U launch window. Much as I would like it to be true.

Edit: Beaten.

I'm a bit worried about the state of the Metroid series overall, they seem to be acting like they're covering it up a little since Other M (which wasn't bad at all gameplay wise, just horrible writing and horrible acting)

They gave Kirby an anniversary celebration and not Samus! I thought that was very strange, poor Samus.

Yeah I read about that on nintendo life do you think its true...

Also JayUK I agree with you but then when do you think the next Metroid prime or on Wii U comes out?

I wouldn't bet on a new Prime style game anytime soon, Retro Studios are heavily rumoured to be working on Starfox. I'd personally prefer them to work on Metroid or F-Zero, and leave Starfox to Treasure.

If I were Nintendo and wanted to release a Metroid game soon, I'd get the guys who did Zelda 3DS to edit some textures, make the games compatible with motion+ and release them as a HD collection. While at the same time pay Ganbarion(developers of Pandora's Tower) to create a 3rd person Metroid game with a new subtitle. Have a 3rd person view on the TV and a first person view on the controller.

I refuse to buy a Wii U. That will change quickly if there is a Metroid title however. You guys know what I'm like for our space heroine...

Metroid Prime is one of those games that I had on my GC, and never really 'got on'
with. I expected an FPS game, and got something else. I remember having arguments with Graeme about it, haha. In retrospect, I have to believe that I just got the wrong end of the stick with that game. I'd love to give it another go.

For long-time fans, I'd say don't bother with another trilogy rerelease. It's not so long ago that the trilogy was released to Wii, right? Kind of pointless, given that the 'U (correct me if I'm wrong) plays Wii games, and doing a HD trilogy rerelease would also just be throwing egg in the faces of all those fans who recently bought it for Wii.

A new game would be nice, and/or flogging the Wii trilogy set at a dutty cheap price. I'm guessing it's way too late for a new Metroid game to be released anywhere near this anniversary. If they started it now, we wouldn't see it for another few years. Maybe just some nice snazzy Metroid menu themes for the 'U? Can it do that?

Just remake Metroid II Return of Samus! That will make a few people happy!

Could probably make Metroid 5 for the 3DS, or maybe make a compilation of all the other games Metroid 1, 2, Super Metroid, and Fusion?

Also what do you JayUK think the storyline will be if it is not a remake.

I think story wise the best way to go is a game set after fusion, then theres no risk of them messing up the continuity.

I'd personally go for it starting off with space pirates or the federation discovering the x parasite in the asteroid belt surrounding the destroyed SR388.  Have them take it to a planet, have it spread. Force the federation to revive the metroids to fight the X parasite by creating clones from Samus' DNA (she was injected with a vaccine, engineered from the metroid hatchling at the start of fusion) . The federation would do this because the x parasite is the bigger threat, it can possess humans which means it can spread much farther, much quicker.

This is good because it gets rid of the whole 'there are practically no metroids left in the universe after super metroid caveat' the series has been working around.  It also gives Samus another reason to wipe them out, as she's partially responsible for the damage they cause. It would also be interesting if the 'new' Metroids behaviour changed slightly having been created from Human/Metroid DNA.

Could even call it Metroid Resurrection as a nod to the Alien franchise

Great idea JayUK but I think they should still may some sort of continuation to Metroid Prime because of when the 100% ending is completed there's that video with some ship following Samus so I think they should continue Prime and Fusion. 2 questions, how old are you? and do you play Minecraft?

Corruption's 100% ending features Sylux's ship, hinting at Metroid Prime Hunters 2. I get the feeling the Prime series is done. After all the series is called 'Metroid Prime' because of the Metroid sealed away on Tallon IV, that evolved into Dark Samus. Dark Samus and Phazon were destroyed at the end of Corruption, so that seems like the logical closure point. That's not to say there won't be another FPS Metroid, I just don't think it will be directly linked to the Prime Trilogy.

24, and nope don't play minecraft.

Aaaah what a shame you do not play Minecraft I think you would like it..
