Nintendo News | Dragon Quest IX DS Confirmed!

Update 2 - Further news has begun to filter in, such as the subtitle to the game being Defender of the Stars. Other interesting tidbits are that the game will have a four-player co-op option and will launch sometime mid-2007.

Update - Dragon Quest IX has been confirmed for the Nintendo DS! The game will feature Wi-Fi compatibility and is being worked on by Level 5, just like Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2.

Original Story - According to Nintendo Inside, Square Enix has advertised in the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper that a Dragon Quest presentation is due on Tuesday 12th December. A new DQ game announcement is expected, but will we see DQ Swords (Wii) and DQ Monsters (DS) as well?

Well, it's too soon for Dragon Quest IX, surely...although it HAS been two years in Japan. Hmm...

We have had Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Monsters are already on DS, with Itadaki Street ft Mario & DQ as well.

Could be a remake of an older DQ for the PS2, perhaps, or even DS. Can't wait to find out! Smilie

Being the key words there, I'd say it'll deffo be a PS2 one, or maybe a PS3 one.

I'm quite dissapointed, I would have prefered for the game to be on a home console, with beautiful RPG graphics..

EDIT: I take that back, i've just seen some screens of the game running in realtime, AMAZING

Wow...it makes sense as far as the DSes amazing sales go, but still; something so major being a DS exclusive instead of going to the PS3 or Wii. That's just amazingly awesome! Smilie


Just looked at the screens. The style is just gorgeous, I have never played a Dragon Quest game but I am so excited now. lol

With Square fully behind Nintendo, Sony is finished in Japan.

Square just seem to keep on coming wit the incredible visuals don't they? I never imagined that amount of detail in the town area on DS too...

I can only imagine what Crystal Chronicles on DS could turn out like... from what I've seen already it looks truly amazing, as does this...

So, no spin off like FFXII-RW, this IS the REAL Dragon Quest IX, & it's EXCLUSIVE to DS?

Seems to good to be true, hopefully it won't do a Chain of Memories on us.

EDIT: Seen the video, it looks great, the graphics are really smooth looking, though I'm most impressed by the Wii game DQ Swords, thwe graphics are very impressive IMO, Square Enix don't let down in ANY department for a second. Is there ANYTHING they can't do?

Huge Great games: Check
Jaw dropping FMV: Check

Seems they're good at what they do...

if you look at the screen shots its a new game guys, the name say Dragon Quest IX, not remake of ps one stuff.. it looks perfect, and i can truly say its over for psp and playstation it self
