I thought he may have been dropped too, but I think he hasn't been shown because he'll probably end up as a secret character.

as in - to put it bluntly

Perhaps the development team want to draw attention to Brawl's other features instead of mentioning Snake. For those that don't follow Brawl's progress like us, the First third party character (and a hardcore gamer's favorate) would be the biggest news.
Thats my two cents anyway.

I remember him being in a screen shot on the site. It was one where he was doing a crawl trying to sneak up on Link.

Only bad thing about these updates, they all seem to merge.
