Looking for a new Wii Game? Wondering what titles are missing from your collection? Here are the ten games that Cubed3 Members think should be in every Wii owner's library.
I haven't played several games that are sure to appear on other lists (like Xenoblade, or the Kirby games), but without further ado:
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Okami (I think this is so high for me cuz it was the first time I'd played it (didn't have a ps2))
4. Twilight Princess
5. Donkey Kong Country Returns
6. Metroid Prime Trilogy
7. Skyward Sword
8. Super Smash Bros Brawl
9. Little King's Story
10. Super Paper Mario
edit: I'll give explanations later, really busy atm.

1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Smash Bros. Brawl
3. Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
4. Okami
5. Super Paper Mario
6. Red Steel 2
7. Wario Land: Shake It
8. Lost Winds (WiiWare game)
9. House of the Dead: 2 & 3
I'll talk about why a few of these games made my list.
Sin and Punishment: Star Successor is a hard-core game. Normal difficulty has been hard enough for me and I shudder thinking of the harder settings. In addition, there's an online leaderboard to encourage competition further. Above all, though, it's just good fun to dodge a myriad of bullets, shoot tons of enemies, and fight giant bosses.
Okami is one of my favorite games I've ever played. It's stunningly beautiful at times, the level designs are top notch, the world is interesting, and I love all of the allusions to Japanese mythology and culture. If this game was a Wii original instead of a port of a PS2 game, it would be even higher on my list.
Red Steel 2 has little in relation to the first Red Steel other than it is first person game with guns and swords. The style of the game is very slick. It is a cel-shaded mish-mash of spaghetti Westerns and Japanese ninja/samurai fiction (kind of like the movie "Warrior's Way," except enjoyable). The upgrade system adds an RPG-lite element to the game that is nice. But mostly, the sword and gun fighting is just a lot of fun.
Anyone remember Lost Winds? It was one of (the?) first WiiWare games really worth buying. Honestly, it is the only WiiWare game I have bought. This game, though short, was worth every penny.
House of the Dead: 2 & 3 is just a fantastic party game. It's my go-to game whenever a few people come over and want to hang out. The atrocious voice acting is hilarious and quotable. Two player mode is a blast, especially if you own a piece of plastic that makes the Wii remote look like a pistol. Importantly, it's easy for anyone to pick up and play even if they've never touched a controller. Wasn't that what the Wii was all about?
I haven't played these (probably) great games, so you shouldn't score them. I just list them here so people can see why great games didn't make my list:
Hmm...out of everything I played on there;
1. Okami
2. Zelda Skyward Sword
3. Little King's Story
4. House of the Dead Overkill
5. Wii Sports
6. World of Goo
7. Sonic Colours
8. Muramasa the Demon Blade
9. Super Mario Galaxy
10. No More Heroes
There were a lot of Wii games I enjoyed, so narrowing it down was quite tricky.
Okami needs no explanation, I loved everything about it, even if it was a port it still felt new to me. It's currently at odds with Persona 4 and The World Ends With You for the number 2 spot of my all-time, all-formats favourite games list.
Skyward Sword injected some freshness into the Zelda series and I loved the sword mechanics and the stronger emphasis on story and animations.
Little King's Story deserves far, far more accolades than it got, and the bland 're-imaging' of the upcoming Vita game serves more as an insult to the original than anything. Anyone lamenting the lack of a new Wii Pikmin title needs to try this game.
House of the Dead Overkill brought back awareness of one of my favourite genres; the humble Lightgun game, and gave it a swear-infested grindhouse feel of awesomeness. Enjoyed the hell out of this one.
Wii Sports, while being as graphically basic as you can get, got my Mum into videogames, and we had a whale of time with the Bowling game; it's on the list just for that.
World of Goo has to be one of the greatest downloadable games of all time, the fact it was made by just two people is staggering.
Sonic Colours not only stuck two fingers up at the dumbasses touting that 'Sonic Cycle' bullshit, it damn well headbutted them into the atmosphere. Easily the best 3D Sonic title, and a welcome return to the more lighthearted spirit of the franchise.
One word to describe Muramasa; Gorgeous. Seeing it in HD would be quite something, but even in SD it rivaled the best that the 360 and PS3 could produce, on art direction alone.
Super Mario Galaxy really doesn't need my clarification. If this were a 'best Wii games' and not a favourites list, it'd be in the top three easily.
No More Heroes is probably the zaniest title in the Wii Library, and when it released I had the time of my life with it. The retro stylings, the Beam Katana that produced incredibly satisfying finishing moves with the Wii Remote, the insane boss fights and plot developments, all of it kicked ass.

1. Okami
2. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
3. Little King’s Story
4. Monster Hunter Tri
5. Xenoblade Chronicles
6. Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
7. Muramasa: The Demon Blade
8. No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
9. Super Mario Galaxy 2
10. Metroid Prime Trilogy
Really? My Top 3 are exactly the same as Phoenixus'? I have a lot of Wii games I love, so ranking them is extremely difficult for me.
I previously had Skyward Sword as my favourite Wii game, but Okami has kind of become my favourite game of all time lately. Zelda is my favourite franchise and I love Japanese art/music/mythology and Okami flawlessly put those two things together and created the perfect game for me.
Skyward Sword perfectly nailed motion controls for me and it enhanced the usual Zelda gameplay in such ways that I never want to go back to normal controls. Doubt anything else really needs an explanation; it's Zelda.
I pretty much share Phoenixus' opinion on Little King's Story. I borrowed it from my sister at first but then got so addicted that I had to buy my own copy right away. Just so good.
I put over 600 hours into Monster Hunter Tri over only three months. That alone gets it a high place in my ranking because it clearly did something right to keep me hooked for so long. The online mode in particular was extremely addicting.
Xenoblade is one of the best JRPGs I've ever played and there's really nothing I could add here that hasn't been said thousands of times on the internet already.
I doubt most people here know of Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love, let alone have played it. It's probably as niche as it gets over here and I didn't quite know what to expect when I picked it up but the mix of Sim/Dating/Strategy-RPG works really, really well together. It's a shame that the whole series isn't available outside of Japan.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade has brilliant art/music, but what I loved even more was the gameplay with its fast-paced and challenging 2D combat.
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle can be described with two words, fucking crazy. Gameplay, graphics, music and characters were just all completely over the top and it's glorious.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is 3D platforming at its finest. I thought the same about Super Mario Galaxy, but I really have no idea how Nintendo is ever going to top Galaxy 2.
Not having played any of the Metroid Prime games (or really any Metroid game) before picking this up, this is one of the best game trilogies ever. The IR pointer controls from Prime 3 greatly enhanced the first two games and made them even more immersive than they already were.
Mm, I'm glad to see all of the Okami love.

Just wanted to bump this topic up. I think it's a fun idea and I'd like to see some more members' lists. Sorry for the double post.
Jacob, you haven't posted your personal top ten yet! What's your list like?
( Edited 07.07.2012 08:26 by TAG )
Okay, there's a lot of Wii games I haven't played, and I think I'll be struggling to get it up to 10, but I'll give it a go:
1) SSBB- duh.
2) Skyward Sword
3) DKC: returns
4) New Super Mario Bros.
5) Super Mario Galaxy
6) Kirby's Epic Yarn
7) Wii Play
I think I've ran out of games I've played that I've properly enjoyed...or at least enjoyed a significant part of. I didn't like Okami one bit. Monster Hunter Tri was dull. Little King's Story was like a rubbish version of Pikmin. Mario Kart was just...Mario Kart.
BlastWorks
Hmmmm top 10 in order huh? That's tough but I'll try, also I'm going to list mine by series instead of single title....unless it IS a single title. So for example when I list No More Heroes I'm talking about BOTH games together. Also also I'm from the USA so I apologize if I list a game that's not in your region or is under a different name, let me know if this is the case & I'll explain what that game is.
#1: Metroid Prime Trilogy
#2: MADWORLD
#3: The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword
#4: Final Fantasy III (FF6 SNES VC download)
#5: No More Heroes
#6: Sin & Punishment (BOTH N64 VC & Wii)
#7: The Last Story
#8: Xenoblade
#9: Super Smash Bros.
#10: Zack & Wiki

I'd feel weird counting VC games as Wii games. I mean, it's just a SNES or N64 game emulated on the Wii. Jacob's call, though.

Yeah, unless they've done some substantial stuff to make it unique to the Wii I won't include VC games. With the VC pretty much being just emulated ROMs, I don't think the games from it really qualify as Wii games.
Well alright then replace FF3 with Muramasa the Demon Blade but STILL include both Sin & Punishment titles because the Wii VC title is the ONLY way to play it outside of using a japanese N64...& I'd say that's pretty substantial.
1.Super Mario Galaxy
2.Super Smash Bros Brawl
3.Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
4.Sonic Colours
5.Super Mario Galaxy 2
6.Wii Sports
7.Tatsunoko Vs Capcom
8.Mario Kart Wii
9. Metroid Prime Trilogy
10. Donkey Kong Country Returns
11. NEW Super Mario Bros Wii
I know having the 1st Mario Galaxy at the top is odd for me as i outright dismissed the game when I got it on release, however i warmed to it, and retrospectively i think it was a great playthrough, whereas 2 didn't make that major leap that a Mario game tends to do. Nonetheless i still rank number 2 highly, but its incremental upgrades put it further down my top 10.
Super Smash Bros Brawl has by far clocked up more time than any other Wii game, but is that surprising, vast amount of choice and a wide selection of characters makes this game one of the best in the series.
I throughly enjoyed Twilight Princess, i think most people did when it came out, i think the wait made it even better, and even though i have owned Skyward Sword since release i still have not got round to even playing it yet.
Sonic Colours for me is one of the best Sonic games since Sonic and Knuckles, and to be fair has a fantastic soundtrack and looks great! Plays so well and is a Wii Exclusive (not counting the DS version).
The rest of my top 10 speaks for itself i think...and i can't be bothered to list anymore reasons.
I would say to all C3'ers posting to not take recency into to much account, try and cast back to how the game played when you first played it, rather than the last game you just completed as you will hold some sort of bias/affection for that game for a little while!
I don't want this to die yet! I'd like at least a few more responses before trying to put the list together. My top games list:
1) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
2) Super Mario Galaxy
3) Metroid Prime: Trilogy
4) Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
5) Super Smash Bros Brawl
1) Okami
2) Twilight Princess
3) Madworld
4) Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
5) Deadly Creatures
I didn't play that many Wii games, but those deserve the points for sure.
Hmmm, tricky.
1) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
2) Super Mario Galaxy
3) Mario Kart
4) Super Mario Galaxy 2
5) Super Smash Bros Brawl
Very difficult. Haven't played most of these for a long time, so hard to get a solid order. To be fair, this is hardly an order of rank at all -- more a list -- but I'll have to go with it.
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Zelda: Skyward Sword
3. Metroid Prime Trilogy
4. Mario Kart Wii
5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
6. The Last Story
7. No More Heroes 2
8. Super Mario Galaxy 2
9. Donkey Kong Country Returns
10. Super Paper Mario
11. Metroid: Other M
Not sure if you want to merge Metroid Prime 3 votes into just MP Trilogy. Probably the best way. So far, I think only bornforthis put 'Metroid Prime 3,' though.

Yea, might as well change my vote to MP trilogy. Same game plus two other awesome ones.
1) Monster Hunter Tri
2) Super Mario Galaxy
3) No More Heroes
4) Lost Winds
5) Cave Story
6) Metroid Prime 3
7) Super Smash Bros. Brawl
8) Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
9) Okami
10) Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Really had to think about that list, taking in all the games that I got the most replay value from, or the ones that had great story lines, and the games that gave me my first "wow " Wii moments. Just noticed 4 of the games on my list are from Capcom that's interesting.

Yeah, merging them into Metroid Trilogy is the plan. As you said, it only adds more goodies to an excellent game.
Giving this one more bump in case anyone else wants to post their favorites. I'll work on the results this weekend and try to have the list posted up by Sunday.
I would put my whole collection of Wii games to be honest. It's hard to narrow it down to my top favourites only, which I already did for our Wii Top 10 feature when we celebrated the Wii anniversary last year.
1. Xenoblade Chronicles
2. Metroid Prime Trilogy
3. Silent Hill Shattered Memories
4. Mario Kart Wii
5. Super Mario Galaxy 2
6. Okami
7. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
8. Muramasa: The Demon Blade
9. Excitebots: Trick Racing
10. Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros Treasure
And since then, I'd probably add The Last Story and Pandora's Tower into the mix. The Last Story would definitely have made my Top 5 had it been released earlier.
I don't regret any of my purchases so far .
Thanks to everyone who participated! Top ten now posted in the OP.
The best game won!
