You just CAN't, can you?
Fuck off all the newcomers, let's see the old favourites like Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Captain Falcon in a new look beating the shit out of Wario.
{Guild}Ohmdal: But how did you get the poo inside of the box when the goat was sleeping on top of it?
{Guild}Ohmdal: oops wrong chat

wait a sec... if they are showing fox as a new character then did they take all the old characters off like Marth, Roy, ganon, zelda and every other character. wait are they going to take off some of thier orginal charaters and decide if they will return or what. somebody fill me in
It should be Jick, from Kingdom of Loathing. (See Avatar)

it worries me that they're making such a fuss over the return of an old character Fox.. Now we have a grand total of... 10 characters, compared with 25 in Melee.
I mean if they don't even reach 25, a lot of people, myself included will be REALLY dissapointed...
They said they are having around 40 characters in an interview a while ago. I hope so, 25 (as much as Melee) will be fine by me, as long that doesn't include clones.
WHAAAAAAAAT!? Have you not seen that first trailer with the transitions? It's... Just... Beautiful ;_;
I did go back on my comment earlier...
I thought they confirmed that the only characters not returning were Young Link (In favour of cell-shaded Link) Ice Climbers and... Someone else... I can't remember. I'm pretty sure they're keeping the majority of Melee characters in there
I had a quick peek at C3 on Friday evening, hoping to see some in game footage of Sonic beating the crap outta Mario
But I KNEW IT. Bloody Fox! Didn't I say that somewhere before? We're all gonna get our hopes up about MegaLan or Sonic, but it turns out to be a character we KNEW was definitely gonna be in it anyway
Oh well, the new trailer is amazing, I love the graphics... *drool* & Fox looks pretty good too, so I'm not too pissed off about it any more.
Is it just me, or did Wario's model look very jerky? Is he like that on purpose? Couldn't help but notice the new characters didn't have models as detailed as the older characters.
By the way, I think Nintendo want us to know that THEY CAN CRAWL NOW!! *OMFG THATZ SU COOL*
I wanted to play as Birdo so badly, but now I don't care 'cos you can CRAWL. That's the coolest thing I've EVER seen!
EDIT: Also, Young Link, Ice Climber & Mr Game & Watch weren't CONFIRMED to be chucked out, I think it was just a big rumour going around, & I wouldn't be surprised to see it come true.
If it did come true then that's a shit move. Ice Climber & Mr Game & Watch were great, they were some of the most original playable characters.
As for Young Link, don't get me started. Young Link is the PROPER Link. They got away with sticking him in SSBM as a secret character with the word "young" in front of his name, but that ain't good enough, neither is Cel Link.
If anything, they should make Cel Link an alternate costume for the proper Link, & have "Adult Link" as a secret character.
how many games has Cel Link been in? Urm... 1... (not including 4swords or minish cap)
How many games has Adult Link been in? ..... 2....
So how is he the main Link then!? HUH!? HUH!?!
I'll be very mad if they get rid of PROPER Link in favour of Adult Link...
EDIT: Also, I think that Nintendo said it would have 40-50 characters, so I wouldn't worry....

Triple post? Each post was pertaining to a different response and I wasn't sure if I had enough time to respond to all at once. Any way... sorry.

Is anyone a bit disappointed with the graphics? I mean they look so much like Melees, and the animations for some characters look clunky. And a lot of characters are really simple, while others are rendered well (ala link). I am sure they will fix it up though.
Are you serious? I think it looks fantastic. Keep in mind it's still in early development stages and it won't be finished for about a year.
I don't get people's comments about the animtions being jerky... You act as if it wasn't EXACTLY the same in Melee... For like... EVERY character
To be honest the game is too fast for it to be any different. Attacks would just take far too long
Seriously... just look at the way Wario moves, I'm not sure what you think, but I think it looks horrible... I sure hope they INTEND him to be that way as a comical figure, or that it's something that'll be sorted out, every other character looks beautiful though, the way the battles look you'd think the game is near completion.
I wonder when we'll get another character? Wouldn't it be brilliant if they revealed a new character every week on Friday in the run up to the game's release? Even one a month is good enough for me, I just don't think I can wait more than half a year for Yoshito be revealed....
But I can wait half a year for Ice Climber & Mr Game & Watch to be revealed, it'll be worth the wait knowing they're still in there...

Sonic, Surely!
Somehow i don't think that will happen even if we want it to, but surely it won't be super smash brothers if third party characters become involved and it's no longer nintendo characters.

A lot of the excitement has come from the inclusion of Snake though... I think its fair to say that branching out to non-Nintendo characters might be a good thing.
I have no problems with the graphics, but does anyone else think this looks like exactly the same game as Melee? Straight sequels are all very well and good, but i'd like to see Nintendo branching out their francises to make use of the Wii's technology.

Wario looks like he's from a fleppin' Game & Watch game, he moves from one pose instantly to another with no movement in between
Nintendo said there would be 3-4 3rd party characters, we have Snake, who is possibly THE most unlikely character EVER, so who knows?
Heh, me personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Crono in there. He's one of the most likely RPG characters to be in there. Me, I think Fox kinda looks like a duck. I see how Nintendo trying to put all of different character designs from SF:C, SF:A, and ST:Assault, but it just turned out to be a freak accident. But, they still have a year to work on it, but it really dosen't bother me.

You're kidding right? Chrono hasn't been seen for like 10 years, plus he's Square isn't he? We're more likely to see an FFIII character, since that'll be Nintendo's most famous FF RPG by that time. Besides, noone in UK will even know who Chrono is.
Listen to me now people, I'm only going to say this once. And by once I mean probably over and over, because most of you are too dense to get it the first time. We all know that putting someone like Cloud in the game would be OMG and all the fanboys would go insane and the game would sell billions. But at the same time its desecrating the fact that this is supposed to be a Nintendo game, even further than Snake has already.
Now Snake has an excuse, Kojima has the inside connection and of course the begging and the fact that he's friends with Sakurai and all that. Snake IS an unconventional character for Smash and I still feel he shouldn't be there, but given the circumstances at hand he becomes an exception to the rule, he gets in through some special way, because of Kojima's plees. As much as I disagree with the final decision, the explanation for why he's there is at least understandable. He's not just there to rake in Sony fans, but more as the director's favor for a friend. The popularity he'll attract is only icing on the cake.
This choice however, causes the chain reaction. People don't read the articles past the word "Snake", they just stop right there and freak. At this time hundreds of ideas start flowing through they're heads "NINTENDO ADDAGE TEH THRD PRTY CACTOR!1!! TAHT MENS ZONIC AN MEGAMN AN ZERO AN MASTER CHEF AND NIGHTMARE AND RYU AN CLOUD AN SEPHY AN VINCENT AN TIFA AN SORA AN RIKU AND" and the demand just rises through the roof. Snake's presence in the game makes all the ignorant n00bs and casual gamers think that, just because Snake's there, anything goes now. They think all the doors are open, lets rename the game Super 3rd Party Bros. vs Capcom. But IN REALITY, all it was was a little idea the delevopers decided to do for fun. It didn't mean anything super important or "ALL ABOARD TEH SMASH TRAIN!!1!", but it got blown out of proportion because nobody reads between the lines and looks at the FACTS.
Now because of this, Nintendo HAS to add more 3rd Party characters to feed the demand, or there will be massive disapointments. But if they just up and add every demand of every drooling, clawing fanboy and throw in whatever characters they have no experience/connection with like Sephiroth and Dante and Sam Fisher, Nintendo is degrading themselves by completely going against what they're game is supposed to be about(get this: NINTENDO) and only doing it to try and please everyone so they make a lots and lots of money. Do you guys know what this process is called in the gaming industry?
FRANCHISE WHORING
Only this time its with other franchises. This is a Nintendo game, about Nintendo characters, what do Cloud, Riku, and Kratos have to do with Nintendo's legacy? You just want them to go against they're own style, go against the things that made the series great in the first place and turn their flagship game into a multi-franchise brothel just so you can play as your favorite character? I think theres a lot more opinion involved in any of this than there is fact and reasoning.
But the damage has already been done. As I said, Snake's presence has triggered the reaction, now if Nintendo doesn't add any 3rd parties, a large majority of the fanbase will be pissed as hell(to those of you who DON'T want anyone else from a 3rd partys added, thats good for you, but keep in mind that you are in the minority). Therefore we find the dilemma of how to add popular 3rd party characters yet still keep the game about Nintendo, and not just turn it into a universal fighting championship where everyone from everywhere throws in their guy for the hell of it.
I believe Nintendo can achieve this feat by adding only the popular 3rd Party characters who have had a good presence or relationships with Nintendo in the past, those who could almost be considered "honorary Nintendo characters" by fans and developers alike. Characters like Sonic, Mario's proclaimed rival, theres not a gamer alive who hasn't imagined a fight between the two. Or the ORIGINAL Megaman(not X) who helped carry the popularity of both the NES and the SNES. They both played they're own role in Nintendo's history and helped Nintendo become what it is today, and both would make good 3rd party candidates. They're popular and they have relevance to Nintendo.
Now before you start throwing around ideas, keep in mind that JUST BECAUSE A CHARACTER HAS APPEARED ON A NINTENDO CONSOLE IT DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE AUTOMATICALLY RELEVANT TO NINTENDO.
Yeah, Sora, Cloud, and Riku appeared on the GBA in KH: Chain of Memories, did that game do a whole lot for Big N? NO. So thats not relevance. Soul Calibur II had Link in it, but did the other characters in that game like Nightmare do a lot for Nintendo? NO. The only character in SCII who holds any real relevance is Link, and HE'S the reason why the game was so popular on GC, not Nightmare, so why should he get to be in the game? Resident Evil 4 was one of the most popular games for GC, but does that mean Leon Kennedy can pass as a character recognized as a N-goer by many Nintendo fans, new and old? NO. The game may have been really good, but the RE series does not have any heavy Nintendo appeal aside from a few exclusives, not like a better Capcom representative such as Megaman would have. Plus the game is also on PS2 now, and its technically BETTER. These are just a few examples.
But that still leaves Snake. "He's a 3rd party, but he doesn't have much more Nintendo relevance than someone like Cloud does, WTF Dillo?" I know that Snake himself obviously has little to do with Nintendo aside from the fact that his first games were on the NES(which as I stated above, does NOT make him completely Nintendo-relevant), but once again, he got in because of Kojima. Now I don't see the likes of Tetsuya Nomaru up at Nintendo HQ pleeding with Sakurai to include his buddies Cloud and Sephiroth in the game(despite the fact that they actually lack even more relevance to Nintendo than Snake does). Why is it so many people are certain that, since Snake is in the game, so many more other 3rd parties characters with minimal connections to Nintendo should be as well? Why should they get in? Their creators didn't BEG.
Furtherwise, something you should all know: Big name characters COST MONEY. Lots of money. Snake got in easy because of Kojima, the licensing fees were probably very minimal because it was his idea. However other huge name, popular characters from companies who have little-to-no connections to Nintendo won't be giving up they're big name characters without a huge price tag chained to they're asses. I guaruntee you Master Chief, Kratos, James Bond and others like that are completely out of the question for this reason(among many other reasons). Although Nintendo and Square have been close before, I can almost guaruntee you that Cloud, they're flagship spikey haired wonder boy, will NOT come cheap, neither will Sexiroth. However, Square still did play a heavy role in Nintendo's development and they are still very close companies, I can see Square letting one of they're really-popular-but-not-a-cash-cow-like-buster-sword-boy characters in for minimal fees, which is why I suggest Crono from Chrono Trigger. He may not be as huge as Cloud, be he's more than famous, and he's highly relevant to Nintendo to boot, representing the unmatched greatness that were SNES RPGs and quite possibly being the pinnacle of RPG gaming on any Nintendo system, and arguably ever. If I were Nintendo, that legacy is something I'd want to flaunt more, rather than completely ignoring(Where the crap is our SMRPG DS?)
I know what you mean, & I in no way am expecting Cloud to be on a Nintendo console, infact I highly doubt any Square characters will be on there at all, but Nintendo said there would likely be 3-4 more 3rd party characters put in after Snake, & I could only think of a few that could be easily put onto SSBB.
First of all, Snake has hardly appeared on Nintendo consoles at all, so it's more likely for even Sonic to be in it than Snake, besides, in the GC & GBA days, Nintendo & SEGA shared a close relationship in gaming, & Sonic was asked to be put into SSBM too, I don't see it as too unlikely.
& then there's Bomberman, up until Konami showed up & bought Hudson, they were always like a 2nd party to Nintendo, Nintendo was Bomberman's home, so I think he could be likely too, he was also rumoured to be in SSBM at one time.
Oh sry, once I read "FF" in ur post, I assumed you were suggesting Cloud.
I would like to see Crono, but like I said before, Nintendo probably forgot all about him.
But ur right, most ppl in the UK probably won't know who Crono is, but I bet a lot of n00bs didn't know who Marth and Roy was until they showed up in Melee, because they both kicked ass.
Hobbes said:It's the same case with Roy & Marth actually, they were never seen in UK until SSBM, but Fire Emblem was always being released in Japan, & thanks to SSBM, Fire Emblem was introduced to UK, good news for some I guess, but whether you may like ikt or not, Square havn't shown Chrono's shining face to the public in about 10 years, but as I always say.... you never know....

They were suppose to remake Chrono Trigger on the PS2, until Square made a Cease and Desist letter which means the project is publicly closed indefinitely.
I hate Square.....
Anyway, I'm still waiting for Nintendo to make Falco into a frog.
But ur right, most ppl in the UK probably won't know who Crono is, but I bet a lot of n00bs didn't know who Marth and Roy was until they showed up in Melee, because they both kicked ass.
Noobs? I don't think anyone knew who they were unless they were into the Japanese pre-GBA Fire Emblem games. Also, unless I read people's posts about Chrono Trigger, I would have no idea who Crono is.
By the way, Hobbes, when people say they'd like to see characters like Cloud and Sora etc. It's usually just wishful thinking, it is what they would like to see.
