An eye or a Revolution in gaming, I know which I'd rather :p

I can't believe some people hate the R so much, it might actually be my favourite logo involving anything.

I don't like the 360 logo. And the name '360' is just shite. It they're going to call it that, the console should be round. Stupid name in my opinion.

The Revolution logo is alright. Could be quite a bit better, but it'll do me. And I agree with '10do, it has Nintendo stamped all over it!

Gastrian wrote: Lets see, Nintendo gets slated for the Gamecube because it looks like it was made by Playskool, so what do they do? Base their logo on the main feature of a toy store's logo.

It actually looks fuck all like the Toys R Us logo, besides the fact that it's an R.

If people think the logo looks kiddie then Nintendo are fucked and might as well call the console the Nintendo Kids System - ignorance can't be beat.

Agreed, I'm not to sure how it looks anything like the 'R' from the Toys 'R' us logo either...

It's certainly not kiddy. Silver and grey look professional. If any console has a kiddy logo, it's the XBox 360...

It looks to me, from the tick, that the one in the square box has been chosen, not the one posted in the first post.

I think it's a damn nice logo, not at all kiddy or Toys 'R' Us-like, and I think Nintendo should probably go with the name of 'Revolution' now; they've been hyping it for so long that it's what everybody knows it as and people will be left going 'huh?' when there's a new name for it. It's also an interesting name that grabs peoples' attention.

The XBox 360 logo is cool as well, but I think this one's great.

My theory was that the sheet was showing the evolution of the logo design, you can see detail improve and font alter slightly to the top image that looks the most complete/finished - therefor the tick still indicates the posted image. Suppose we'll have a 2 day wait to know for sure, I'd certainly prefer the top one.

As for keeping revolution, couldn't agree more. It'd be the first time Nintendo keep a code name, but it's a great name that has really routed within gaming community's. And as you say it'll certainly grab the attention, even in the mainstream market.

I like the bottom one on that page.

I think the 360 logo was a bit better, but it wasn't that good.

If they made it a solid colour, I think it could be better.

Looks pants. The N64 logo was the best.

Just had a thought.

Maybe this logo may reveal how the console works.

Super smooth analoge control perhaps?

I hate the R. It looks to much like the "Boomerang" logo:

But then again, I don't want it to be called Revolution either. To many commercials use that ("Try our revoultionary cat litter", or "It the revolution is shaving" or something like that).

And i agree with Chris, the 64 logo is the coolest thing ever ^_^

TAG: That American Guy

"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." Romans 12:18

logo's alright.

Not the best, but cool. I still think that the DS logo is sweet. We'll all find out at e3 whether this is true or not.

Again I can't see any connection between Bloomerang and this logo, they are (imo) a world apart.

As for the name, I think it's a great move. I couldn't agree more about the whoring of the word by adverts (happens here; "Revolutionary Moose Foundation", wtf is so revolutionary about foundation in moose form) but at the same time it targets two of the most important markets.

1. Hardcore gamers that know and associate the name, they are used to it and know it'll be revolutionary.

2. The mainstream sheep, there is a reason adverts use the word - people are thick. They get told something is revolutionary and buy it, no questions asked. Think about it they see nearly identical consoles (PS & XBOX) and one called the Revolution, they might not know a gaming revolution is you punched them in the face with one but all the same they'll likely buy the "Revolutionary" product instead.

Personally I love the name, and if Nintendo changed it I'll be a little gutted.

Smilie @ Gastrian

i think its the sort of bulgey curvedness of it that makes it look kiddy; if you want something to look sophisticated, "mature"

I'd strongly suggest this is the most mature logo we've seen (maybe on par with Sony) - it's like an R made out of mercury, damn mature looking.

Broken record and all that but I can't see anything even slightly kiddie about it, it's mature, slick and classy.

But it encorporates nothing of the console and means less. While it may be mettalic in colour its drawn in a style reminiscent of the bubble writing we all used to do as kids. There is nothing uniform within that R style, children don't seek uniform styles and shapes but adults do, that is why it will be considered kiddy.

Two things.

1, it's just like the Cube's logo at core level, it was just a big G in the shape of a Cube - a logo is a sophisticated representaion, not really relating to the product, its an iconic form of association. Take the crappy 360 logo out of things (and how many will even know what it means anyway!) and how many gaming logo's have been more than a character/numeric representation of the product name. Just having an R for Revolution is VERY common practice.

2, if that's kiddie I'm going back to fucking playschool. I'd say that's as professional and mature as logos for many large graphical type companies heck most companies in many industries etc.

In fact thinking of that rolling in on screen sounds friggin awesome. Just imagine a pool of mercury or something, really high detail, awesome graphics - kiddie, certainly not in my book and I honestly can't see how anyone could think that. Rob

...eh...for all we know that could sum up the console. Cant really say it doesn't reflect the console till we know what it can do.

The gamecube's logo was representative of the console, G - Game, in a box - Cube.

Just because it's merucry does not make it mature or professional, take it out of context and how many people would be 100% definite that its an R and not something else. Its an ambiguous blob that has a bare resemblance to an R.

OK let's play the take it out of context game.

Remove the 360 from the xbox logo and you're left with a few stupid green circles.

Take Deamcast out of the DC logo and you're left with a stupid swirl.

Please explain the difference.

Logo's evolve from product association, when you see the logo you get the context then only need to see the graphic to associate with the product.

I can tell you one thing a mercury R is far more mature and good than a few green circles.

And what Sharpshot said.
