Michael Pachter Claims the 3DS will Outsell the PSP2

I think Friday will follow Thursday this week. See, I can be an analyst!!!

The PSP2 is likely to cost even more than the 3DS since Sony like to through as much expensive tech into their devices as possible these days.

I can't remember seeing one statement from Pachter that wasn't stating the obvious or making up some random crap that doesn't even happen.

Wow...just wow...Patcher isn't even trying to "capture the consumer’s imagination" with his fluffy analyst tips. Not to mention we haven't seen the PSP2 yet so theres no saying what will win and what won't---but otherwise based on Nintendo's track record in the handheld department--they are obviously going to come out on top--but I really do hope that Sony's PSP2 has some innovation to offer---

I have a DS and PSP--and recently I've been playing my PSP much more--and even dabbling in all of its other functionalities--its a great piece of hardware--that has been severely underrated here in the US--as for play time--its generally just spent on Monster Hunter Freedom Unite--Sony needs to improve their game/software selection on the PSP--which could compare to Nintendo's Wii--outside of first party games-theres not much to choose from.

Nice of you to state the obvious Patcher, not only because the psp didn't do well at all but the price of the 3DS will be more affordable than the psp2.....yeeeaahh no one saw that comming. >_>

I think the comments you guys make about Pachter are so funny. That said, I do agree that he is making a claim that we all knew. And now that we know the 3DS price point it is safe to say that the PSP2 will be at least $300. Not to mention that the PSP2 does not have 3D screens, which Sony seems to rather dislike, as displayed at their CES conference.

How can he predict this when they haven't even "officially" announced the PSP2?

Now we need to see how Sony will price the PSP2 since there's no way they can do "PS3 level graphics" on a portable at less than $399 a pop which means they'd take a +$100 hit per portable sold and that's worked out wonderfully for their bottom line in the past...

You might be able to get PS3 graphics for less then $400 on a portable. Remember, your dealing with a lot lower resolution then 720p(or 1080).
Or maybe Sony will stream the games

the psp newer succeed so great because the games you had on the psp you had on ps2 and ps3 in better graphic but this time the psp2 will be even stronger compared to the ps3 then the first psp was vs ps2. psp2 can play ps3 games. 3DS is just the new gameboy, and this time wll the psp sell more. the psp2 can'tbe compared with an iphone anymore.

I have to disagree with Patcher, actually. I own both consoles, so don't see me as a Sony Fanboy or anything... But the 3DS, in my opinion, is just the newest and flashiest Gameboy. They seem to throw a new (slightly different) console out each year (with the exception of the SP-DS jump), while Sony has just been riding off the same old stuff; until now.

The 3DS is just going to be a gimmick. I already see the same trend happening in the movie industry - people love watching 3D movies, sure, but only for so long! The novelty is gone after a few sittings... I feel it will be the same with gaming.

Besides that point, I think Sony will have see success due to the fact that they've waited so long to come out with something like the PSP2. The GO was a complete failure, which makes me think people are going to be more receptive towards the PSP2 - it's rumored specs are incredible, and as long as it's harder to crack than the PSP and DS, it will have a strong developer army. So long as they announce it soon (on the 27th hopefully), they shouldn't have a problem getting interest from those who don't already know of it.

Lastly, which I don't know for sure of course, the 3DS and the PSP2 might actually be a pretty close price margin to each other. I hope Sony's learned that you can't sell overpriced junk - yes, I'm looking at you GO - Sony will have to start low if they hope to ever rival Nintendo.

I think it's obvious to us Nintendo fans, but if Pachter said the PSP2 would sell more, the Sony fans would say it was obvious. They are already making fun of the price and battery life, which, while fair, is a bit hypocritical.

Not trying to generalize too much, just saying that people have different perspectives. What may be obvious to you is ludicrous to someone else.

The PS3 has better spec than any console, though. And it's in dead last. It's not even close to the 360, and definitely not the Wii.

The Wii was also considered a "gimmick"; however, it is in its 4th year and it still outsells the other consoles.

Even if the 3D turns out to be a gimmick (which it won't, due to Hollywood and Sony's PS3 3D support), the games and support for the 3DS will keep it alive. This isn't the Wii. The DS has incredible 3rd party support - that won't change.

3DS will indeed outsell PSP2, Nintendo's history, experience, and recent marketing ability will no doubt see to that.

The two handhelds will be a lot closer in sales this time though, not a vast gap like with DS's 100+ mill vs PSP's 60+ mill.

But even so, you do know that the copycat artists known as Sony will eventually do 3D and as they always seem to be unoriginal in every way coping Nintendo as it is... I'm sure it will have a touch screen if not two and I'll freckin' fall out of my chair if the PSP2 has a similar 3D screen.
