One thing I didn't like about Soul Calibour II was the endings, couple of black and white pictures and some text, bit cheap wasn't it?
You forget, Super smash bros does that (albeit in colour) The game is in the play, not in the story.
Only played 2 and 4 and have to say 2 was way better than 4. I don't know why but everything got shittier. Star Wars FTW!
Star Wars FTL it's fucking everywhere and i'm sick to death of it.
A personal favorite of mine, and still play with a group of friends till\' this day. The game is so smooth, and never before were fighting characters were able to move so elegantly in all eight directions and the way Namco developed the fighting system allows an individual to complete complicated moved without extremely skilled timing. A vast array of moves gives way to numerous possibilities in defeating your enemy.
When you play it on XBLA, it feels like a modern game.
Well i still reckon the most fun had was in SCII on the GC using the Link grab move and throwing enemies off the edge within seconds. But i reckon SCII evolved and improved all the gameplay elements from the original. Soul Edge wasn't that bad either

First off in SCII they make the nuchuck weilder an Elvis impersonator which is just cruel then in both Soul Edge and Soul Calibur the only character to die in their ending sequence, yep you've guessed the nuchuck weilders.
It's arguably whether or no LiLong dies, especially since he's alive in Soulcalibur III. Then again I guess Maxi has returned for every game somehow too.
After he dies multiple times, Maxi goes evil in SCIII and then after he goes good he turns evil AGAIN in SCIV.
So yeah... reusing plot devices...
Soul Edge V2 on the Arcade was awesome.
Soul Edge/Blade is my personal favourite, LiLong was bloody awesome. Dunno why they camped him up and imo ruined him with sodding Maxi... Loved the weapon master mode, was tough as nails it was! Music, stages, characters - all good!
Soul Calibur was equally good, a nice step up from Blade imo. But I think SCII was better - more refined, still as good (but a little slower I tihnk).
SCIII - urgh. Bought it for £15, played it once LOL! SCIV I've only tried in demo - so bloody slow!

Soul Calibur had better mechanics but a shit single player. Soul Edge had the story mode which added lot more depth to the characters.
Sure. I also thought that Soul Edge's campaign was better than Soul Calibur's Mission mode. However, the actual gameplay in Soul Calibur is much improved. So while Soul Edge has a better single player mode, that amounts to peanuts next to Soul Calibur's perfect gameplay. Who plays these for anything other than the actual fighting, anyway? I've been trying to achieve something on my 360 that I could never quite do on my Dreamcast- defeat 100 enemies in Survival mode. I got 93 once on my Dreamcast. Most I've managed so far on my 360 is 72.
I will crack 100!
So what they need to do is a revised Soul Edge with the mechanics of soul Calibur and THEN we will have the perfect game.
Well i think Superlink is right, the storyline in a game is definately a nice reason to play a game. I'd rather them better the story line or just scrap a storyline altogether.
I also gotta agree with JB, whilst Soul Calibur was a great game i still think SCII is a better game...not much better, but just nicer to play. Don't get me wrong though, SC1 is still a great game by all means and is definately the best fighting game on the DC, just above DOA2
I didnt really enjoy SC3 and never really had that much chance to play it. It had a great potential to be a bigger game in the sense that awareness of the series had grown conciderably after SC2 being multi-format. For some stupid reason the PS2 got an exclusive and it was just silly.
I havnt had the chance to play SCIV yet and i simply just don't want to, and for the reason you said, i just don't think Namco have bettered it since number 2.

Definitely! Bring back the old characters and decent Mission mode. Weapons are so easy to buy in Calibur. Edge/Blade had to be earnt.

Really love Soul calibur for XBLA. Never played it for the original dreamcast and has all the modes you could possible want, something which SC4 didn't have.
The XBLA version is actually missing a mode from the Dreamcast version. The Dreamcast original had 'Mission Battle' mode, which was the bulk of the single-player game. You essentially had a series of 'challenge' fights, where each bout would be fought under strange conditions, and/or with obscure requirements for victory. It was by completing this mode that you gradually unlocked all the characters, and everything in the Museum.
In the XBLA version, Mission Battle is omitted, and all the characters and Museum items are simply available from the start. This can be either good or bad, depending on who you are. For me, I quite like that I don't have to go through Mission Battle mode again to unlock it all again, but for you, you might have wanted to be able to do that.
I don't know. It depends. All I know is that I can play the original Soul Calibur in HD on my 360- and that's fucking awesome.
I definitely think mission mode, or something like that, is needed. For me the bulk of gameplay was getting those weapons + chars (in Soul Blade/Edge), and it really felt earnt instead of bought.
And you had to be good with every character to unlock everything. In Soul Calibur you could unlock everything with just the one character because the shop was independant from the game itself.

Ye, exactly. Dear god Voldo was a bitch to complete
My friend had soul calibur 4 on his 360, played it loads when at his house - the more I tried to play properly, the less I won, so I kept with my manic button bashing and I was almost unbeatable
Not sure if the older versions require any more skill since I haven't played them....but I'd say that was pretty poor (but fun)

Same with me in SCII. I tried so hard to play properly, and my brother just kept owning me by spamming Y. So then I just resorted to constantly tossing him out of the ring.
Link was the worst for that. Either you hugged the back of the run and use the backwards throw or run up and use the baseball bat attack, both can give you an instant ring out.
