so??? you'll get better if you want to, trust me, I used to whack a filter on and let it be, and you can get some cool effects from it, just look at inspiring work, you'll get there

Hmm I have no idea how to do most of these graphics!!

Practice. If you spend some time just mucking around with the tools then you will get better.

for my night vision one it is a colourised image of the full pic with zero saturation. Then I selected a small area of the pic and added horizontal bars at differant widths (line tool) and the occasial pixel out of line. then I used motion blurs and noise filter before finally colourising green. Same for the other area. The text is line white; fill zero, and with one black outlined letter.
