I think Nintendo are still recovering from their golden era (the N64), when they forced so much on developers (anyone remember Duke Nukem 64?). They are now going the other way, and are happy so long as people are making games for their consoles. There's happy medium which they aren't hitting.

Metal Slug Anthology
What!? I mean... Progressive scan is just making the game display normally rather than half of it at a time... Why would any game not include it!?

anyone know if the Wii version of Need For Speed Carbon has 480P and 16;9

Fuck knows mate. It is slightly more demanding on the hardware, but that's absolutely no excuse to make this generation.

Just added the Virtual Console to the non-16:9 list. This may need to be changed one day as some N64 games (e.g. DK64) have a widescreen mode.

N64 games with widescreen?

When hardly any GC games had widescreen!?

Yep, hardly any though. DK64 is the only game I have that does it, don't have a widescreen telly to try it on though.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Perfect Dark has widescreen, as I believe does GoldenEye.

Isn't the whole point of the Wii not to support up-to-date television standards? Well, not the point of the console but, ah, you know what I mean! Nintendo don't care about things such as progressive scan.

Just tried a few more games, JFG does it too. I assume most Rare games do it then.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Yeah, Rare are awsome. They were doing widescreen games before widescreen even existed!

Dolby Surround too.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

This piece of crap has 480i 4:3

Added, the shitehawks.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Super fruitfall with no 16:9 added.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

!!!
The PAL version of Call of Duty 3, and doubtless some other 3rd party games nobody cares about, does not have a 60hz mode. In 2006.
!!!

Fuck's sake...

Some crappy game by the name of Rampage:Total Destruction - just 480i and 4:3.

Shame about Call of Duty 3 Smilie

... No 60Hz is... I can understand for VC games, but a new game? What the fuck...

Having only just upgraded to a TV that supports 60Hz and Scart this year, I can't see a difference either.

I'm sure if I sat down and compared a game running at 50 and 60 Hz then I would see something, but as it stands this isn't really an issue for me at the moment.

Perhaps a few years down the line, who knows?

See, us ignorant folk benefit in some ways as we don't feel the urge to purchase new cables/TV's and what have you, so we save money and aren't bothered about things like this! Smilie

Sorry, somewhat irrelevant post...

It's more noticeable when games are running 20% slower than when games are running at optimised 50hz at the correct speed(e.g. most 1st party N64 games excluding MarioKart64). Play the original PAL Sonic on the MD, and then on Mega collection to see this.

I can always tell even when it's at the correct speed though. If I accidentally put a game on 50hz I see a slight flicker, in 60hz I see no flicker at all unless I get up close. And then interlaced to progrssive scan is just a god-like clarity boost. Then you get HD and all those thin objects in the distance, jaggies, fuzzy mess in the distance gives way to what effectively seems like looking through a window.

I need a prog-scan Tv. Zelda would look so good.

And CoD?WTF?

This game should be outlawed for that...

First you need a decent component cable.

And super swing golf has no 480p or 16:9

Tecmo should be shot!!!Smilie

I run a similar thread in a spanish forum and a couple of forumites have confirmed me that Gottlieb's Pinball Classics has no 480p mode. It makes sense being a game from the same studio that made the fruitty crappy game.

I am beginning to thing it would have been easier to make a list of games that actually suport 480p. Smilie

Actually, Rayman Raving Rabbids doesn't support widescreen either.
