Wii secrets and price! update5

Thanks to Koam from the GAF forums for posting the details inside the latest EGM:

$249 price tag
The console is ALWAYS online even when OFF
Built in speaker (microphone?) on the controller
Virtual Console (known)
3D Controller (known)

The issue has new Monkey Ball, Red Steel, Zelda, and Rayman pictures. Zelda's graphics have changed, as can be seen in the TIME scan, the textures have been over-saturated to give it this kind of anime/painted appearance

UPDATE 1:

- No improved graphics on Virtual Console. No mention of improved framerates
- TG16 will have it's 1st party games on VC at launch, 3rd party will come later as demand increases.
- Estimated prices for the VC are "a few dollars for NES, $5 for SNES and $10 for N64"
- VC games are progressive-scan enabled.
- $250 "seems appropriate"
- More 3rd party exclusives than the Cube

UPDATE 2:

- Zelda is 80% complete. Delay was for graphic tweaks, wii functions and because they want the game to be measured on a scale of 1 to 120 instead of 1 to 100.
- NO SWINGING THE CONTROLLER for the sword, you just press a button. There are some cases where you will swing though. The reason is because you'll get tired too fast otherwise
- Controller does sound effects
- Widescreen on Wii only!
- Navi only exists when you play on Wii
- Something with online is planned but no battle mode.
- More dungeons than OOT already
- More items too

UPDATE 3:

- Metroid Prime 3 will not be a launch title. 2007 release
- Godzilla (Atari) and Snoopy vs the Red Baron (Namco) announced

Zelda screenshot info:

- Link riding epona in Hyrule field... castle in the very far distant. Pic looks ugly cause it's blown up.
- Link looking at a Lava thing explode.. AWESOME
- Link standing in a field next to midna and lots of mountains with floors on the floor.. pretty shot
- Link on a canoe with some girl.. he just caught a fish (fishing shot)
- Midna riding Link in wolf form (naughty)
- old vs new zelda comparison
- Link upside down with bow and arrow in hand (weird but nice)
- Link carrying other passenger
- wolf teleporting to hyrule

The always on even when off sounds intresting, i wonder what it's used for, hmmmm. Those price estimates for the VC sound very nice aswell

GOOD.

MP3 news sucks, but Dragon Quest at launch makes up for it.

There shouls have been a "swinging the controller for the sword option" just for laughs sake

Thank god for no swinging controller for sword. I was worried they were going to bodge that badly. Shame about MP3 but I suppose the longer they spend on it the better if its to be the main killer app fps..

Same as 360. I have to take the bloody plug out every night becaue it's always on

I fucking hate always on appliances, even more than lifestyle marketing. It;s such a fucking waste of electricity for very little gain. Digital recievers, routers, modems, PCs; everything is missing a proper power switch nowadays. It's no wonder the planet is going down the pan. If Nintendo are serious about making an energy efficient machine, they'll rethink this one.

I think it should be illegal to have such a feature. Seriously.

It annoys me too, but 'ey, what ya gonna do about it?

The sound effects thing is pretty cool I think. Swinging away in a star wars game with a light saber and hearing it hum and then hearing it hit against another just sounds like it'll make for an awesome experience.

Having the VC games progressive scan is kinda poopy. Correct if I'm wrong because I'm not at all sure about this, but don't some new tvs (or some tv's) not use progressive scan?

Well there definately should be some/more regulation on it because it's a complete joke at the moment.

There will be a choice wether you play them in Progressive scan or not.
Btw whats the point in being always on? Does it just download stuff behind you back or somthin?
