This topic will track records for all 121 levels in the game (mission 4 is the same as 1, as are 3 and 5 in the kart stages, so use whichever is fastest of those).

Since the game is available on both Dreamcast and GameCube, I'll allow either system to be used (noting, of course, that there are some levels on which each system has distinct advantages).

The only rules here are that you can't use DD more than once at a time (if you don't know what DD is, then I guess you have nothing to fear) and that you can't pause-restart out of a level that you've already completed the objective in (plus the standard "no-external-RAM-edits", etc).

I'll try to beat them as soon as I get a new GC...or at least get mine fixed Smilie

While you're at it, also consider http://soniccenter.org

Three new times for me.

Death Chamber 1 0:27.72
Aquatic Mine 1 0:12.00
Meteor Herd 1 0:48.90

How long did it take you to do this Smilie

Kill

Completing the 100 rings mission on Wild Canyon in 23 seconds? I'm sorry mate, but I quite frankly can't believe that. Some of your times are so far-fetched it's unbelievable.

I couldn't believe it either...that run was supposed to be an easy 22, but i went the wrong way at the end and had to backtrack a bit.

Players on the Dreamcast version of the game have an opportunity to do a maneuver that doesn't work the same way on GameCube, for an edge of about 2 seconds, so think of that run as a 25.

Any other records you wish to refute?

Are you taking the p*ss out of me?

23 seconds in Wild Canyon is impossible. There is no way anyone could collect 100 rings in that time, even if you avoided all the robots.

In fact, all your Knuckles/Rouge 100 rings levels are stupidly fast, bar Death Chamber. The only record I've actually beaten on your list is City Escape Mission 2 - 0:45:52.

EDIT: Actually, after reading your update, your Death Chamber one is unbelieveable too.

No, I'm not; there are barely any robots in Wild Canyon in the first place; and you never have to come across any to get 23/25.

Here's the strat.

At start, there are 8 rings in front of you in a circle. Gamecube players need to run the circle, preferably starting up-right and gooing clockwise, but Dreamcast players can do a Spiral Upper here and the move will "reach out" and grab all 8 rings immediately.

Next, head for the wind. You want to be slightly left of the middle, and don't go too far in.

Why? Because you need to get out. Make sure you're near the edge of the "tunnel", and JUST before the wind blows you through the ceiling, you need to glide out of the way, and head backward. Land in the corner of the upper level, left of the starting point. There are 20 rings here. The time should now be 7 seconds Dreamcast, 9 seconds Gamecube.

Get the 20, then turn around and head for the nearest pillar. There's a 10 here, total 38. Next, fly across the gap to get 6 and bounce off the extra life to glide again. YOU DO NOT NEED TO LAND ON EITHER OF THE SHORT PILLARS; THESE WILL ONLY WASTE YOUR TIME. After bouncing on the 1Up, turn left and glide again, landing on a 20. Rotate the camera left, then glide into this stream of 8.

There are a total of 72 rings at this point; you only need 70, so you can safely miss up to 2.

In the 8 stream, DO NOT land on the opposite pillar! Instead, glide back into the wind as soon as you hear #70 (target 0:17 DC, 0:19 GC). It's time to go up. Let the wind take you to the very top, then the ledge behind you has a 20 and a 10. Get those and you're done!

Hmm... you seem to know what your on about, so I believe you. I'll try it as soon as I get my Gamecube back...

I was surprised you didn't bring up Cannon's Core 1 or 2.

Anyway, Hunting stage m1s are all about "Figure out which emerald locations are closest to start, look around the start to see if you find one, and if not, restart and keep trying until you do. Repeat for all three." Generally, getting a good time in these stages will involve restarting (or intentionally dying) a good 30-50 times.

And there I was thinking I was good at SA2B... Smilie

Just seen those Cannon's Core times!!!!!! How the hell did you get those????

My stats in that game are ranked #2 out of 57 players at http://soniccenter.org , and after about 6th place, they start looking a lot less impressive.

You might want to see where you rank. Probably not THAT bad.

Wow! Smilie

lol

SM's showing off his mad skillz again!

and yes, I do pretty much follow you around everywhere SM

hehehe

*runs into funland*

Ive only played this game once, and it was at my cousins house.. Didnt enjoy it that much!

cannon's core in 6 seconds, there is no way in hell that's possible, unless you're exploiting some glitch.

As some of the emerald challenges seem to be based on Luck, cause there is no way you could've found all 3 emeralds in such a small amount of time, unless you memorises all possible locations and did a LOT of restarting.

For Cannon's Core, click here.

Yes, that is a glitch. It's also perfectly replicable.

As some of the emerald challenges seem to be based on Luck, cause there is no way you could've found all 3 emeralds in such a small amount of time, unless you memorises all possible locations and did a LOT of restarting.

Funny, that's exactly what I've been doing. It's not hard, considering there are only 60 possible locations in each stage. Got a problem with it?

not really but it seems rather cheap that your records are all down to luck and glitches rather than Skill. What's your overall time? 100 hours +?

You should be pretty good at time attacking if what you say is true

Just goto www.soniccenter.org

Question for Masterhunter: What is "skill"?

And whatever this "skill" is, doesn't it take such a thing in order to figure out these glitches and tricks in the first place?

Hunt levels are much more than luck. Sure, you may see an emerald piece close to start, but how do you know it's the closest possible location? There may be an even closer one that's faster. The only way to know is to figure where each possible spawn point is, decide which 3 are ideal, and which ones are so far away that it's not even worth trying to get them--you should always restart. On my Aquatic Mine 12-second run, only 2 pieces were optimally placed--the third was grabbed on accident, and if it were in the right spot I would have 8 or even 7 seconds.

But of course, you blame a time on "luck". How, may I ask, would luck NOT be at least a bit of a factor in those Mission 1s?

NintenDan: Quit spamming.

since the arrival of the internet finding glitches is no longer a skill. There's probably a dedicated site (or sites) for those sorts of things, Knowledge is not the same thing as Skill. Neither is luck.

i refuse to believe you're a better Sonic adventure 2 gamer than I am just cause you know of a glitch I don't. In saying that some of your legit times (not using glitches) may remain unbeaten cause i just don't feel like going back to Sa2 right now. there's a reason why 61 hours is my best time for sonic heroes, it's cause I haven't gone back to beat it yet. Right now I have several games half finished that I'd prefer to finish first, they include:

Luigi's mansion - still to get an A
Rouge leader - still to get the majority of medals
Resident evil - still to get through invisible enemy mode either with chris or on hard
Super monkey ball - expert levels to do
die hard vendetta - stopped playing on prison level, still to go back
Eternal darkness - plan to go through 2 more times purposely keeping my sanity meter low
Sonic adventure 2 battle - still need to raise a Chao strong enough to beat Flash, the 3 other times I got 180 was on the DC version
PSO ep I & II - barely started it
Nightfire - stopped playing on the submarine level
Pikmin - not tried challenge mode
Bomberman generations - still to finish 1 player mode
F-zero GX - still to do the majority of story mode on hard and very hard
viewtiful joe - still to do with a perfect score
billy hatcher - still to finish, stopped playing on Sand ruins 2
Zelda collection - still got Zelda 1, 2 and perhaps majora's mask again to do
Puyo pop fever - still to finish
RECVX - still to do battle mode, getting A's with every characters other than wesker, open bonus weapons
Twin snakes - still to do harder modes and get all tags
Resi zero - leech hunter still to do
Metroid prime - need to start again to get 100% scans
Skies of arcadia legends - find the last 8% of the treasure chests
Animal crossing - barely played

PGR - still to do
Halo - harder modes still to do
TS2 - still to do
Splinter cell - still to do
blinx - still to do
MGS2 substance - harder modes and bonus missions
Panzer dragoon orta - PD1 and hard mode to do
XIII - still to do
GTA double pack - still to do both

can't be arsed with the rest, some PS2 and a load of GBA games, plus I'm in exam season right now. All have priority over this right now.

You still haven't issued what you think "skill" means.

And the glitches I mention are original: there is NO site that talks about them, except for the ones that I put up. Explain where you can find the trick for finishing Cannon's Core in 0:06, or Eternal Engine in under 3:00, without calling up a page of my own original creation.

Someone has to develop the tricks in the first place; someone has to come up with them without the help of "glitch indices" because they're the ones who put them on those indices in the first place. What do you make of those people?

And the other unresolved question: If luck is a bad thing, then what are you supposed to rely on in hunting mission 1s? How are they supposed to be approached?

This discussion can go on much more efficiently if you get an AIM account.
