Gamespot are very inconsistent, and Jeff is the worsrt among them. And I hate it how they take the average of the sub-scores (sound, graphics, value etc). Greg I think he's called, is their vest reviewer.

They're just trying to be contravsersial. 8.8 is only 0.2 below Edge (although they technicaly don't do decimals thank god).

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Edges system seems good, integers from 1 to 10 is ideal for me.

Percentages FTW! Smilie

1/10 isn't good enough. That means ANY GOOD GAME can get 10/10! You'd never know what game was better! It's HORRIBLE!! *runs away crying*Smilie

Indeed Grumbler. I was looking on their forums and that seems to be the general consensus.

Gamer7's is the best:

A+- A landmark game at the pinnacle of its genre.
A - A distinguished and entertaining game.
B - The game may have minor flaws, but remains an enjoyable experience.
C - An average, pedestrian game.
D - Multiple flaws, unimaginative and boring.
E - Severe problems that make the game unplayable.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Rubbish. Percentages are for nobheads with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The kind of people go go around straightening the handles on teacups so that they're all in a neat line. The kind of folk for whom everything most be done to a hideous degree of exactness. No score can provide a precise measure of how good a game is. That's exactly what percentage and decimal scores pretend to do. I mean, what's the difference between something getting 88%, and something getting 92%? It's rubbish, pure rubbish!

Out of Ten is a huge step in the right direction, but still too exacting, for me. The best is definitely the Out of Five system. Rather than 'any good game' getting full marks (a good game would be 4/5), the reality would be the contrary, in fact. It'd force reviewers to be a little more harsh when rating games. It's also promote the actual reading of reviews.

If you wanted a really special Out of Five system, it'd be the regular one. Except for those darn special occasions, those once-or-twice moments in whole console generations when a game has gone so far above and beyond the call of exellence, that it recieves a 6/5 Smilie

The Out of Five rating system kill all else!! Smilie

Wow lets use letters instead of numbers :O!

I like the 10 point system.

How is 5 enough Oni? Seriously. Out of 5 means a 70% and 90% (if 80% = 4) game would get the same score. How is that fucking accurate enough?

It's more than accurate enough, because you can't accurately score a game. You're problem is that you're thinking in percentages.

There is a BIG difference between a 70% game and a 90% game. No question about it. If you're short of cash and you are suck between buying 2 similar games, a percentage helps you decide which would be the better investment. (althought I do agree that % is too "accurate") I think out of 10 with .5's would be best.

Nope, that's rubbish. You're still thinking in percantages. All you need to know is; 1 = terrible, 2 = crap, 3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = great! That's clearly a brilliant way of scoring. And if you found youself in that rediculous situation you mentioned, and two games you're interested in both scored 4/5, than you'd just have use common sense.

This would include; Actually reading the review (I know, I know!!), remembering what kind of games appeal to you more, and deciding which game would suit you best. Simple. Anything above the Out of Ten system (once you start going into decimals) is taking things way out of the realms of simplicity, and it's just pure rubbish. How can you honestly give a game '8.5'!?

It's bollocks.

I DO read reviews. And yes, the out of 5 system works if you're doign a few games, but when you're comparing hundreds of games, how does an out of 5 rating allow you to compare?

If you want to have such a degree of simplicity why not just get rid of the score altogether?

IMO, out of 5 just doesn't work. If a game like Chibi-Robo got 4/5, I would have never gotten it, because it's just your every day "good game" if it got 90%, I'd know it was more than good, but not enough to be great, but if everything was otu of 5, it would have gotten 4, & I would have never gotten it, & I would have never fallen in love with the incredible game! Really, I read the review, but it's the score that makes my decision final. They can say it's brilliant in a review, but in the end having 80% makes all the difference from having 90%. People who do out of 5 just can't be bothered. People who do percentages give it an out of ten, then decide what it's closer to, & how close Smilie

It's very in depth ^^ *runs*

IM fucking O! AYE, EM, FUCKING, OH. Don't hurt me. You're too stubborn I won't even try to argue anymore Smilie

How can the 5 point system be any good? i mean for example halo got a 4 and so did killzone we all know that halo is the superior game but if ths happend with new games that we dont know about and you bought the shitter of the two (killzone) then u would be pissed, thterefore i hold my flag up to the 100 percent system as this is the most accurate in magazines. Gamesmaster uses this system and we all know that it is the better magazine.SmilieSmilie

No chance of that.

Guys. For fuck's sake.

Reviewers are people. People are cocks.

Also, who knows, TP could be a big pile of shit. Is some bloke's 8.something score really going to stop you playing the thing??

Less posty, more gamey.
