Nintendo Wii News | First Resident Evil News & Scan

By Adam Riley 14.09.2006 17

The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has details of Capcom's first entry into the Resident Evil world on Nintendo Wii. Under the Japanese name of 'biohazard', the game comes with the subtitle of 'Umbrella Chronicles'. The game will be led by the lead person from the PlayStation 2 port of Resident Evil 4, Kawada Masachika, and is currently being deemed as an 'action game'.

Other than a few scant details on how to use weapons mapped to the unique Wii controls, all we have is this low-detail scan from the magazine to go from [ Click to Enlarge ]:

Stay tuned for the Tokyo Games Show later this month for more details on this title...

Hmm, there was more to see in the footage on Nintendo of Japan. Anyway nice to see it's heading to the Wii.

Nice stuff, looking good! Smilie

An "action" game??? I guess I'll just have to wait and see how good this game is. If it turns out to be a Gun Survivor game due to the absence of Mihkami-san, the I'm gonna swear against this Kawada guy.
Don't buy this game because it's a Wii version of Resident Evil, buy it because it a good immersive survival horror game that does justice to the genre. If you buy it despite the fact that it's crap, ultimately the winners are Capcom because you're making them money when in esscence if it's utter shite you should boycott it thus sending the message to Capcom and any other developers out that Wii owners will not tolerate half-baked third rate games.
We should watch this one very closely to see just how it turns out. the only remake I will tolerate is RE3 or even the PS2 version of RE4 but at a budget price. Capcom better start learning to take Wii seriously if they want us to likewise for them...!!:evil

yes, absolutely. As I said over at the Wii-Games-Footage-Thread(tm), these scenes where surprisingly long in this footage trailer. May be first or third person Remake from Part 1? With the dining hall and all in a Mansion?

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

That most certainly is the dining hall from RE1, same coat of arms above the fireplace; it's looking down the Grandfather-clock side of the table from the initial entrance. I didn't recognise anything else though.

I hope at worst it's some form of trilogy, going through new and unique parts of the series' and filling in some of the gaps. If it's a remake I promise to call Capcom motherfuckers for the duration of my purchasing and playing time with it.

Just because it's Resident Evil, does not mean it has to be survival horror every time. Many games have jumped into other genres with fairly good success. So don't buy this game because it is a good immersive survival horror game that does justice to the genre, buy it because it's a good game with the characters you've come to love.

Been playing through Resi 4 (thanks to Sharpshot!) and am loving it, definately want to look out for new titles (and indeed the older ones) - a mix would be most welcome.

Spydarlee you are only playing through RE4 now it is the greatest game ever, although this looks dull if better have RE4 gameplay.

What is the crack with the REoriginal hall being in it, sort of dissapointed

Hmm... Well from the video it certainly looks pretty good. Hopefully it won't be some half-arsed crap

Somone on Rllmuk posted this, god knows where it's from but I'm sure it's correct (i.e. they're a good poster):

-The game consists of 4 "chapters", RE1's mansion, RE2's RPD, RE3's city areas and RE4's village (plus surrounding areas).
-Each chapter has 2 characters to choose from. RE1 has Jill and Chris, RE2 has Leon and Claire, RE3 has Jill and Carlos and RE4 has Leon and Ada.
-There are several characters that can be unlocked by playing through the game: Rebecca Chambers, Hunk and Albert Wesker.
-The gameplay of all chapters is designed around RE4's. Press the B trigger on the wiimote to go into over-the-shoulder view, aim with the pointer and press A to fire.
-The game will have QTEs, but rather than push buttons you have to make motions with the wiimote in order to get through them.
-All characters will have m

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

Sounds not bad. I'm playing RE4 at the moment since it's the only part I'm able to walk a straight line with my character. Just who did invent character based movement? *did fail completely with RE1 on Cube*

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Nice one Will, sounds ace for sure.

Dunno about Ammo convservation, though - I have a hard enough time playing RE4 without having to resort to running away searching for missed ammo boxes. Smilie

Can hardly see anything interesting.

It sounds very nice, and i'm glad it's not a half-arsed dead aim/survivor sequel
