Nintendo News | Resident Evil Wii Facts and Rumours

By Jorge Ba-oh 02.09.2006 22

The first details from the upcoming Resident Evil (Biohazzard) for Wii have begun to filter in with reports coming in from around the 'net. The game will be a unique entry in the series, closing some of the gaps that have been left open with a return for the ever creepy living dead.

Resident Evil website reH posted an exclusive report on the upcoming title, with voice actor Tara Platt announcing her involvement as the voice of Jill Valentine. She confirmed that zombie-like-creatures will be making a return, along with a wide range of weapons, suggesting that she would be a main character.

In addition Gamespot comments have posted up some unconfirmed information that's supposedly from a games magazine in Hong Kong.

The unconfirmed rumour states:

Biohazard : Umbrella Corp Chronicles and fills in the story on Umbrella before and leading to BH4. Gameplay is a mix between using the Wiimote as a light gun and BH4 style elements e.g. action buttons pressing X for a dramatic scene.

It features scenarios from BH1 (museum), BH2 (police station), BH3 (raccoon city), BHCV and BH4 (village) and ties in the gaps especially BHCV and BH4. Characters include Chris/Claire, Leon/Ada, Jill / Carlos, Rebecca, Hunk and Wesker. There are two gameplay modes - scenario mode and arcade mode. Proper announcement to be made by Capcom at TGS

Stay tuned for updates and to find out whether the Gamespot comments are true or not.

Thanks to C3 reader Ben for the tip.

Hmmm, Jills voice wasn't all that good, RE4 voice acting was a lot better.

Ah, sorry jb. Didn't realise you could submit news Smilie

And the voise acting in RE4 was alright, but Sadler was awful.

Who cares?! (i know i do) as long as the gameplay hits top spot i'm all in.

Silence is the loudest noise we could possibly hear.

The zombies are back? Uh oh. I feel a second rate resident evil coming, its probably going to be an arcade style shooter. Smilie

Dude yuor totally awesome. And i won't be killing you anytime soon.

Jill as the main character not to happy there hoped it would be either Leon, Lius or even Bill Cohen from RE0 but it looks like there if a vast amount of characters should be a good thing, although i wanted the majority of the game to outdoors and not to have zombies, for every step forward CAPCOM make they take two steps back.

zombie-like-creatures
If it didn't have them it wouldn't be a Resident Evil game. The enemies in RE4 were zombie-like. If they were just zombies it wouldn't say zombie-like would it?

TO be 100% honest, this game sounds shit.

The word "lightgun" did that for me.

I like the sound of seeing all of the main characters in one game. It's always interesting to see how characters from different games act with eachother, to see their attitudes with eachother. Looking forward to some solid details, it may pull a blinder like RE4 did! Smilie

Nah, I don't see this being as good as RE4. Capcom will be more involved in RE5, this will be a half arsed side project game in my opinion.

Agreeing with Ben it will probably be a half assed project it could be good if they brought Shinji Mikami back to work on the Wii project.

I'd rather now if they just gave us Re4 with the PS2 extra exclusives with Wii controls.

I am really starting to hate CAPCOM they were my favourite third party pre Wii

Excluding Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica X, no Resident Evil spin off has lived up to the Residen Evil name.

Capcom is not going to treat this game with the care that was given to Resident Evil 4. This will be a game that fulfills their contract obligation. Consequently, when this game does not sell. Capcom will blame the Wii and drop support for it.

Capcom has decided that the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are their platforms of choice.

Furthermore, I think Necro-Nesia will be better than this game, in it's current form.

CAPCOM are going a completely differnet direction this upcoming generation last generation us CUBE owners were given the best of CAPCOM's treatment with the PS2 close behind and the Xbox getting sweet FA but this generation they have stated the 360 is the console they will be supporting heavily due to the PS3 high price point and there sudden distaste towards Nintendo, evident in the high sales of Dead Rising on the 360.

To be honest the lightgun part of the game sounds shit. I'd rather see an re4 style game where you aim the guns with the wiimote or use a knife to slash a zombies neck like resi DS.Smilie

Ah, I like that. Hold in the Nunchuck trigger to bring out your knife, and the Wiimote trigger to bring out your gun Smilie

Well, this is all unconfirmed, and we don't really know anything about it yet.

Still, I do think that we're going to end up with some new Dead Aim game, which would be pretty dissapointing >_> .

I love light gun games, but I'd much rather have a House of the Dead, than play a Resi spin off.

Ashcroft -- ie Jill as main character. It says, "a" main character, not "the" main character.

I'm not sure if of the High Sales. I know Capcom stated that they shipped 500,000 units. however, they did not quote any sales figures in the article.

I kind of wish that Nintendo and Square would work together and develop the Parasite Eve series. Or some other Survival Horror Game. Maybe Nintendo should develop their own Survival Horror game. I know it is unlikely, but they did help Silicon Knights develop Eternal Darkness.

Put it this way:

The first Wii trailer showed someone playing a game that almost certainly was horror.
Almost everything else from the first trailer, matched something from the second except that. (torch/door sound)

Style wise, it could be anything from Resident Evil to Lugias Mansion 2...but either way there is something along those lines gameplay wise.

Actualy, forget Re...lets have a first-person Lugias mansion Wii-ontrolled game O_o
