The DK Country ones at the time were pretty revolutionary because how the models were light sourced.
Capcom have made some of the greatest sprites for me, many of my faves are found in their fighting games, Felicia is just one.
Felicia- Darkstalkers

Actually, my new guitar student I'm teaching is left-handed (which is a bit of a cunt, as I have to make left-handed scale diagrams for him).

He's right-handed, there...

That\'s what I call inconsistency. Didn\'t think Nintendo would miss something like that.
( Edited 06.07.2008 12:58 by SuperLink )The best sprite. Hooray!
For me, a few Boss sprites from Final Fantasy 6. The detail in them is fucking immense.
They may not move, but do they really need to?

I don\'t think they did. Remember that the Goron and Zora masks are reflections of the deceased/dying characters that Link obtained them from. The others that Link interacts with whilst wearing the masks believe him to be them, so there has to be a few traits to make them think that, ergo, Right-handedness.
( Edited 06.07.2008 21:32 by Phoenixus )That's a possible excuse...
It's also something that'll never be answered...
And Sprite, speaking of amazing still sprites, check out this spriter on Deviantart: He has some pretty amazing stuff.

They are very nice but still one of the reasons i\'m not as fond of 2D final fantasies is because the battles are very lifeless.
Although thats probably more to do with losing the moving camera from the 3D versions but a bit of animation would have really helped add a bit more life to the battles.

Thanks for the link! That is some awesome stuff.
(Now I want to go and improve my spriting )
And pfft, Blade, the old FFs are where it\'s at!
( Edited 06.07.2008 22:38 by Sprite )Only 6 is worth playing and maybe 1 if you really want to see how it started.

I disagree.
I'm currently playing through 5 which is great, and 4 isn't bad either. 1 is also quite good if you like old-school, I haven't played 3, and 2 is poor, I'll give you that one. 6 is also fab.
The best thing about them is they have good stories without feeling the need to make you sit there watching a cutscene for 20 minutes without being able to do anything else.
I wanted to argue with Blade too but nowadays I just give up on people who don't wanna try the old FF games
FFI is good fun, FFII is so-so, FFIII is great, FFIV is awesome, FFV is awesome too, and FFVI is fantastic
I find the older final fantasies require alot more level grinding though which is pretty tedious from about 6 onwards (well i dunno about 12) they seemed to have it more balanced.
In FF4 for example my levels seemed pretty spot on for monsters and bosses for were I was in but the game minute I got to the moon, every monster was like a boss.

Happens in the newer games too, chap.
I'm playing FF10 and when I got to Seymour whatever it was on Gagazet I was completely owned multiple times until I did some grinding, and that was with me not running away from any battles and after doing some back-tracking too. Same happened with Yunalesca.
And never fucking mind about the monsters in Sin. Every battle there was bloody epic.
But thats a major interruption in the story for me, all it serves is to just bring me out of the flow of the game and well ruins the game basically.
Well it wasn\'t a major problem in 6-9 except in certain ares like that tower were you can\'t use magic in 6 and fighting the optional weapons or omega boss\'.
Then why do you play Final Fantasy at all?
I enjoy the path there immensely, and that's what makes the game for me. It's always the same with RPGs, the final dungeon/bosses are always immensely above the rest of the game, and grinding is always required.
I'll complete them someday, but I definitely enjoyed the way there.

Because I enjoy most of them? Can I not i critisize certain aspects of the games I don't enjoy?
Final Fantasy has grinding. Grinding ruins a game for you.
See where I'm coming from?
Moderate amount of grinding I can take, certain games in the series require extreme amounts coupled with storys that I don't find as appealing = a not so good Final Fantasy game experiance.
Fair enough.
Now, back to the regular schedule...
I'm suprised metal slug hasn't been mentioned.
Castle crashers looks like it will have some great sprites aswell.
Metal Slug is ace, not my type of game I think but the sprites are 'mazin rly.
I like watching footage just for the spritework and the action.
