The beauty of some of these bits of DLC is that everything about them can be deduced simply by the title. Did you feel that the prior game was lacking in the high-pressure salsa and arson charges? Then this piece of add-on content will fix that right up! Following the Slavic Nations Culture Pack, Cubed3 reviews Total War: Attila's other DLC, Blood & Burning.
When it comes to the Total War series, despite combat involving hundreds, if not thousands, of troops engaged in mass slaughter of each other, the base games have had surprisingly little blood and gore. Maybe it's an attempt to avoid getting higher age ratings, keeping the graphics cards from blowing out, or something else. Regardless, the games are fairly bloodless. This little bit of DLC aims to change that.
The method is fairly straightforward. Take the game and let the various little men cover the screen in red whenever they get hurt. In the cold winter mornings, during night attacks, let the flames of death surround them as they ride towards the fight! Let those that are suffering from illness puke when standing idle!
Beyond that, however, there is simply nothing more to this content. It's a graphics mod that adds in blood, fire, vomit, and little more.
At the end of the day, if this bit of DLC is worth it or not comes down to the need of the player to see those little splashes of red and the like. If it's there, it's worth it. If it isn't, then nothing will be missed by not buying Blood & Burning. It has a place and purpose, and not much else can be said.
